Sixers face Mavs in home opener
November 6th, 2004

The Sixers picked up their first win against the Bucks, and ended a two game losing streak. The Sixers looked like they were starting to get a little chemistry going, and played great ball against the Milwuakee Bucks. But late in the fourth quarter, Michael Redd was injured and all the Philly fans thought the game was over. It wasn't over though, and the Sixers let the Redd-less Bucks go on a 6-0 run, but they found a way to finish the game.

Coming up, the Sixers will be going up against the best team they've played all season, the Dallas Mavericks. Steve Nash signed with the Suns in the offseason, and now alot of the scoring load has been placed on Dirk Nowitzki, the franchise player for Dallas. The Mavericks also aquired Jerry Stackhouse, Jason Terry and Erick Dampier in the offseason, which makes them as dangerous as ever on the offensive end, and better on the defensive end.

It will be very hard for the Sixers to win this game in front of the home crowd, but you better believe they'll play to the end. Although they aquired some defensive players, Dallas is still nowhere as good as a San Antoinio or Detroit. So look for this to be a high scoring game, and look for Dirk and Chris Webber to battle it out like they did back when Webber played for the Kings.

After a Darrell Armstrong three pointer, Iverson got the ball to Kyle Korver who hit a pretty three pointer to cut the lead to three. We now saw Pargo and Iverson in the backcourt together for the first time all season, Pargo ran in and got a layup from a Iverson pass to cut the lead to one. A three point play by Pargo tied the game up at 66-66, Pargo now lead the Sixers in scoring with 16 points. Sixers come off break to face Pacers
November 17th, 2004

The Philadelphia 76ers haven't played in 11 days and will host the Indiana Pacers tonight at the Wachovia Center. The Sixers have been struggling, and team chemistry hasn't looked good at this point. The Sixers and the Pacers are completely opposite at this point, the Sixers are 1-3 and the Pacers are 3-1. Allen Iverson has started off the season good averaging 26.2 points, 4.2 assists, 7.7 steals but Chris Webber isn't looking too good.

Image

In four games this season, Webber is only averaging 13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and a suprising 0.5 assist per game. Many are wondering if Webber and Iverson will ever mesh together, if they don't start soon it might be too late. One good thing for the Sixers is the trade for Jannero Pargo, which is looking like a complete steal as of now. Jannero Pargo is averaging 17 points off the bench and has kept the Sixers in alot of the games they've lost.

The Sixers were destroyed in their last game by Michael Finley, who finished with a game high 35 points. If they thought Finley dropped shots in their grill, wait til they get on the court with Reggie Miller. Reggie Miller is averaging 20/4/4 and is leading the Pacers in scoring, he could cause the Sixers alot of problems. This will be another tough matchup for the Sixers, and could be a must win if they want to take the Atlantic Division.

Sixers win OT Thriller
November 17th, 2004

The Sixers made their way to midcourt determined to pull out a win, Samuel Dalembert got the tipoff and smacked it back to Allen Iverson who started the game out for the Sixers. Webber made his way to the line but he only hit one of two, cutting the Pacer lead to only nine. Jannero Pargo ran in and hit the circus shot buy the Sixers still trailed and it would take a determined effort for them to catch up. Allen Iverson and Reggie Miller hit the floor going for the loose ball, the quicker Iverson got it and layed it up cutting the lead to seven. Allen Iverson threw up two aleey oops in a row, the first to Chris Webber and the second to Samuel Dalembert. Reggie Miller fouled Iverson and now the lead was cut to three points after two Iverson freethrows, this was the Sixers chance to take the lead. Chris Webber and Kyle Korver missed shots and Stephen Jackson dunked on the Sixers giving the Pacers a five point lead, defense still wasn't going for the Sixers up till this point.

End of Third Quarter
Pacers (3-1) - 60
Sixers (1-3) - 55

Allen Iverson opened the fourth quarter up with a fastbreak layup and cut the lead to three points, he now had a game high 18 points. Jermaine O'Neal faked Chris Webber and slammed it down with one hand, the lead was now back up to five. Willie Green checked in and did a nice spin move, finished with a layup. Our young guys Iguodala and Korver went on the run at the end of the fourth quarter to get us back in it, gotta give them props. We all kinda tired now but it feels good to get back to winning, and we gonna work real hard to win the next one."

Grizzlies visit Philadelphia
November 19th, 2004

The Philadelphia 76ers picked up an impressive victory over the Indiana Pacers in a great overtime game. "They got me the ball, and I knew I had to hit it", said Kyle Korver on his last second shot to send the game to OT. The Sixers are now 2-3 and are looking to beat the Memphis Grizzlies and get to .500 for the first time this season. Chris Webber had his best scoring night as a Sixer dropping 22 points on the Pacers, he also tied his season high with 15 rebounds.

Image

"They've got a really deep bench, and our guys are gonna have to play all night to put them down", said Jim O'Brien. The Memphis Grizzlies head to the Wachovia Center with a 3-1 record, and they also have one of the most talented benches in the NBA. The Sixers depth will be tested in this game when they go up against Hubie Brown's 10 man rotation. Chris Webber is looking to take advantage of Pau Gasol's soft play, and Allen Iverson is looking to take advantage of Jason Williams occasional lack of defense.

The Sixers looked like a new team this past game, and they hope to continue to play good together. This is the third game in a row that the Sixers have played at home, and if they win this they'll be 2-1 at home this season. Tipoff is at 7:00pm on CSN, so all you Sixer fans make sure you root for your team!

Philly drops close one
November 19th, 2004

The Sixers got their third straight tipoff, Allen Iverson now slowly dribbled the ball up the court. Chris Webber missed the first Sixer shot of the game, leading to a Shane Battier three pointer. Allen Iverson then drew the defense and passed to a wide open Kyle Korver who dropped the three pointer as the Sixer fans cheered. Jason Williams hit a jumper, and on the next Sixers possesion, Chris Webber completed a three point play. Samuel Dalembert got the board off a Chris Webber missed and slammed it home with two hands, this gave the Sixers a one point lead with 4:01 left in the first quarter. Webber then came back down and hit a jumper over Pau Gasol to give the Sixers a three point lead, at this point he had a team high 5 points. After a Jason Williams miss, Andre Iguodala got the ball to Chris Webber who got a layup and now had 7 points. This was the second game in a row that Webber started off the game with offensive intensity. After a crazy Jason Williams shot, Samuel Dalembert got the bounce pass to Chris Webber who dunked it with one hand. Webber then hit two more baskets in a row and had 13 points with 1:52 left, he was abusing the Grizzlies front court like he had abused no front court this season. Pau Gasol seemed tired of it, and he came down and dunked the ball with aggression. Pargo checked in, and as usual, he hit a three pointer off a Sixers pick.

End of First Quarter
Grizzlies (3-1) - 22
Sixers (2-3) - 27

The Sixers had their most impressive first quarter of the season, and the second unit was looking to build on it. Willie Green hit a three pointer off a pick and the Sixers were now up by six points, they looked very good on the offensive end. The Sixers still looked kinda bad on defense, and allowed Brian Cardinal to hit a wide open three to cut the Sixer lead to only 3. The Grizzlies had a one point lead when Earl Watson fouled Pargo when he was going up for a three pointer, Pargo went to the line and hit two out of the three. Iverson dished the ball to Marc Jackson who posted up on Stromile Swift and slammed it home with two hands, the Sixers were up by one point. Brian Cardinal then came back and hit a three pointer from way beyond the arc to put the Grizzlies back up by two points. Matt Barnes dished to Allen Iverson who outran the defensive and slammed it home to tie the game at 42-42 with 3:20 left. Kyle Korver was left wideopen and hit a three pointer with 54.0 left to give Philadelphia a one point lead. Chris Webber got the ball from Iverson off a pick and nailed a jumper before the buzzer to score his 17th point of the game.

Pau Gasol (MEM) - 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks

Halftime
Grizzlies (3-1) - 49
Sixers (2-3) - 51

The Sixers started the second half off by getting the ball to Chris Webber, who hit a 15 footer. It seemed like Allen Iverson was passing first and shooting second this game, which he hadn't all season. Chris Webber then came back down and hit a fadeaway jumper over Pau Gasol to give the Sixers a four point lead, Chris Webber got his biggest applaud from the audience yet. On the next Sixers possesion, Chris Webber drew the defense and got the ball out to Kyle Korver who hit a three pointer. Off a Grizzlies turnover, Chris Webber actually ran the ball up the court and dunked on Grizzlies guard Jason Williams. The Grizzlies were now up by seven points with 5:51 left in the third quarter, they were looking impressive. Jannero Pargo came in for Allen Iverson and got the ball to Michael Bradley who dunked it on a fastbreak. The Sixers played great ball so far but would have to finish strong, Chris Webber had a season and game high 30 points at this point.

Image

End of Third Quarter
Grizzlies (3-1) - 68
Sixers (2-3) - 72

Michael Bradley tipped the ball in off a Willie Green miss and the Sixers now went up by six. Bonzi Wells came down with the one hand jam to cut the lead to only four, the Sixers needed to step up on defense. Stromile Swift dunked it hard with two hands to tie the game, and on the other end Samuel Dalembert dunked it with two hands to take the lead back. Two Allen Iverson free throws put the Sixers up by six with 3:44 left in the 4th quarter, just before that AI had thrown a alley to Samuel Dalembert which got the crowd on their feet. Mike Miller then came down and hit a three pointer with Chris Webber's hand right in his face, that cut the lead to only one. Shane Battier hit a three pointer over Kyle Korver with 1:25 to put the Grizzlies up by two, the Grizzlies seem to be ready to take over the game at the end. The Sixers were down by 3 once again with 10.9 left in the game, could the Sixers do it for a second game in a row? Kyle Korver once again got the ball but the shot went in and out, the Sixers lose a close one at hand.
