Rules are rules... Ofcourse I see the financial downside to it too... If you got players worth 60 million and the people could care less about your basket ball playing team... It would lead quickly into financial doom, but with a star or two the team might create more buzz and get more people excited about the club and thus more attendance/income...
Higher salary cap would probably be a bad idea, but limiting the salary cap isn't such a great idea either... But I guess they have their reasons.
