I'm doing a reserach paper on "Should steroids be banned from sports?" I'm against the argument and I would like to see if anyone can give me any ideas on why it should be banned because I need pretty much need 6 things to argue about in my sources. right now i have:
A. Causes health issues
B. Star athletes not really stars
C. Ethics issue (unfair to athletes that don't use them)
D. Tarnishing the sport
Anybody got any other ideas to help me out?

It's unfair to the older players (I'm assuming this is about baseball, so guys like Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron) who didn't have steriods and were still legendary home run hitters.

that was one of my choices

(your topic) i was going to choose that one, but i thought steroids would be easy since its so common now.

I cant help you out with a) seeing I've never used them, however it is obvious that "stars" that take steroids are not stars, there is a legitimate doubt over there abilities. Look at the olympics, as soon as they find somone on roids, they are banned. No if's, no buts. They are gone. It doesnt matter how big or small they are, and thats the way it should be.
Ethics are different to everyone, but people who take steroids have no agenda's apart from their personal one. I know proffesional sports is a business, but in the long run they are cheating themselves and they have to live with the fact they are taking something pure and corrupting it.
I touched on tarnishing the sport earlier, but its so obvious. Can anyone genuinely look at baseball the same after Jason Giambi and Jose Conseco's admissions? The fact that Giambi is still a yankee and pete rose isnt in the hall of fame is a major contradiction, and shows how far up the problem goes with baseball. They knew about steroids well before the BALCO testimonies... america's favourite pastime has turned into a bodybuilding show, and everyone involved with MLB is at fault. The worst part about it is nothing has been done, and that is why im not a fan anymore. You look at the nfl, they took a stance with ricky williams and suspended him for the season for his repeated drug offenses. The NBA took a tough stance with Ron Artest. And then you look at MLB, they do nothing... When Sammy Sosa had a cork in his bat he was suspended, but yet when jason giambi admitted to cheating in a much worse way, he gets off scott free.
I wish MLB was gone instead of hockey, and i hardly care for the nhl. Im just glad i turned my back on major league baseball.

hm, wait a miniute.... arent steroids already banned from sports?

Jason Giambi admitted to a grand jury that he took steroids, and he has recieved no punishment. So you tell me if steroids are banned in baseball or not.

you know some of my friends think Vince Carter was on steriods back when he was doing them sick dunks. But really baseball is fucked forever with the whole steriod stuff.
It makes the competition unfair to those that get there strength naturally.

you know some of my friends think Vince Carter was on steriods back when he was doing them sick dunks
he was just sick.......
yep steriods is unfair....a couple of me boys back then at our soccer team in highschool inject steriods at their thighs and knees. they never seem to get tired at our games and hell yeah can they kick the ball that high. almost match the goalkeepers kick.
Mon Feb 21, 2005 2:08 pm
I FUCKING HATE STEROIDS, THEY ARE PIECES OF TURDS THAT PLAYERS EAT.
GOD DAMNIT.
I'm getting sick of this topic, it's driving me into a wall. Anti-Canseco.

you're just jealous because your not getting any gay men...what's the point of typing gay in capital letters anyway?
Mon Feb 21, 2005 6:57 pm
umm theirs nothing wrong with steroids......its not like some evil drug.....but its wrong to use it to try and enhance your performance on the field.....
Steroids is hardly used these days........their are different drugs which are used like -spellcheck- nandrolone.

Yeah, this is a good point to use in your arguments. How it messes up all the records and stuff if dudes now use steroids, how can older athletes possibly have a chance of keeping their records.
Although it brings up another point, there's all the new technologies today as well, better bats and stuff... how can they expect to keep their records anyways?
good luck with your essay.

Records are made to be broken

Eventually, all will be broken.
Wed Feb 23, 2005 6:41 am
I know. Just shouldn't be because of cheating
Wed Feb 23, 2005 7:22 am
We agree in that point, but you said "there's all the new technologies today as well, better bats and stuff" and I don't think that's cheating
Wed Feb 23, 2005 7:36 am
Yeah I suppose you're right. It's not really cheating, persay. But I mean, give Gretsky one of them their super-duty hockey sticks of today, and maybe he woulda scored even MORE. Ya know?
Either way, it's a point that sbhzmafia can maybe use in his essay
Wed Feb 23, 2005 11:31 am
I get what oçyou're saying. We could only imagine what could've been of players like Wilt or Walton with today's medicine.
