Help with franchise mode!!

Tue Feb 04, 2003 9:29 pm

I cant start a new franchise with my new rosters. I created a roster with the spanish league based on nba rosters. I mean, Barcelona is NY... When i want to start a new franchise, i pick only the 18 teams in spanish league and i start. But when i reach the third or fourth day, the game crashes with this message:
CODEBASE ERROR
Error #: -70
Error #: 91102
Reading file
dfile4...()
c:\Programs File\EA SPORTS\NBA LIVE 2001\DB\WOPRKDB\teams.dbf

Did you edit the dbf file using MS Excel? That error occurs when you are using a corrupted dbf file. It's not safe to use Excel to edit the dbf files, as it often causes problems when saving the changes. Use the Toolkit or DB Commander.

the toolkit doens recon the teams.dbf file (maybe because its corrupted). where can i get a new teams.dbf file. could someone send it to mogutusese@hotmail.com.
thx

I replaced teams.dbf with the file in the CD, but now another error appears:
CODEBASE ERROR
Error #: -460
Error #: 90901
Sub-Expression Type is Wrong
e4massage
WEEKLYMVP / WEEKGAMES

I press OK, and then another more appears:

CODEBASE ERROR
Error #: -935
Error #: 90916
Null Input Parameter unexpected
expr4vary
WEEKLYMVP / WEEKGAMES

This error occurs when i simulate the first sunday (when the weekly mvp awards are given). Anyone knows why this happens?

There's likely a problem with both players.dbf and teams.dbf. If you copy the original files from the CD, make sure the copies are not read-only. Files copied from CDs are always read-only until you change them. After you copy the files, right-click them and uncheck the read-only box.

None of my teams.dbf or players.dbf is read-only. I've viewed those in saves folders, the one in workdb, curdb, origdb... I dont know what is wrong.

You might have to start your season again with a fresh dbf file. If you edit the new dbf files, make sure you use DB Commander or the Toolkit.

Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:17 pm

No, i've started lots of seasons and franchises and it always crashes. Since i changed the teams.dbf file, i've started 4 new seasons with the same results. i'm really annoyed

Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:43 pm

All I can suggest now would be to back up your saved files, delete them, then reinstall the game, and start over.

Fri Feb 07, 2003 9:49 pm

i suppose that is the solution, but i didnt want to accept it

Fri Feb 07, 2003 11:09 pm

i'm going to kill myself  after reinstalling the whole game, i run my roster with spanish league and it crashes again. there must be something wrong with the rosters. the error is again in teams.dbf file, but it's the one from the CD, so...

Sat Feb 08, 2003 11:22 am

You're certain that when you copied the file from the CD, you unchecked the read-only attribute? The problem could still be with the players.dbf file (most crashes are, as it's usually the most heavily modified dbf file).

Sat Feb 08, 2003 8:43 pm

could i send you my players.dbf file, and see if it works on your computer?

Sat Feb 08, 2003 9:30 pm

Well, before you do that, is this a patch you have downloaded or one you have created yourself?

Sat Feb 08, 2003 10:10 pm

i downloaded it, and then i created some new players, and changed the rating of others. I'm thinking that i tweaked the ratings with a macro in Excel, and maybe that's the reason. i'll try with the non-tweaked one, if it doesnt work, i'll send it to you, right?

Sat Feb 08, 2003 10:53 pm

no, the non-tweaked rosters doesnt work. it shows the teams.dbf error, and it's not read-only.

Sun Feb 09, 2003 10:58 am

You mentioned you edited the ratings with Excel. More often than not, Excel corrupts dbf files, due to incorrectly saving the changes. There's your problem, corrupted players.dbf.

Sun Feb 09, 2003 10:08 pm

recap:
with the tweaked rosters (with excel) of the spanish league the game crashes
with the non-tweaked rosters or the sapnish league (never edited with excel) the game also crashes
with nlsc rosters, the game does not crashes.
WTF is happening here?

Mon Feb 10, 2003 11:06 am

There could be some other problem with players.dbf then, missing values, etc. When you say the non-tweaked version, are you referring to the original version, or one that you have modified but not applied tweaks to?

Mon Feb 10, 2003 10:19 pm

the non-tweaked version is the original one, but with some missing players that i added in the game, but i haven't edited the players.dbf of this roster

Tue Feb 11, 2003 9:46 am

Have you contacted the author of the patch? There could simply be a problem with the original dbf, possibly some missing/invalid values.

Sat Feb 15, 2003 6:35 am

i think that the error happens when i start a franchise and i dont select all teams. as spanish league only has 18 teams, there are 11 teams which are not chosen. could that be the reason?

Sat Feb 15, 2003 10:24 am

That shouldn't be a problem, Franchise mode can be played with only 16 teams. The game will tell you that it needs at least 16 teams in Franchise Mode if you try to start the franchise with fewer than 16 teams. I think the problem does lie in the dbf files, possibly some missing or invalid values for some players.

Sat Feb 15, 2003 8:52 pm

The roster has 18 teams filled with the spanish teams, and the other 11 teams filled with nba players like Allen or Duncan but with their ratings lowed to 50. When i play a franchise with all the teams, including the NBA teams, the game doesnt crashes. It's only when i pick the 18 spanish teams that the game crashes in the first 3-4 days of franchise

Sun Feb 16, 2003 10:26 am

That's strange. If there's a DBF error, it should occur no matter how many teams you choose. Have you been in touch with the author of the patch yet? They might be able to shed some light on the situation.
