This disgusts me.

Hell, if it lowers gas prices I'm all for it.

first of all, gas prices in the united states are lower then anywhere else in the world, so stop complaining.

second of all, it will not begin to show any effects whatsoever for 10 years, we will be destroying the only truly untouched wildlife area in the world for something that wont even begin to have an effect until 2015.

third of all, we arent even sure how much oil is there, at MOST their is enough to supply the united states for 1 (count em) ONE year.

fourth of all, our problem is oil conservation, not that we dont have enough. SUV's are classified as trucks, which allows them to have ridiculously low MPG and guzzle up the oil our country has. if they were classified as cars (which is the way they are used) then they would have to have a higher MPG. THIS ALONE WOULD MAKE DRILLING IN ALASKA UNNECESSARY cominbined with everything else, it is an absurd idea.

fifth of all, we would be able to trade with oil rich nations (russia, guatemala, iraq, iran etc.) if our exsistance in the middle east was less. OPEC would be more open to trade with us if we didnt have an imperialistic role in the middle east. we dont need to occupy countries and steal their oil to import it, we need to NOT do that! Saudi arabia trades oil with us, but they are not even the most oil rich nation in that area, and they will continue to trade with us no matter what our involvment is. they dont care, they just want their economy to flourish.

this is a ridiculous idea, and the fact that the senate passed it means that our government is at an all-time low as far as brains go.

Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:06 pm

 They aren't going to go in there and murder all the wildlife. The wildlife will still be able to survive with drilling taking place.

Also, I'm taking my license test tomorrow so in 10 years I will have a job and I'll be driving. I don't know about you but I don't want to spend my extra money I get from work on gas I have to use to GET to work. It's a damn shame.

And since when do you care about other countries? Seems to me like everyone "wants to us to worry about our own problems". Well, I think one of our problems is gas prices. Eventually you know we will dig for oil there, it's only a matter of time. I'd rather have it happen in my life time.

Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:07 pm

did you not read a word of what i wrote?

i think you skimmed what i wrote and just assumed what i was arguing. i already shot down the arguments you just made in my last post.

Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:14 pm

:?: :!: :?:

oh my god.

When did you say that it isn't a matter of time before we start digging in the wildlife perserve? You know it is going to happen, and it's happening now. (well...not now but you know what I mean).

Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:23 pm

what are you talking about??? i said there is no reason to drill there, why should we say "well, it may be a terrible and destructive decision, but we're gonna drill there eventually, so why not get this atrocity over with now." yeah, thats a real good plan.

so LIKE I ALREADY SAID, that argument makes no sense. you want to destroy lands in order to have cheaper gas prices in ten years... for one year??

Riot wrote:And since when do you care about other countries?

yeah this statement makes a lot of sense...

im sorry i dont support a occupation of iraq in which between 15,000-100,000 innocent iraqis have been dragged from their homes and killed by american soldiers.

remember im the one who says clinton was a horrible president because he did nothing to stop the slaughter of a million innocent people in rwanda. dont say i dont care about other countries, im much more passionate about oppressed people then i am about rich assholes driving SUV's in this country wanting 20 cents cheaper gas.

Riot wrote:Seems to me like everyone "wants to us to worry about our own problems". Well, I think one of our problems is gas prices.

like i already said

you guys are arguing on every damn thread just calm down and stay on topic.

Yea what we are doing are wrong , those animals have been there and honestly we have no right to drill on their land. Bad Bad Bad america!!

DoobieKnicks wrote:you guys are arguing on every damn thread just calm down and stay on topic.

how are we not on topic in this thread?

and we are having debates, thats one of the main things message boards are for. riot is one of my favorite people on this board, because he voices his opinion and it is radically different then my opinion. i respect his opinion, and i enjoy debating with him.

no bad blood between me and riot if anyone thinks there is

Fri Mar 18, 2005 2:04 pm

sorry then it just seems like you guys have something against eachother . Sorry lol

Fri Mar 18, 2005 3:16 pm

the more you hate= the more you love

you should have known that by now doobie

Fri Mar 18, 2005 3:27 pm

Yeah, me and indy are "Friends". We just have different opinions and they clash  . But it's all in good fun.

Anyways, you are right America's prices are mostly cheaper than any other country but our poverty rate is lower than most countries too...yet people still complain about that. It's a lose/lose situation. And 20 cents a gallon can add up when you drive to work and other places everyday.

Fri Mar 18, 2005 8:51 pm

what's the price of petrol in your country??

mine- New Zealand, about $1.25 per litre.. the most common type of car petrol.. such as Unleaded 91 of BP's..

Sat Mar 19, 2005 6:47 am

In America it's up to around $2.00 a gallon for unleaded but it changes like 3 times a day.

Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:21 am

It's usually around $0.90 CDN per litre. (0.75% USD)

Sat Mar 19, 2005 2:42 pm

our liter here of unleaded stands at about 0.60$ in US currency........i think we get our gas from russia/china and the middle east.........i didn't know Us didn't import gas? i don't even know if they have their own reserves? is alaska a part of US?

the us does import gas. saudi arabia exports gas to the united states and we take oil from the middle east in the countries we occupy.

we do have our own reserves as well, making drilling in alaska even stupider.

alaska is part of the us.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 3:46 am

I think they need it for the new fighter jets, bombers, tanks, and who knows what else?

Sun Mar 20, 2005 3:51 am

Military budget isn't even that high. Sure, we spend a lot of money on the miltary but not enough. Some troops don't even have bullet-proof vests over in Iraq and most of the vechicles aren't even armored.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 4:28 am

Well, we can't have them all, can we now?

Sun Mar 20, 2005 6:36 am

Poverty levels and gas prices have nothing to do with each other. People aren't poor because they waste all their money for gas. If you can't afford gas, you can't afford to keep a car. Take public transit, 'nuff said.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:21 am

When did I say it did? All I said is I work so I can spend some cash to make my life more enjoyable...instead you are forced to use that money to buy gas to get you back and forth from home to work.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:26 am

Isn't life enjoyable enough when you have a car? And to spend all the money on gas without having anything left to enjoy it with implies poor money management ;)

Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:28 am

 Are you serious?

Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:36 am

Of course not :) But hey, there are things in life that people should be grateful for instead of exploiting the earth's resources so they can have more luxury than what they already have. That's the point I was trying to make.
