O'Neal put up another 40 point effort

The Blazers topped the Hornets on the road for their 4th straight win. Jermaine O'Neal had 42 points and 14 rebounds for his 3rd 40+ point game in his last 4 games. The Hornets threatened the lead a couple times but never took over as Portland dominated the end of the game. Damon Stoudamire had 34 points and broke his season high record of 3PT shots made with 9 shots from the beyond the arc, breaking his previous high of 7. Mighty Mouse played a big part in tonights win. Travis Outlaw had another solid performance with 27 points and 9 rebounds plus 2 blocks. Outlaw saw some time at the Center position while O'Neal dominated the Power Foward spot. The Blazers shot 47% from the field while the Hornets shot 42%.

Jamal Magloire and Jamal Mashburn both led the Hornets with 20 points each. Magaloire grabbed 17 rebounds while Mashburn had 7. The Hornets dropped to 11-13 and the Blazers improved to 11-9 and are now in the 8th playoff spot of the Western Conference. If they playoffs were held now, Portland would face the Dallas Mavericks (14-7) in the first round. Here are some other notable performances from both teams.

Darius Miles: 14 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists
Joel Pryzbilla: 0 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists
Theo Ratliff: 4 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks

Shammond Williams: 13 points, 2 rebounds, 8 assists
Baron Davis: 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
Rodney Rodgers: 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals

Jermaine O'Neal is now in the MVP candidate race. The Blazers are 4-0 with O'Neal and is clearly the MVP of his team. He has Two 40 point games and One 50 point game in this 4 games. Here is the list of MVP candidates as of now:

I said this earlier, but I think you should definitely switch to superstar because the scores are getting outrageous.

Blazers win close one in Boston

Portland 94, Boston 89 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal

49 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks

Boston - Raef LaFrentz - 10 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks
Image

Jermaine O'Neal had another spectacular game as he led his team in scoring again with 49 points. He also grabbed 13 rebounds and had 2 blocks. O'Neal seemed to be the teams only hope as Portland struggled through the whole game. Portland had some big leads at the beginning but Boston always managed to come back. As the first half ended, Portland led 48-47.

Key Players at the Half:

Portand: Jermaine O'Neal - 21 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block

Boston: Al Jefferson - 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals

The Celtics had a good 3rd quarter both offensively and defensively. They led 73-71 at the end of 3. Portland struggled at the beginning of the 4th and they seemed to be frustrated shooting the ball. They were down 83-77 and O'Neal seemed to be their only hope. He made 2 straight field goals to make it 83-81 and pull Portland within 2 with about 4 minutes left. O'Neal then made 3 more to tie it 87-87 with 2:19 left. Portland then took the lead with a Jermaine O'Neal dunk with 1:32 left. Ricky Davis tied it again with a jumper. But yet again Jermaine O'Neal made a dunk to give Portland the lead again. The game then seemed over when Derek Anderson sank a 3 pointer with 17 seconds left to give Portland a 94-89 lead. Boston tried to tie it up but missed several shots and Portland escaped with a win.

After a 34 point performance against New Orleans, Damon Stoudamire was held to just 6 points today. He also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Theo Ratliff and Joel Pryzbilla both had 9 rebounds. Travis Outlaw had a mediocre game with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Paul Pierce led Boston in scoring with 22 and Gary Payton was 2nd with 20 points. Mark Blount led the Celtics in rebounding with 14 and had 6 points also. Ricky Davis had 12 points and 8 rebounds plus 2 steals.

Other notable performances:

Derek Anderson: 3-10, 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
Sebastian Telfair: 1-5, 2 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists

Walter McCarty: 4-6, 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists
Al Jefferson: 3-5, 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals

This was a big upset for Portland against the Eastern Conference leading Celtics. Portlands win dropped Boston to a 16-7 record and Portland improved to 12-9. They are still in the 8th and final playoff spot right now. The Timberwolves, Spurs, Lakers, and Mavericks have already clinched a Western Conference Playoff Spot. Nobody has clinched a playoff spot yet in the Eastern Conference. The top 3 teams are Boston, Indiana and Washington. Portland is now 2nd in the Northwest Division behind Minnesota (16-10).

Image

The Blazers dont play again until April 4th and they play their 4th game of a 6 game road trip against the Kings (14-8).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(I did switch to Superstar and played that game on Superstar. Ill stick to that mode cause it seems more realistic now)

Blazers top Kings in another close game

Portland 114, Sacramento 109 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal
Image
37 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists

Sacramento - Chris Webber
Image
17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 block

Derek Anderson was fouled beyond the arc with about 17 seconds to go with the game tied 107-107. Anderson hit all 3 free throws then Portland got the ball back and Damon Stoudamire was intentionally fouled, and made both. It sealed another win for Portland as they extended their winning streak to 6 games. Jermaine O'Neal not suprisingly had another spectacular game. He led the team in Points (37), Rebounds (14), Assists (5), and Blocks (5).

Damon Stoudamire had 15 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assists. Darius Miles and Derek Anderson both had 14 points. Miles got injured in the 3rd quarter and returned late in the 4th. It was later learned he had a sore wrist but isnt expected to miss any time. Joel Przybilla had 5 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks in another in a mediocre performance. Przybilla was the teams leading rebounder until O'Neal came, but he is still grabbing a decent amount of boards per game with O'Neal in the lineup.

Other notable peformances:

Travis Outlaw: 9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal
Sebastian Telfair: 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
Theo Ratliff: 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block
Gerald Wallace: 2 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists

Mike Bibby: 20 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
Peja Stojakovic: 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals
Greg Ostertag: 2 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks
Bobby Jackson: 18 points, 3 assists, 0 rebounds

The Blazers have now won 6 games in a row and are 6-0 with Jermaine O'Neal. Sacramento drops to 14-12.

Image

The Blazers will play their 5th game of a 6 game road trip as they travel to Oakland, California to take on Jason Richardson and the Golden State Warriors (9-17). Portland is now in the 6th spot in the Western Conference playoffs and look to be making the playoffs, unless of course they lose every game from here on out.

Here are the current candidates for the MVP race:

Kevin Garnett (MIN)
Image - 17.5 PPG, 10.7 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.5 BPG, 1.5 SPG

Golden State dominates Portland for win

Golden State 104, Portland 77 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal
Image
16 points, 17 rebounds, 1 block

Golden State - Troy Murphy
Image
25 points, 22 rebounds, 1 block

Image
Troy Murphy gets a rebound over Theo Ratliff

Even though Golden State is eliminated from the playoffs, that didnt stop them from upsetting one of the hottest teams in the league as of late. Portland got off to a really bad start in this one. They missed their first 6 shots and Golden State was up 9-0 before Portland scored its first point, which was a Derek Anderson dunk off of a Travis Outlaw block. Jermaine O'Neal struggled throughout the game and went 7-22 from the field with 16 points and also grabbed 17 rebounds. The Blazers were down only 28-20 at the end of the first quarter. Derek Anderson sank a 3 pointer for the final shot of the first quarter. Anderson finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds. It only got worse after that, as Portland trailed 18 after the half and never had the lead throughout the whole game.

Image
Derek Fisher is fouled as he goes for a shot

Travis Outlaw had a solid performance off the bench with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Troy Murphy was the leading scorer for the Warriors with 25 points. He also grabbed 22 rebounds and blocked 1 shot. Dale Davis had 14 points and 16 rebounds and Derek Fisher had 13 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Portland shot only 30% from the field and a disappointing .097% from beyond the arc. They obviously need help with their 3 point shooting. Damon Stoudamire has been struggling from downtown and there only other threat is Derek Anderson. Look for Portland to solve this problem during the off-season.

Portland's 6 game winning streak was snapped by Golden State and they are now 6-1 with Jermaine O'Neal. After the game Maurice Cheeks says he was very disappointed in his team, and said he hopes they will not play like this come playoff time. Portlands low Field Goal percantage led to a lot of rebounds by Golden State. The Warriors out-rebounded the Blazers 77-65.

Other notable performances:

Darius Miles: 10 points, 6 rebounds, 0 assists
Joel Przybilla: 8 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks
Theo Ratliff: 2 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks

Calbert Cheaney: 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Speedy Claxton: 0 points, 4 assists, 1 steal
Andris Biedrins: 6 points, 17 rebounds, 2 steals

Image

The Blazers will play their final game of a 6 game road trip against Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves (16-10), who are in the 3rd playoff spot in the Western Conference. This game will be a tough one for Portland as they try and stay in the playoff race.

Jermaine O'Neal of the Portland Trail Blazers is now the leading candidate for the MVP award, follwed by Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.

Cassell, Garnett power T'Wolves over Blazers

Minnesota 119, Portland 105 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal
Image
38 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks

Minnesota - Kevin Garnett
Image
24 points, 16 rebounds, 2 steals

Portland has now lost 2 in a row after winning 6 in a row. They are still in the 7th spot in the Western Conference playoffs right now. Jermaine O'Neals 38 points couldnt help the Blazers get the win over the T'Wolves. O'Neal also had 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. Joel Pryzbilla had another solid game, going 5-8 from the field with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. If he keeps playing this well, he is sure to get resigned by the Blazers for next year. Damon Stoudamire had 17 points and 2 assists and Travis Outlaw also had 17 points, plus 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Darius Miles is still feeling the effects of his injury and hasnt been getting much playing time. He finished the game with 4 points and 4 rebounds in 15 minutes of action.

Image
O'Neal scored 38 points for the Blazers

Sam Cassell led the T'Wolves with 28 points and also had 3 assists and 3 rebounds. The Blazers not-so-hot shooting yet again led to more rebounds for the opponent. Michael Olowokandi had 26 rebounds along with 14 points and 2 blocks. The T'Wolves shot 43% from the field while the Blazers shot only 41%. Garnett had 16 rebounds with 24 points and Latrell Sprewell had 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Other Notable Performers:

Theo Ratliff: 8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block
Derek Anderson: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 0 assists

Fred Hoiberg: 26 points, 2 assists, 2 steals
Eddie Griffin: 0 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Blazers long road trip is done now and they have 5 games left in the season, 4 of them 5 being at home. Portland record is now 13-11 and they are still struggling to stay in the playoff and hopes home-court advantage could help them a little. Here is Portlands remaining schedule:

Image vs. Charlotte on April 16th
Image @ Cleveland on April 21st
Image vs. Seattle on April 23rd

Ok heres the deal, I played Dallas and won 106-104 but when i went back to the main screen nothing saved so all the stats for that game are gone and it didnt save my win. So I just simulated the Dallas game and won 99-75. I dont care about the stats I just wanted the W. :D So heres the stats for the simulated game:

Top Performers:

Derek Anderson: 29 points, 1 rebound, 7 assists
Damon Stoudamire: 24 points, 3 rebounds, 11 asissts
Jermaine O'Neal: 15 points, 6 rebounds 1 block

Dirk Nowitzki: 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists
Michael Finely: 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
Jerry Stackhouse: 12 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists

Portlands record is now 14-11 and they are in the 6th playoff spot in the Western Conference right now. Im going to play the game against Charlotte right now.

Blazers clinch playoff berth with win over Cavs

Portland 122, Cleveland 114 | Top Performers

Portland - Damon Stoudamire
Image
16 points, 3 rebounds, 19 assists

Cleveland - Zydrunas Illgauskas
Image
26 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks

Damon Stoudamire tied his career high dishing out 19 assists in a win over Cleveland that put Portland in the playoffs after missing it last year. Portland shot 54% from the field while Cleveland shot 45%. Jermaine O'Neal had 32 points and 9 rebounds and Darius Miles had 19 points and 7 rebounds. Portland trailed by 1 after the first quarter but had the lead at the end of every quarter after that. Portland passed the ball really well and combined for a total 33 assists, while Cleveland had only 11 as a team. Portland also out-rebounded Cleveland 52-41. Cleveland is eliminated from the playoffs and now have a record of 9-19. Portland improves to 16-11 and have now won 3 straight after dropped their last 2 before that.

Lebron James had 15 points, 2 assists and 4 steals and had a very good defensive game against Portland. Big Z dominated the board all night grabbed 14 rebounds. He was also the Cavs leading scorer with 26. Jeff McInnis had 15 points off the bench and Luke Jackson had 9 points and 2 rebounds off the bench. Drew Gooden saw only 12 minutes of action and scored only 2 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

Travis Outlaw had another solid performance off the bench, scoring 19 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Coach Mo Cheeks said he thought about starting Outlaw at the Center position because of his ability to dominate the board and score points. It might not happen until next year though, Cheeks said. Starting Center Joel Pryzbilla has been very productive this season, but his contract expires this year and the Blazers might not want to resign him. Mo Cheeks said he also might move Jermaine O'Neal to Center next year and make Outlaw the starting Power Foward, seeing as these 2 work well together on the court.

Other Notable Performances:

Derek Anderson: 13 points, 1 assists, 9 rebounds
Joel Pryzbilla: 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks
Sebastian Telfair: 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assists

Aleksandar Pavlovic: 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
Eric Snow: 11 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists
Lee Nailon: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Blazers have 2 games remaining in the season, both at home against Seattle and Chicago. The Blazers have already clinched a playoff spot so they do not have to worry about losing. Devoloping players like Sebastian Telfair might see more playing time the last 2 games. Mo Cheeks has already announced Travis Outlaw will start at PF for the game against Seattle, to get Jermaine O'Neal some rest for the playoffs. The rest of the starters will stay the same, and Sebastian Telfair is expected to see more playing time.

Blazers top struggling Sonics

Portland 109, Seattle 103 | Top Performers

Portland - Travis Outlaw
Image
18 points, 0 asissts, 14 rebounds

Seattle - Robert Swift
Image
18 points, 12 rebounds, 1 block

The Blazers held the Sonics to 14 first quarter points and led 29-14 at the end of one. The Sonics didnt have a very good first quarter, shooting only 25%. The Sonics tried to make comeback and came within 3 at one time but the Blazers still led at the half. Travis Outlaw started at the PF position and already had a double-double at the half, 12 points and 10 rebounds. Outlaw finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jermaine O'Neal had 17 points and 7 rebounds coming off the bench.

Sebastian Telfair split time with Damon Stoudamire at the point. Telfair finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assists. Damon Stoudamire had 13 points and 7 assists. On the Seattle side, Robert Swift showed why he was named West Rookie of the month 3 months in a row. Swift had 18 points, 12 rebounds and a block. Ray Allen led the Sonics in scoring with 20 points and had 5 rebounds. Rashard Lewis had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Seattle (12-16) is 1 of 6 teams eliminated from the playoffs in the Western Conference already.

Other notable performances:

Joel Przybilla: 11 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist
Derek Anderson: 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist
Theo Ratliff: 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists

Vladimir Radmanovic: 8 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals
Nick Collison: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
Luke Ridnour: 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

As of now, the Blazers look to be facing the Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs, as they are in 6th spot and the T'Wolves are in the 3rd. But, with a win against Chicago they could tie Dallas move to the 5th spot and face the San Antonio Spurs. Check back for recaps and playoff information.

The Blazers last game of the season is this Saturday April 30th at home against the Chicago Bulls (8-19), who are also eliminated from playoff contention.

O'Neal leads Blazers to Game 2 victory

Portland 112, Minnesota 105

Top Performers:

Portland
Image
Jermaine O'Neal - 42 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks

Minnesota
Image
Kevin Garnett - 33 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals

Jermaine O'Neal pulled off a 40 point effort to help lead the Blazers to a Game 2 victory over the Timberwolves. Portland didnt have a 1st quarter as bad as Game 1, they led 30-28 after 1, led by Jermaine O'Neal with 12 points. Garnett led the T'Wolves with 10 after the first. Portland scored the first 6 points of the 2nd quarter. The T'Wolves eventually caught up and the Blazers led by 2 again at the half, 60-58. In this game, Portland did a better job defending Minnesota and preventing from hitting a lot of 3 pointers. Portland had a double-digit lead for most of the 3rd quarter and started to let it slip away a little before leading by 10 again with 1:54 left in the 3rd. The T'Wolves came within 4 with about 6 minutes left in the game. Sprewell tied it up 97-97 with 4:27 left. Jermaine O'Neal made a layup that made the score 104-102 and gave Portland the lead with 2:24 left.

After both teams exchanged shots back to back, derek Anderson made a shot with 36.9 left to make the score 108-105 and put the Blazers up by 3. Latrell Sprewell missed a 3 pointer and Derek Anderson got the rebound then passed it to Jermaine O'Neal for a dunk. Then Sam Cassell missed a 3 pointer with 15.4 left so all Minnesota could do now was intentionally foul. Damon Stoudamire hit 2 free throws, then when Portland got the ball back they just ran the clock out and got the win.

KG led the Wolves with 33 points and Wally Szcerzbiak scored 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Michael Olawokandi was 2nd with 10 rebounds and scored 6 points and had 1 block. Jermaine O'Neal led the Blazers in scoring with 42 points and Darius Miles was 2nd with 22 points. Damon Stoudamire dished out 6 assists and scored 7 points. Here are some other notable performances from both teams.

Latrell Sprewell: 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists
Sam Cassell: 14 points, 1 rebound, 6 assists
Eddie Griffin: 10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist

Derek Anderson: 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
Travis Outlaw: 12 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist
Theo Ratliff: 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block

The T'Wolves will travel to the Rose Garden in Portland for the 3rd game of this first round Western Conference playoffs. The main post has been updated with other playoff results.

Blazers lose close Game 3 to T'Wolves

Minnesota 111, Portland 108

Image 1 - 2 Image

Top Performers:

Portland
Image
Jermaine O'Neal - 37 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block

Minnesota
Image
Michael Olowokandi - 10 points, 23 rebounds, 3 blocks

This was a disappointing loss for the Blazers seeing as they were leading most of the game and let the lead slip away at the last minute. The Blazers dominated the first quarter going on a 19-0 run to make it 25-8 with about 3 and a half minutes left in the first. They led 35-22 at the end of the first. Then the Blazers started the 2nd half with a 14-6 scoring run and dominated most of the game. Minnesota hit a 3 pointer to take a 1 point lead in the last minute and after a Portland miss, Michael Olowokandi got his own rebound and dunked it to put the T'Wolves up by 3 with 1.2 seconds left. The Blazers didnt have enough time to get a shot off and lost the game.

Kevin Garnett recorded a double-double with points and 10 rebounds plus 2 blocks. Wally Szczerbiak scored 21 points and Sam Cassell had 15 to lead Minnesota. Jermaine O'Neal led Portland with 37 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Darius Miles was second with 18 points. Damon Stoudamire dished out 8 assists and scored 8 points but none of that was enough to keep the Blazers in the game at the end.

The Blazers are facing elimination in Game 4, so they will have to win this one to stay in the playoffs. Check the main post for updated playoff information from around the league.
