geforce4 Slow down?

I have a Prolink PixelView GeForce4 MX440-8x 128mb. When I play Individual practice i get about 100 fps with lighting (omegadrivers 
, when i play a dunk contest i get about 60 fps, but the strange part is when i play a 5 on 5 game, the fps goes down to 20 during normal play and up to 45fps during turnovers. what the hell is going on? oh yeah i play with everything on max.
