Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Is there some serious "homerism" going on in 2005?

Wed Dec 08, 2004 6:47 am

Okay, check this out. Is it just me or is there some favoritism by the NBA Live programmers when it comes to players who either currently represent their game or past coverboys?

For instance, in virtually every franchise I've started Antoine Walker is always making the All-Star team as a starter no less and is in the running for the MVP award. It got on my nerves so I lowered his ratings from 80 (that rating alone raises a red flag! ) so I lowered Toine to a 70. Well, he's still putting up fantastic numbers and is STILL starting at power forward on the All-Star team....

Also, in the MVP voting it's filled with "Live guys" such as Jason Kidd, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. Now naturally, they are some of the NBA's best and are MVP caliber players but c'mon, every single time??? And when I'm not controlling the Lakers I have yet to see Kobe in the running for MVP or even average better than 24 points per game but Jason consistently averages anywhere between 26 and THIRTY points per game...

Hehehe, and when you play the Spurs? My God, Tony Parker is like Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson and John Stockton all rolled into one! Am I just being paranoid or are guys experiencing anything similar to what I'm talking about?

i dont c it that bad... but i do c the same guys in the all star candidates... the funniest is vince carter, because this year we all kno hes having problems... and even last year he wasnt MVP candidate AT ALL.... but hes there in live every time, 23-25 ppg, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, numbers around there

duncan is there, shaq is there, but guys like lebron arent

Sure, I believe it. JRich just pushed FOUR guys out of the way when dribbling to the hoop from 15 out on the wing for an easy layup. Ridiculous.

I wouldn't doubt that, especially with Antoine. It's kind of funny though, cuz I have Tim Duncan on my team, and every year he's the NBA Finals MVP, but he never won season MVP, never makes it to the All NBA Team even though he's putting up great numbers, and he rarely makes it to the All NBA team. Even Baron Davis is putting up spectacular numbers, and he's not very well recognized. I think user controlled teams find it harder to get their players in the spotlight.

Just looking at MVP candidates and stuff in peoples dynasties the Hawks seem to be WAY too good. I see Al and 'Toine in MVP candidates all the time, and the Hawks have been a top5 Eastern Conference team. :?

I have noticed that in year's past too. Certain players are more capable of doing things with their ratings. *coughLUEcough*

hmm yeh did u edit through the dbf editing way or just using live 05's edit player....cause when u edit ratings in Live's edit player it never works.....like I edited AK47's block rating in the normal edit player, it was like 70 somethin....put it to 99 but he still averages just 1 bpg.

I think using the dbf way it changes things.....try that IF u havent.

But yeh, I remember Danny Fortson use to be an all-star even with 12ppg-10rpg stats and err always at least 3 rookies (live 01 and 03 mostly) would be on the all-star team. Whilst guys like Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant would come off the bench and u'll have some funny rook named Shaquille Camby starting instead.

Dunno just try the method mentioned above ^^ to see if it makes a diff to Toine. :D

Thanks for the info my brother but I haven't the slightest idea what "dbf" is, I'm a console gamer.

when you edit a player in create a player, it changes the value in the DBF, when you edit the dbf, it just changes that number directly- there isn't a difference. or at least, there shouldn't be. if there is, EA's got problems.

I don't think changing the ratings have an affect on the averages of the players. Maybe for generated rookies or created players, but for the original players in the game, I think they have another set of values that you have to change.... ask Andrew or someone else who's done roster patching to tell you, coz i'm not totally sure.

The only player who doesn't belong in the list of MVP is Walker, the others are all legitimate candidates.

I believe Walker has high stats because he plays on a team with few good players (basically him and Al Harrington). Kobe on the other hand has to share stats with Odom, Divac, Butler...just to name a few.

IMO, if you put Kobe or Time Duncan on the Hawks, they will increase their stats as well. It's not that EA favors cover boys, at least I don't think so..

Excellent points Dre, by the way I love the name.

Well I was thinking the same things as Dre #2. Dre #1 I think as Dre #2 stated that they are all contenders for MVP, but it is strange to see nearly the same people there every single time. At least be thankful that you can get a guy on the MVP list. I got Bron on there with 36 ppg 8 rpg and 8 apg. I don't necessarily think its just because they're former coverboys. Look who EA puts on the cover-MVP's, soon to be MVP's, and really top notch players, minus the ones of the past few years. At least I don't ever see Melo or VC on there.

Wussup R-Double, you bring up valid points too. All these guys are in fact MVP caliber players so perhaps it was a poor decision to weigh in with that one on my part. But like you said, it's always the same people. The Antoine Walker thing? I dunno, I just think those incredible programmers over at EAC have this affinity for Toine that is beyond comprehension.

And when you play against any of their coverboys or former reps? WHOA, it's like you''re facing Jordan or one of the "Monstars!"

Yeah..same name...and I believe you were the guy who (like me) switched back to Live series after playing the 2K series for a couple of years. Same name..same story..

On the MVP thing....In my dynasty I actually have Ray Allen and Elton Brand showing up in the list sometimes. It's not always the same 5 names...although Walker is always there, unfortunately :?

i havent have that problem...

Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:19 am

i think dbf editing helps a lot....it changes players stats..i never changed antoine and im on my 4th season in dynasty and i havent seen antoine on the list of mvp candidates...

right now my mvp candidates are as follows..

lebron james(im using cleveland)
kobe bryant
dwayne wade
amare stoudamire
and tracy mcgrady

none of them are nba live's coverboys..,so i think maybe its coinsidence or maybe because its because i edited player ratings...walker on my game by the way was with the bobcats now..i think free agency or something averaging about 14 points per game...i think it depends on the team where the player is in..
