Nick Van Exel retiring?

Tue Mar 08, 2005 2:35 am

The Portland Trail Blazers guard said he could retire after this season because of knees that have been "bone on bone" since his second NBA season. But if a winning opportunity presented itself, Van Exel might put up with the pain and keep playing. Van Exel and the struggling Blazers (22-35) play the Nuggets (30-29) tonight at the Pepsi Center.

"I've been thinking of (retiring), especially through the tough times with my knee injury from last season," Van Exel said in a recent telephone interview. "I was tired of feeling the way I felt. Losing takes a toll on me."

Yeah, he had a solid career. He had a nice run with the Lakers, but I remember he struggled a lot during the playoffs one season, but the guy helped his teams. Off topic, he had a funny looking young face, until he got that goatee.
