Overclocking

Wed Jan 12, 2005 12:18 pm

I heard that overclocking your video card can cause problems to ur computer and video card. Since Live 05 came out i overclocked my vid card so it run the game properly, but my friend says no to do this because it can melt my card or somethin. So is it okay to overclock my vid card, and also how can i overclock my mother board cause my mobo is really shit. Any good programs to oc my mobo?

Also i have used the searched button but no results show up

As long as you don't overclock your card too much it won't melt.
If you have an ati card, i'd recommend using rage3d tweak to overclock since it already gives u the max possible overclock setting and won't allow u to go over it (Y).

For mobo, i'm assuming you mean cpu overclocking?
Usually you can overclock it by changing the multiplier cpu value, usually X11 is default.
When you overclock something u'd usually need to increase the power voltage too.

Yea i am also using Rage3d tweak. And for the second question, yes i ment cpu overclocking. How can i increase the power voltage? And is there any program that can let me overclock my cpu?

You gotta do it throught the bios.
WHen you start up your computer press del, and when go to the blue screen, u can adjust settings there.

What kind of system are you running?

The cpu multipliers and stuff should be at the top right in teh voltage/ something settings.

in there u'll see cpu voltage, multiplier , dim voltage, agp voltage.

Keep in mind when you increase the cpu speed, it'll heat up more. So don't go too high or u'll fry the motherfucker.

My system is shit so i rather not tell what it is  But for some reason my live 05 works smoothly (only on medium settings). So my PC SPECS are:
Dell Optiplex GX1
PIII
600 mhz (yes i knw)
64 mb (Ati Radeon)
768 mb ram (only thing good on my comp  )

in there u'll see cpu voltage, multiplier , dim voltage, agp voltage.

so all this stuff would change the cpu speed? Sorry for being a n00b in computers

You think that's bad, i wont even post my computer specs.

Hey Jowe, next time we talk on MSN you're gonna teach me how to overclock my piece of shit PC a little bit. :)

You also have to use a better and more effective cooler since the processor will run at a higher temperature than it's supposed to, hence your friends remark about melting, although he overexcacuraded it but it could still be a possibility if your just messing around without knowing what your doing at all. It is also rather likely that it won't last as long as it would have if you don't overclock it since all the products are a subject of wear they will most likely to work for a shorter period of time if you push them harder. It's not that noticeable anyway, but it's always there...
It's also possible that the system will become instable and do weird stuff (strange errors, lost data...), although that's not that usual. It could also damage your processor permanently and make it useless, although that's not that usual either...

As you may notice, there's a fair chance of something going wrong with it, although if you read stuff about it and really get to know it, the chance of getting a successful overclock without a problem does increase a lot... So I recommend that you read about it a lot and get to know it before doing anything.

Hehe, this computer (my sisters) has 350 Mhz, face that. :lame:

Thu Jan 13, 2005 11:40 pm

Haha, my pocket pc is faster than that. Mine has a 400mhz cpu

Don't laugh at it, it'll feel bad.

Damn it, you made it freeze. :x

Fri Jan 14, 2005 2:51 am

I think that was because it had to load a smiley, not because he laughed at it

hahah, my old comp (still had it 8months ago) was 388hz.....this newer one is

3.2Ghz
128 MB RAM
120GB
some graphics card
blah blah blah...but it runs good and loads smileys efficiently

Fri Jan 14, 2005 8:26 am

lol mine doesnt load smileys efficently :(

Hehe, poor you, I was just joking, sadly it actually happens to you.

No wonder you're always using the mad eyes one, less animation = less chances of fucking up. :P

Nah, just playing. My sister's pc is slow, no doubt, but it does have cool neon lights, wow! Be amazed! It's like I'm in the fast & the furious with the stupidest & slowest car in the world, with neon lights on it.

Fri Jan 14, 2005 2:54 pm

Sat Jan 15, 2005 2:44 am

solitaire runs smooth mostly....needs a better graphics card to handle that game though

Sat Jan 15, 2005 11:29 am

Oh i see, you might need to do another upgrade before you can run minesweeper then.
That game is bloody cpu intensive. :|
