Lock Control

I play with control locked onto one player. That way, I can play as Kobe, or MJ etc.
The problem is in 2003, the computer never passes to the human controlled player, unless he calls for the ball. I've tried playing as Kobe or Shaq, and have gone through entire games without once getting the ball. It throws off the offense, and is just plain lame.
I try to play somewhat realistic...I get the ball when the computer passes me the ball. It's way too easy to get under the basket and call for the ball for an easy dunk with any player.
Is there any way to get the computer to pass to a locked human player?
