The Video Card Thread

Postby Stevan on Sun Nov 14, 2004 11:22 am

Do you guys who run the game without any problems wanna tell us what card you're running? (Maybe we can sticky this to eliminate all the other video card threads)

Anybody managing to run the game with just an onboard graphics card?
I do the above with nice black courts! I don't want to spend money on this crap, but I might be forced to buy a cheap ass card just to get the courts to show up

Right now im running a radeon x800 pro, which is pretty expensive. But before that one i was running a 9500 pro very successfully. And before i got my new vid card I was runnning the game with onboard graphics on the lowest detail settings.

I have just the old GeForce 2 card (Actually- I have the intel extreme card, but it wasn't compatible with the sims 2 so i took it out and replaced it with the old geforce 2)-- and i have no complaints about the way it looks. so if you want it to look pretty damn good, you don't have to spend alot- you can get a geforce 2 for like 40 bucks now

I know it doesn't look as good as the expensive video cards are (and you can't turn "lighting" on, but I don't like the way that looks anyway, they look like electric cardboard cutouts with lighting on)- but if you don't want to spend much money, I don't see what's wrong with those screens. (Y)

note that i do have a very good system other than the geforce 2, i don't know if any of that would contribute to the video quality (2.6ghz processor, 512mb ram, 80gig HD)

I just ordered a club 3d radeon 9600xt with the following specifications:

Chip Radeon 9600 XT
Engine Clock 500 MHz
Pixel-Pipelines 4

Memory
Capacity 128 MB
Type SDRAM-DDR
Frequency 680 MHz
Interface 128 Bit

RAMDAC
1. RAMDAC 400 MHz
2. RAMDAC 400 MHz

am I going to be "ok" with this? ok means fluid performace on all detail settings maxed out?

I run my live on low settings that is why i have a 64mb Ati Radeon 7500(which is not supported) and also i have 600mhz.... but for some reason Nhl 2005 works smoothly with maximum settings...

I recently bought a toshiba satellite for business purposes. Now I've read a couple of times that someone was able to play live 05 even on a radeon card that is not "supported" (< radeon 8000). I was wondering if I possibly can play on my ati mobility radeon 7000. Anyone perhaps experiences or someone guessing whether it could work or not?

Thanx a lot

Got a Powercolor Radeon 9600XT bravo edition. Most settings set to max. Reflections switched to low.
Forced Settings in ATi control panel are 4x AA and 4x AF. Using the latest ATi catalyst drivers. I got the vid card just for Live 05 and now using it to play Half Life 2. (Y)

GeCube, Radeon ATI 9550 (128mb DDR). Playing Live '05, with maximum on player detail and texture, 1280*1024 resolution. Works perfect, CPU: 2,0ghz

Game runs smooth on my ATI built Radeon 9700pro.. 1280x1024 6xAA. Athlon 64 2800.

A search on NewEgg for video cards priced at $100 and lower shows some decent cards to play this game with. Radeon 9600 OEM is around $90+, same design as the 9550 above but with a higher CPU and memory speed.

The most important thing to look for in a budget card is 128bit memory interface. It gives the card extra bandwidth to squeeze out the most detail and resolution that a budget card can do.

For a higher end card that has a good price/performance ratio and great support, the geforce 6600GT.(~$200)

what card do you have?

for me, with my fx5900, the latest drivers cause BSOD's, so try an older version, perhaps that helps.

Leadtek A6600GT @ 500/1000 on an A64 2800+ @ 2.16Ghz.

Weird, this game is actually slower than with my 9500pro. I used to average around ~70fps according to fraps at all times on 1024x768.
With the 6600GT I'm getting around 60-65 regardless what resolution I put it to.
Any clues?
I was thinking this game would be even FASTER given it's a "The Way It's Meant to Be Played" game.

6600GT prolly uses a lot more details, and perhaps you have FSAA turned on in your driver settings. Still 60-65 fps, is more than enough for any game.

I'm using the exact same settings as before..so detail levels are identical..and AA and AF are both off..

Yeah 60-65 IS good enough for that game..but it's just weird that it's slower than the 9500p. This thing smokes my old card in everything else I throw at it.

I'd highly recommend the 6600GT if anyone's looking for a good mid-range card. This and the 9800p are the best buys right now price/performance wise.
