Why are Suns rated so badly & Joe Johnson a bad defender

Postby MaddenFreak on Sun Dec 19, 2004 4:22 am

I just wondered why the 20-3 Suns are not rated that great. Also, if I remember correctly, Joe Johnson is rated like a 37 for defensive awareness. He's the Sun's best defender! When they put him on LeBron James the entire game last time, LeBron only scored 15 points I believe. He held Kobi to only 20 points last game. That may need to be corrected. I never really looked through anything else, but that just stood out to me.

Joe Johnson's rating I can definitely fix. The problem with overall ratings is that they don't really allow for teams that are playing better than expected. I don't like to boost or lower player ratings simply to reorder the team rankings as that causes problems with gameplay. I'm sure I can make some improvement though.

Andrew, I see what you mean. The Suns lineup is pretty much dominated by five outstanding starters scoring most of the points and then a bunch of roll players. Just so you know, the three main bench players are Leandro Barbosa, Steven Hunter and Casey Jacobsen. Barbosa scored 19 points in 21 minutes a few games ago, so he can be pretty decent sometimes. Nash, Stoudemire and Marion could all be All Star type players this year, and Joe Johnson is rock solid and their best defender. Joe Johnson is actually shooting 53% from 3 point land. That's unbelievable. He had about 30 points a few nights ago.

Quinten Richardson is also a good scorer but has a lousy 39% FG percentage. He's 34% from 3 point land. Nash is actually their second best free throw shooter next to Joe Johnson. Just thought I'd mention a few helpful hints since I leave here in Scottsdale.

When will we see your next roster update Andrew?

Sorry Andrew, I made a typing mistake. I meant to say that Nash was the second best three point shooter on the team next to Joe Johnson, not free throw shooter. Nash is the third best free throw shooter of all time in the NBA actually.
