I can't stop the guards

Postby Darko_Milicic on Wed Jan 19, 2005 3:42 am

Why I can't stop the point guards, and shooting guards? Everytime they are in the perimeter I try to defend a lot, but I can't stop them, they go inside and score with a lay-up or a short shot

Try not to get too close, if you get to close, they usually just go right around you and you won't have enough time to recover.

Another method (although a bit of a cheaty one) is to use taller guards. Watch the blockfest unfold.

The Point Guards always, and I repeat, "Always" take over in every single game that I play
I block them ever so often but they just cant miss hardly, it is very frustrating, but I just have to come back on the other end and make it up :x

You have to not play so close on them or not play them at all. Let the CPU play them and hope to swat it when they come inside. You might also think bout subbing in better defensive player on them. But you do have to back off to prevent penetration. Another thing you can do is flip from zone to man-to-man on a play. Try flipping them from time to time to make sure your men get in position. Ofcourse if you're playing another human it won't matter because all they have to do is run around long enough and someone will be open or guarding will stop plus the switching and rotating is terrible in this game unless someone flying out of nowhere to make a block.

Exactly, in previous live you could tap the steals button all night. This time you can have Marbury make a joke out of yourself. Also, in defense you need to guard everyone by yourself (if you are on superstar of course), but if youd look at the game when you dont play guards, (if you are locked player for example), then youll see that guards dont rule the game, they rule based on their stats. If player tries to guard a PG, the trying to steal thin is the hardest one. Who tries to take the ball away from a point guard anyway? I mean really? Only by a lucky shot maybe, these guys are the best ballhandlers and damn quick in reaction, you miss a steal attempt and bang, youre dead. YOu can see this every day in the games of many hot PG's in the league, in real life.

I cant stop the PGs running down the backline and doing layups.
Every now and then i either block him or he bumps into someone and drops the balls.
It is so frustrating as they dodge past 2-3 defenders and head stright for the corner of the backboard and lay it in.

Don't play so close to them to start with, and don't play with your hands up. You want to give them a little bit of space and be in the best position to react to them moving from one side to the other. If you get in their face with your hands up and try to push them away from the basket, they'll just spin right around you and make a fool out of you.

You need to give yourself time to react to that kind of thing. Stand back. It takes a bit of practice to know how far back you can safely stand without giving them too wide a look at the 3 though.

I just stay in front of the PG. I bump him so he cant get past me. If he does, I switch to my center or PF and meet him in the lane. Its not hard.

The cheapest way... is to press "take charge" right in front of the player whenever the player has just received the ball, they will try a free style first step and usually always charge into you.

The way i drefend on the perimeter is that i use the right analog stick to put my hands up. This is very effective in stopping to the 3 point shot and the drive because they bounce of you.

You're right, but it's still not good enough. You can't just press steal all the time, but you can do it more than you should be able to. You can turn up reach in fouls but all that does it make you get a lot of usless fouls throughout the game. I don't even go for steals but I still get too many of them when the CPU is guarding. I think maybe they should make it lounge more often the more times you press steal in a game so it will hurt you. I hate playing against people on or offline who continually press steal every time they get close to your man.

On another point I wonder if Marbury is too powerful on this game. I was playing online with someone and it seemed like all the did was run around and just throw up shots with Marbury. He was hitting shots I know he shouldn't. THey just seemed to go in at will no matter who was on him. Only blocking stopped him though he did eventually slow down late in game.

I understand to give him space so he cant drive, and keep close enought to guard the 3 but I am unseccessful at this. If I give him space, he drains the 3. Especially Derek Fisher :? He's a beast from the perimeter
This is just the PG for me though, if I can get the ball out of his hands then I am fine

you have to understand, that this year game is played on manual shot only online.so you have kats that mastered the release and are shooting percentages that could not be accomplished under cpu shot control.

practice your d,because once they release it,all stats go out the window.only things that matter to determine the shot going in is the release.sooo amateurish(i think i made that word up)

It seems as though the CPU likes to do catch-and-shoot 3 pointers. When the CPU, who is without the ball, gets a slightly open space, his teammates will pass the ball to him and he will catch and shoot the 3-pointer. Even though the defender has already recovered and is already all over the CPU when he gets the ball, he will still shoot WITHOUT HESITATION! I don't care if T-Mac does this, but Tayshaun Prince also does this in the game!

That's why I would prefer CPU control online. It should be based on ratings. I was playing someone with who had SA the other day, and the BS game kept letting Barry hit 3's with people all in his face. My guys were missing wide-open ones even though I've gone in practice and practice thier rhythm and was shooting with people I can get 30's with in 3-point shootout on all-star and superstar.

I've had success dbleteaming the guards when they are hiting a lot of shots to get the ball off theyre hands. Its preatty easy to get back to the other defender althou sometimes they get open jumpers or lanes but just sometimes.

Another thing you can do is to press the man whos killing you so they wont pass the ball to him and if they do you have a great chance to steal it.

Alter a bit the Sliders. Go to the sliders thread. There are great slider settings there and pretty realistic.

Also, there is this guy who says hes doing some kind of toolkit for 2005(The last toolkit was awesome). If he does get it there should be a master editing tool where you can lower the blocking ratings for all centers in the game at once. Then do the same thing with the PFs. This way we could get rid of the freaking blocking fest.

That is exactly what we need. Too bad X-Box Live doesn't make it possible for you to just save certain things and send it to others.
