How do I know who is gonna go for the ally-oop?

Fri Mar 25, 2005 3:38 am

I'm trying to prerfect using the alley oop, by calling either for post up or basket cuts. But I never know which player is gonna try to go up for it- meaning: some times I wait till one guy shakes the defender and has a clear path to the basket, only to see some other guy who is covered like a glove attempt to try and catch the pass.

Doesnt seem to matter when they waive their hands or anything.

Any tips?

If I'm not completely off, I think that it is the player that is closest to the basket that goes for the alley-oop whenever it is called.

You could combine the Off-Ball control with the alley-oop though. That would be the best way to go about it... (y) So just take control over which ever player that you want to throw it down with, and try to get open, and then hit the alley-oop button. The player always goes for the alley-oop, as long as you’re within dunking distance, although it's not that often that he completes it if you play on a high level of difficulty since other defenders tend to help out by disturbing you.

Do you play the PC version? Cause with it I'm not sure how to use off-the-ball control. On the gamecube version it is easier.

I personally wait when a dunker hands up, that's like if he was calling for the ball, sometimes I press the alley-oop button, and sometimes it works... I've almost never missed that.

Yea, I have the PC version. It helps a lot if you have a gamepad though...

Just on the subject of alley oops, i find that Emeka Okafor and Dwight Howard are good to alley oop it to (Y)
