Pants falling down? Virginia bill would set fine at $50
By the Associated Press
Published February 8, 2005
RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.
The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a "lewd or indecent manner."
Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.
During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.
"This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many," Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.
The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.
Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black.
The better not pass that law. That's horseshit. It seems the government and all high people hate fashion and trends these days. They always have to do something to stop it. Fining $50 is bull. I say if they don't want to see it, they don't need to look.

I agree with this law. The worst sight in the world is fat chicks with hipsters, damn slurries.
Kudos to virginia
Now if they could ban pink shirts...

Typical of some people in the US.
They get offended by some banal fashion while at the same time claiming how liberal and progressive they are.
This reminds me of the Janet Jackson SB incident. They have the most high-minded and flexible shows and all of a sudden the whole country gets upset because of one BOOB????
I mean, come on.
THAT is overreacting.

Hmm, well, if this bill gets passed, they have a lot of explaining to do for the Calvin Klien underwear ads.
Fri Feb 11, 2005 12:37 pm
Haha that sucks they shoudn't pass it, even though I can't stand watching the wiggers in my school pull their pants farther DOWN. But whatever, it's their choice.
Fri Feb 11, 2005 12:44 pm
its suppose to be a free country................
Fri Feb 11, 2005 1:02 pm
this should go down in history as 'the wigger bill'.

Exactly.
If a guy wants to have pink and blue hair, or another guy wants his pants in his pubic area, as long as he doesn't show anything offensive, people shouldn't mess with a person's appearance.

my dad was tellin' me about this law and that they might make it in memphis along with other states. it's not that much of a problem for me because i wear my pants low, but not low like rappers and stuff wear. i wear mine at a reasonable place and its still above my ass.

I let my pants sag a little bit, but not to the point where it's distasteful. I mean, why would you want to follow a custom that started in prision as a way to signify that "you were taken"?
Fri Feb 11, 2005 2:02 pm
I agree with the law aswell. Oh no, all of these little gang$ta's wont be able to wear their pants unnecessarily and inexplicably low
Why do people even do it? Newsflash, it looks fucking stupid. No it isn't cool. No there is no reason for it. Unless you've been doing Buns Of Steel non stop for the past 3 years and want to show off the results
you have no reason for wearing your pants that low.
Fri Feb 11, 2005 2:47 pm
hehe, this law is kinda cool. So many of this biatches do that here in the big apple but they wear long shirts to cover it up.
Personally, I HATE seeing people like that..I don't understand what's so cool about having your pants pockets by your knees...to me for the most part it kinda seperates the educated from the uneducated for the most part..not too many smart people wear like their clothes like this.
and girls, some get offended when you see there thong or whatever yet they wearing pants that allow you to see it

Interesting fact, Sir Skins.
You learn something new everyday.

I sometimes wear my pants a little down, but not to the point that my pockets are in my knees. I fell a lot more comfortable wearing some of my shorts and pants that way. Maybe because most of my shrots are like Stockton's shorts. It's not about being cool or not. At least not for me.
And I'm not gang$ta. And I wasn't taken, either

This is the third time this week!
Anyway, I'm surprised nobody made a crack (no pun intended) about pants being low looking like they shit themselves. I gotta agree with CambyMan, Jae, Amphatoast and whoever I've missed about jeans being too unnecessarily low. Sure, it's a fashion statement, but what are they trying to prove other than they look ridiculous walking around in the wrong size jeans? Save it for the big boys.

I wear shorts and sweatpants maybe and inch or two below my waistline. But jeans don't work for that, too much material that doesn't let me sit flat.
I like how people with pants that low have to waddle.

keep the jeans. dont wash it for a week. then it will surely feel like silk. to avoid beeing seen wearing the same shit all over again. wear it every other 2 days . people will forgot what you wear couple of days ago unless somebody has a major crush on you and observe your everymove

dude... once upon a time.. i used to lowride! lol
Sat Feb 12, 2005 12:15 pm
Lol, yeah the low pants fasion started out in prison which basicly means that you want to get it from the backdoor. I dont have a problem with people wearing it like that, its their own choice even though I think it looks pathetic. So my opinion would be that this law his kinda dumb, let people wear what they want.
Sat Feb 12, 2005 12:18 pm
for some reason.. when ur in grade 8 or 9... ppl think its 'cool' to do so. But its ridiculous... i dont wanna see guy's asses every day!

Ahhh, the cordiality and open arms with which our friend Sir Riot receives an innocent misconception.
