Advice please - preventing opposing offensive rebounds

I chase the ball. I hit box out button. I've set user defensive rebounding to 100 and CPU offensive rebounding to 0. My fantasy team starts Duncan, Marion and Brand. And yet I still get crushed on the offensive boards (tonight against Portland it was 25 offensive rebounds given up in a 94-74 loss, All-Star, 12 minute quarters).

Since my defense (strict man-to-man) is pretty good, it's frustrating to get the stop, only to give up the second chance basket. I'd happily give up all my fast break chances just to get all 5 of my guys going to the boards.

I'm not willing (yet) to blame the game. So any suggestions anyone has for improving my technique would be appreciated.

When I see the shot go up, I just control one of my big men and go after the rebound myself
I never block-out and I have no problems
Just practice on your timing and just go up for it

one tip

dont rely on rebounds
just get your team to score onn every posssession
dats the objective of the game isnt it?
dats the way i coach if my midget team gets outrebounded
and i always win by hitting 50+% of our possesion

but a wiseman once say

REBOUNDS control the game

and another wiseman counter say

SCORING BASKETS is the game

and i say

WINNING is better than losing

actually depends on your style as long as you enjoy the game
in freethrow i let the cpu control my rebounding players while i use the off guard
after the shot i go in the lane and cover/boxout the freethrowshooter since he cant move till the ball hits the rim while your guard can after he release the shot. wonder if you guys have this tactic. i am a shooting guard in real life and thats the way i play and coach

I tried out a couple of zone defenses and didn't get very far. I'll assume it was bad execution of good advice.

Then I went back to man-to-man and I tried controlling my center on defense. It took me a while to get the hang of it. I played at Portland again and won 92-82. This time, I actually gave up more offensive rebounds - 30 - but only 8 in the second half as I got more comfortable with the new style.

I think the biggest improvement in the second half was I started watching carefully to keep my center in the lane more often. In the first half I was so worried about getting called for 5 seconds in the lane that I wouldn't stand my ground there.

In the second half I concentrated on staying in the lane more, especially when it meant my center was double teaming the ball or cutting off a penetration. That seemed to improve my overall positioning.

I also found that controlling the center led to more double team steals and more blocked shots from raising my arms.

Thanks for the advice so far. Keep those suggestions coming.

Well, one of them closest to the basket... and the best rebounder of one of them two, but I usually play vs pc, so vs human it's lower yeah

Since my last post, I've been working on my ball chasing technique. Now that I've got it down, I'm having even more success preventing offensive rebounds.

After each shot, I'm making a conscious effort to move my defender straight towards the basket. Nothing fancy, just a straight line. But digging in for the ball, every time. Sort of like the dump and dig in hockey.

I'm starting to think I was making the mistake of watching the shot after it was released. What I have to do is ignore the shot, and go get the rock. Easy to describe, hard (at least for me) to do.

One thing you have to remember is TIME YOUR JUMPS! I have the same problem too, and I see many people do it, when the ball hits the rim some people like to jump up immediately, and what happens is they land (or almost land) by the time the ball becomes within grabbing range! MAKE SURE you time the jump, don't instantly hit rebound when it hits the rim. It also helps to use a tall guy/high jumper, unless they get bumped out of the way (with no call... :shake:

When you see a shot go up....do what u have to do to get yo punk @ss in the paint.

If the shot is rebounded by the O, you can often block the put back.

Use a big body to grab boards, since this game has no physics whatsoever, guards will just move out of the way in mid air even when you are in perfect position to grab the board, and the CPU bigman will just snatch it. The rebounding system is very unrealistic to say the least.

actually I find there's a bit of a bug in the game that let's you grab virtually every offensive rebounds off a missed free throw... you intentionally miss the shot badly, and if you time it right you can grab the offensive board almost every time if you have a good rebounder, whatever the difficulty/slider settings...

i use a 1-3-1 defence, go for the block with my centre then get my pf to come in from the right to grab the boards. works well once you get it going

what I do is I control virtually almost everyone if I'm on defense. What I mean is that if the PG of the opposing team has the ball, Ill control my PG also to defend him, if he passes off to another man then I switch to that man and etc etc. If the guy shoots, Ill most likely try to block it or at least bother him enough and with that, my CPU guy will almost instantly box out his guy, with that delay of me having to block the shot, all I have to do is switch to one of the guys down low and the boxing out has already been done for me.

I have the raptors so I have both donyell marshall and chris bosh avg'ing me close to 15 more or less boards per game, and chris bosh gets me close to 8 offensive rebounds a game
