Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Nobody else seems to think this game is terrible

Postby JasonW on Thu Jan 06, 2005 11:08 am

Except me. I have enjoyed the NBA live series until now.

My first problem is the difficulty
not that it is too hard, if I conform to a certain style of play it would be pretty easy to win on hard, not tremondously easy mind you, but possible. The way I like to play makes it nearly if not completely impossible. NBA live 2004 was very condusive to my style. When oyu turn up the difficulty it doesn't seem to make the computer better at offense or defense, they just shoot a higher percentage. This is completely stupid because then you have teams shooting a 60-70 field goal percentage and you have to have to match it. While this makes the game more difficult, it is completely unrealistic and it makes the game boring. The pro hop button should just be called "Automatically lose your ball button" It is absurd how ineffective they made such a great move from 2004 to 2005. Granted in 2004 they made it a little to easy to score with the move, but in 2005 they made it pointless, sure you can score with it, but only when you are wide open and have tons of room, in which you should just approach the hoop and dunk it or lay it up. I play with the Sonics, and When Evans is contested he contorts his body when he changes his shot like he's Kobe Bryant. Big men do not do this! You don't see Shaq doing air reverses! They go strong, but not in NBA live 2005 they do their best shooting gaurd impression and miss, most frusting BS I have ever seen in a game period. If I don't make an effort to change their shot with a button they should simply go strong.

I have never been more furstrated with a game and I cannot believe it's high rating, unfortunately the ESPN game is also terrible. Hopefully a better game will come out next year because I am itching for a good basketball game and the two available are poor at best.

I do want to like the game so if anyone has ideas on how to tweak the settings to make it playable for me let me know.

Thanks,
Jason

overall im satisfied with the game but i do see where your coming from...

everyone here is probably gonna say "adjust your sliders"... which is probably your best solution... but if your like me and like to keep it to default so that other visitors arent confused or taken advantage by your personal slider settings, i would imagine how frustrating the game has turned out to be

the shooting percentage thing is true... in real life they dont always hit open shots... and even more so well contested shots... in the game they're almost flawless.... but still if you play good defence and anticipate almost exactly when the computer is gonna shoot you can force a bad shot....

the pro hop... i do think it was too potent in 2004... but in 2005 its pretty much a visual affect as it has no real purpose... the point of a pro hop usually is to split the defence or jump into an open space to avoid a defender... but you cant do that in this game you only can pro hop when its absolutly free... which defeats the purpose of the pro hop in my opinion... but the computer seems to be able to pro hop with the same affect as 2004... especially with Bibby or Billups... your defender seems to just slide out of the way even if your holding the "take charge button" long before the computer goes into the pro hop animation

there are a few other annoying things about the game like unrealistic blocking animations and "no call fouls"... but it still a game... and you have to admit it has come along way to try and shed its "arcade-like" reputation...

im not sure but i dont think you can change the sliders ONLINE in a RATED GAME... thats where some people have a reasonable and valid gripe about the new programming of the pro hop....

for pro hop jus change sliders for dat

for cpu high fg%... jus play realistic up in their face D and dont press the steal button 100000000 times cause u will get beat!!! i can hold cpu to around 40% consistently

You have to adjust your sliders. With the original sliders the game is crap.

With adjusted sliders it is the best game in the Live series. Live 2004 was much to easy you could run fastbreaks after every rebound and the ai was to stupid to play defense.

Live 2005 is much harder and you may have to adjust your style of playing to win games.

The pro-hop button is useless with the default sliders... Why, you might ask? Because the pro-hop effectiveness of the user is set at 0, nada, ZERO! If you pump it up to like even 30 it does work sometimes like it did and it is meant to do.

EA just dropped the ball on this and forgot set user pro-hop effectiveness to some rating... I don't think they planned it to be zero.

The AI has the pro-hop effectiveness set at a number above 0 and that's why he can do it, but you cannot...

And about big guys going up strong... They do it now atleast to some extent... In Live 2004 they did that really weird looking demented shot animation every time someone was there to contest the dunk attempt... In Live 2005 they go up stron from time to time and only seldomly do that one shot change you are referring to.

The only real problem in the game is all the blocking by the big guys... Guys like Shaq and KG and TimmyD average about 9 blocks against me every time... Lay ups and dunks are too easy to block from behind... That's the only real problem in the game that I've had some trouble dealing with. One more thing is the hook shot... It was too easy to score with it in Live 2004, but it gets blocked way too much in Live 2005... It should just miss more against tougher defenders rather than giving out blocks on every turn. That's the way it really goes.

It ain't perfect... If you want perfect... Go put the sneakers on, find some friends and play some hoops for real... This is only a game and it will always be only a game... It is a good game and has lots of entertainment value... I like it... It could be better, but that will have to wait until next year.

Try the spin move... It works almost like pro-hop did in Live 2004...

I like the new way of the Pro-Hop. In 04, it was way to easy and if you wanted to get by someone, just pro-hop yo way to the hoop.

Very, very annoying.

there is no offensive foul at all. did you guys notice that. i set the offensive foul frequency into high and sitll nothing happen. unlike on live 2004, when you make a "draw offensive foul", once the player bang on you its automatic offensive foul. also the fouls, usually they call the foul on the other player which did not even touch or make the contact on the guy shooting the ball..

WHAT ARE YOU DOING EA????!!!!!
it is terrible!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x

Its always been like that. Even since before `03...

Plus i get too many Offensive fouls... But there player boxes and animations are way off, they need to use variables for areas of a characters models.... Remeinds me of some old SC Shiats.

You can definately make the pro hop effective if you know what you're doing. If you juke/stutter some you can free up room and if you finess it right you will pull off the pro hop... but it doesn't work everytime. I usually use that cross over that you get when you pull the analog stick down while standing still dribbling, once you make room from that the pro hop is effective. I think it's pretty realistic.

I agree about big men doing that freestyle air crap. 90% of the time freestyle air is executed I am worrying my ass off that it's going to end up under the backboard causing a lame turnover.

As for you saying the other team shoots a high FG% if you turn the difficulty up. Play some defense, I don't have these problems. I play on superstar and I have to work my ass off on defense, some teams just have good games, some teams don't. If you play every millisecond on defense hard you won't have these problems and if you do, it'll be a realistic good game from the cpu.

But yea, sometimes they hit mid range shots that shouldn't be hit when you've got 2 men in their face.

1. You are right the game is design for dicate a certain style of play.
2. People need to stop you are or aren't doing a certain thing when you play.
3. EA does have a habit of games not getting harder when you turn up difficulty just the computer doing more BS or doing something or in a way you can't do it.
