When you are that age you do not handle concepts like "gay" or "sexuality", but a boy may feel atraction towards an individual of his own sex, and when he is older he may realize his reality.

My girlfriend took a gender and sexuality course, and she had to read a bunch of books, and it's not that people are born that way, but rather they are conditioned at an early age. For example, if you were a female and you acted like a tomboy when you were a kid - this does play a role in your future growth. Now, that tomboy experience could phase out, or play a direct role into attraction of the same sex. Gender is defined as male or female, but as human beings, both genders can be physically or emotionally attracted to the same or opposite sex. It depends on how they are conditioned psychologically. Even emotional trauma with the opposite sex could veer them toward homosexuality where mutual feelings make the relationship content.

This can work either way: Being born gay, or being conditioned to be gay at an early age, even if they do not realize it is happening.

Like Amphatoast said, "It's how you grow up and the environment you're in." That's what I mean by being conditioned gay.

I looked at the studies that point to "being born gay," but there's equally compelling evidence that childhood factors, as well as influence, affect sexual orientation. I know that there's two sides in the argument with this, and it's probably pointless to throw barbs whether one is gay through birth, or through conditioning. What matters though, is that gays are human beings, and deserve respect despite how society and religion look down upon the "immoral" practice.

Edit: In the two articles that Riot proposed, both state that their position is that being gay is hard-wired in the brain, instead of a choice. The argument I'm making is that, there was no choice to begin with, because how they are raised in childhood affects their sexuality. There was no mention of that in either one.

I've known a fair few gay people (my best friends brother is a very social gay person, thus knowing lots of homo's) I've got no problem with the large majority of them. In fact, they're extremely nice people and I liked talking to some of them. Not all of them are like this, in fact there are alot of them that are complete dickheads. I've got no probs with gay people, or people who hate gay people. The only people I have a problem with are the ones who attack gay people just because they are gay. I mean you're welcome to disagree with the way they live, but is that justification for actually physically harming someone?

as for gay guys....as long as they don't hit on me (it's happened a couple of times now) then I'm fine with them....I actually had a mate in NZ who I didn't know was gay until one day a mate was talking about it....he was just a normal bloke and you wouldn't know it unless you were looking for it, and besides he never hit on me or any other mates so I got no problem with him....

as for lesbians, I know a couple of them....one of them is a lesbian and no bi I'm pretty sure but wouldn't mind it if you know what I mean, the old menage or toire (sp?)....
