Game Freezing...Need HELP!!

Postby CBaxter on Thu Jan 20, 2005 10:03 am

I can't even finish a game without it freezing. Sometimes the screen just starts blinking black and going back to the game. When it does this I just alt+tab back to Windows and back into the game. But eventually the screen turns black and the light on the monitor starts blinking and the sound plays for a little longer and then cuts out.

I'm running P4 3.0 GHz, 512 Mb RAM, GeForce FX5700 256 Mb, 60 Gb free hard drive space.

Does anybody know why the game keeps doing this? I have the latest drivers from Nvidia. I tried lowering the sound acceleration, nothing. Please help! :?

I just got this computer upgraded and actually just got it back last night. I wasn't able to play the game before. So technically this has been happening ever since i started playing. I will try reinstalling and let you know what happens. Thanks

Does anyone know if this could be due to the fact that nba live is installed on my old hard drive, which I used with my old computer, but when I got it upgraded, I got a new primary hard drive and a new version of XP installed? I haven't reinstalled NBA Live since the new XP was installed.

i doubt it becuz the game is still running so it might have to do with video card or something
i too just reformatted my whole harddrive due to new computer but i reinstalled and just copy my old directory which i saved on my dad's computer and transferred it to the new installation and it worked as old with my old settings and everything

but search for ur video card cuz it could be ur video card and nba live not compatible or somethin, i just had a ATI 9600PRO and when i play nba live it would reboot my computer, at first i thought something wrong but it turns out it was my video card

My video card is on the supported chipset list.

I played earlier today and got this error message on a blue screen:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove of disable compnents, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Something is wrong with my video card drivers, does anybody know how to fix this problem? I tried rolling back my drivers but it said there is no backup files so I am kinda stuck. Help please! (Y)

use google to get older version of the driver. Also, reinstalling NBA will be good, as some registry entries might help.

I got the older version of the driver, and this time my monitor just went black and the little power light started blinking. The game was still running because the play-by-play was still saying what was going on. This is retarded hahah I'm so anxious to get this to work. Anybody have any other ideas?

I have discovered two possible reasons for why my problem was happening.

1) When I played and the game crashed, I was playing a full-court press defence. Because of this, I got a lot of steals and the camera angle changed with every possesion change (baseline low). I am thinking that maybe, because of all of the camera changes, my video card couldn't handle it?

2) My computer desk has a compartment for the CPU. I found that when my computer was on and the compartment door was closed, my computer became very hot and I was thinking that maybe my computer heated up too much and this caused the errors.

Since I stopped pressing full court and took my CPU out of the compartment, I have successfully completed 3 games without a problem. Does this make sense? Or will my game start crashing again anytime soon?

You might wanna try downgrading your DirectX 9.0 c to 9.0b. DX might be at fault, not sure though.
