Anyone having strange heights

Sat Mar 12, 2005 7:33 am

Usually when I look at the draft I complain that the SG are way too small; they are all 6'1'' or 6'3''. I was wondering where the 6'7'' or 6'6'' boys were. But in my last draft everyone must have been taking growth hormones because the top three picks were a 7'2'' PF, 7'0'' SG and a 6'8'' PG (magic's son?). Plus thier first few seasons season they seem to grow, my PG is now 6'11''!

hm... i had a 6'1 shooting guard with crazy hops... but the heights in my dyansty are fairly ok, the centers range from 6-9 to 7-4, fowards 6-5 to 6-11, and guards anywhere from 5-11 to 6-7. its pretty well distributed.
maybe its just a random range for that position.

but a 6'11 pg.. thats just scary, how are his handles and stuff? can he dunk now?

Mon Mar 14, 2005 10:43 am

He was very quick and had good handles, so basically when you played with him it was drive spin move dunk. He couldn't pass and has a low offesive awarness so in simulated games he got 1-4 assists. I traded him for a pg that could actually do his job and pass.

AHAHHA 7'0" shooting guard, it must be a sight to see...
Was he any good??

Mon Mar 14, 2005 11:01 pm

7'0" shooting guard = Dirk Nowitzki
its pretty bad when the 1st overall pick in my dynasty (first year) was a 6'8" center weighing in at about 220
funny thing is that the scouting reports said weak depth :D

Tue Mar 15, 2005 2:57 am

I'm experiencing same as tweak420, but only with too small SGs (most of them in the 6'1"-6'3" range, not much 6'5"-6'7" who are mostly SFs  ). I also find some small centers (6'8"). Rest of positions and heights are OK.

Regards,
Felipe

He was alright, started out around 55 with excellent potential. He was 65 for 3pt which is okay for rookies, but he was as slow as death. He never was more than a 1-5 minutes a game player and I didn't resign after his rookie contract. I don't know how he is doing now.

Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:16 am

I'm currently scouting a 6'8" PG. For the most part the height/weight generation is a lot better than previous years, with a few too many undersized players.

Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:18 am

Yeah.. im gonna draft a 7'0" SF!!! And a 6'8" Chinese PG!!!

i got one of those before. his name was rodrick wolf i think. the rockets picked him but i traded for him the season after. he played like a 7'0 t-mac/kobe

Tue Mar 15, 2005 3:06 pm

funny names? i once saw a rookie in atlanta in my dynasty with the name hasslof hitlem..closely resembling the great swastica man...

Tue Mar 15, 2005 8:43 pm

the 7'0"... i forgot his name. He will pop up in my dynasty though. Just wait and see! (Y)

Tue Mar 15, 2005 8:48 pm

i also had a 7'5" center whose name was bashiri long and a 6'1" pg whose was spiro long. i got rid of that dynasty though. it got really boring after 3 years

Thu Mar 17, 2005 2:20 am

i had a 6-6 center, :( he was horrible

Thu Mar 17, 2005 2:41 am

i think i saw a bunch of malik rose clones with 6'7" pf's in my new dynasty...

i even drafted a guy named larry byrd before i edited it to become my character in my dynasty...you can check it in the dynasty stories section...

!! he's my favourite rookie of all time. That dude kicks so much ass, and usually he's only projected to go #5.

There's usually at least 1 PG in the draft that's around 6'6", and in my Hawks dynasty I managed to find 2 SG's who were 6'6/6'7. I find the best thing to do with the undersized SG's that are projected to go early in the draft is just see them as PG's. Some are more shoot first like Stephon Marbury, others cant shoot so they just have other skills (usually excess speed, stealing etc). If you look down the whole draft list you'll see various 7'5, 320lb C's and whatever... also look for player growth. I had a 7'0" 18 year old PF who's now 7'2. Also in my Hawks dynasty I managed to find 2 7'0" SF's, if anyone has a draft with a guy called Marek Zukauskas in there somewhere make sure you pick him. He's usually projected to go undrafted but he's 7'0 and can dribble + score inside (Y) useful.

one of my drafted players had a name Adolf Hitless. I almost fell of my chair when i saw this.

yeah that's what i'm talking about here. some guy in EA is a swastica man!!!!!

Mon Apr 25, 2005 6:46 am

i seen a 7'4 PF

Mon Apr 25, 2005 7:04 am

Rodrick Wolf is good but he isn't that great. He's a 7'0 SF with around 50 rebounding ability. I have a 6'8 PG Nic Abraham, drafted 28 overall, but he isn't that good and scores very little... he hasn't yet taken advantage of his heigth advantage.

Personally, I find that there's too many talented chinese and korean in each drafts...

Most draft, there isn't many good centers but last draft I did there were 5 of top 10 centers and 2 were tall PFs. That draft sorta place everything back in order... still too many talented 6'1 SGs and not enough talented 6'6 and such.

seems like i can never find a chinese prospect. i always get guys with asian names, only to find out that they are like from new zealend. i just realized earlier today that 6 out of the 9 asians that were drafted this year/signed ou of free agency were from new zealend, and only one was hong kong... wtf? i have yet to see a chinese one, seems like the only way is to edit the rookies
oh yeah, i just started a new season, i got a point guard... J. Tian from... Australia.. damn it. and his handles are like 40, he can't even do a spin move without losing the ball, but his dunking is 67 and he can jump. i also got a 6'9 pf, which is normal, along with 2 other 6'8 sf, so no insane weird heights so far on my team, though i must check the others. and computer generated faces suck, they all either look like ducks or look like 100 year old geezers.

Mon Apr 25, 2005 11:45 am

I haven't seen any players from Australia or New Zealand in the draft yet. I wasn't aware the rookie generation system included that region. I'll have to keep an eye out.

Mon Apr 25, 2005 12:21 pm

jxuusa, you've never been to New Zealand have you?!? 20% of the population is Asian and increasing, and a lot of them seem to play bball, although most of them are pretty short & not that good

but yep, Andrew there is definitely New Zealand players in the Asian region....the region is usually good for one or two NZ players in the draft pool (usually late 2nd Round or undrafted)....haven't seen any Australian players in the Asian region though but I'm guessing they're around....

Tue May 03, 2005 7:40 am

 i started dynasty mode all over again cause my previous one got boring and i did some scouting and there were six 7'0 power forwards, one 7'1 small forward weighing 215 pounds, a 6'6 power forward, and all together 20 people in the draft with a height of 7'0 and higher

Tue May 03, 2005 8:00 am

Yeah, the guards seem shorter than average (at least for top10 prospects), and the 7 footers seem unusually fast. I had a 80+ speed 7 footer...that's faster than most of the guards.

seems like i can never find a chinese prospect. i always get guys with asian names, only to find out that they are like from new zealend.

True. One of my best Asian players Fujita is from Lebanon (boggle).
But look out for Iniko Iwanaka. He's from Beijing, and he's a very good 6'7" SG. (isn't Iwanaka a japanese name tho?).
