Raptors Report

The Raptors finally got the thumbs up from David Stern to break up their franchise. The Raptors traded/released all their players today.

Vince Carter the franchise face for ever so long was signed by Chicago, the Bulls who have been struggling for so many seasons managed to bring Carter to Illinois. It'll be a big boost to a weak Bulls backcourt and with Carter they have a outside shot at the eastern conference playoffs.

ImageImageImage
Vince to Chi-Town, Bosh to NYK and Rafer to Atlanta plus much more.

Meanwhile last years draft pick Chris Bosh was signed by the Knicks, New York who have been looking for a proper big man have finally got one in the young upcoming player.

Other big name players such as Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall were signed by Houston and Golden State respectively, both are expected to play starting roles with their new teams.

Point guard Rafer Alston is headed to Atlanta, a team depleted of any real respect will now rely on a new squad to bring some respect to their franchise. Alston has impressed alot in training camp and also had a breakout season last year with Miami playing backup to Dwyane Wade.

While the Nuggets got a healthy prize in Morris Peterson who signed with the Nuggets and is expected to fill in at the starting two guard slot ahead of Voshon Lenard. Its a big boost for the Nuggets who lacked depth at the two spot.

Last of all rookie Rafael Araujo was picked up by the Utah Jazz, he is likely to have significant minutes with the club although he will be playing backup to both Okur and Collins.

Other Raptors players are still free agents but are expected to sign once the season starts.

All the new Raptors reported yesterday and had a small practice ahead of their first preseason game against the Lakers.

PreSeason : Game 1 : Lakers Truimph against New Look Toronto
Final Score : Lakers 65, Raptors 64

The Raptors new look squad to the courts for the first time at the Air Canada Center. They would be playing the Glitter boys of the NBA in the Los Angeles Lakers who are now led by Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom.

It was an intense game once it started, both teams were hitting bucket for bucket and their was plenty of pushing and showing, earlier on Kobe Bryant had quoted as to saying that the new Raptors squad looks like a "bunch of colorado brunettes" saying that he had no respect for them and he would mash them.

But the Raptors captains Honor Glow and Joshua Carr could care less as they propelled their team early on, Carr was grabbing the boards and hit a sweet jump shot.

The real big note of the first quarter was Desmond Jackson, he was hitting shots from all around the key and Vlade Divac was struggling to stop the fiery Jackson.

The Raptors took a lead of 17-12 and Kobe and Co were looking a bit dazed as to how they were down to a newbie team. But the Lakers made a charge back in the second as the Raptors defense slacked off big time, the Lakers werent going to make it easy for Toronto either as they kept blocking shots and playing rock hard defense.

Image
Coach Najira watched by his players as he sets up a play against the Lakers.

The teams went into the tunnel at the first half with the Lakers leading by 35 to 34.

The Raptors came out in the second half like a new side, their defense was raised a level and they scrubbed off the pressure which could be clearly seen on their faces in the first half.

Cocobee lead the charge as he pounded in 3 monster dunks on 3 consecutive plays which lead the the Lakers calling a time out. It didnt take long for tempers to boil as Cocobee attempted his 4th dunk in a row he was welcomed by a hard foul by Odom one which the Raptors didnt take likely and soon a small war of words begun. This lead to Cocobee and Odom being called for technicals.

As the quarter progressed however it was the Raptors that had the comfortable lead, as they entered the 4th quarter they had a big 12 point lead that seemed tough to bring down.

But it was the 4th quarter in which the Raptors showed a bit of amateurism as they started slacking off on defense and kept giving the Lakers plenty of open looks.

With 1 minute to go Chucky Atkins hit a wide open 3 that reduced the deficit to 1 point, this forced the Raptors to call a timeout but Coach Najira's talked didnt seem to get through as Ben Takash took a 3pt shot instead of going inside, it missed but the Lakers missed on their next shot.

Joshua Carr then brought the ball up himself and passed in to Jackson and he didnt miss, putting the Raptors backup by 2 with around 14 seconds left. But then came the killer possesion, the Lakers answered Jackson shot with a 3 pointer from Odom with just 4 seconds on the clock.

With only around 3 seconds left to take a shot the Raptors would go to Takash to take the winner, but it was in vain as the shot missed everything but the camera man.

Image
Worley was one of the bright sparks for the Raptors on debut.

"Its just a loss, we'll rebound back and be better than ever we got 2 more games to get use to the league and I think the 2 games will be sufficient for my boys." Said Coach Najira.

The Raptors will now fly to New Jersey to play the Nets.

Pre Season ::
Raptors leave for New Jersey

Toronto, Canada

Image
Raptors meet Mr.Triple Double tomorrow.

The Raptors are scheduled to depart tonight and head off to New Jersey for their second pre-season game. The Raptors lost to the Lakers earlier on today and will be looking to get their game right this time as they look to gain their first victory as the "New" Raptors.

"It was a tough game, we played well but we couldnt get it right when it mattered. We played as a unit and thats very important for our success, we have to regroup now and get ready to play New Jersey which should be a challenging matchup aswell." Said Carr while talking to the media at the airport.

The Raptors will play the Nets tomorrow, a few changes to the lineup may happen as Cody Worley might get the nod ahead of Ben Takash who had a bad first game. Coach Najira might not attend the game as he has been suffering from the flu and head assistant Andrew Begley will take the temporary role of acting head coach.

just a suggestions
i hope since this is only a pre-season game, might as well try to shuffle the team and let the bench players (like me) to start on the next game. then maybe. on the 3rd and last game, all who play great in the 2 previous game will start. then on real season lets the real starters start the game.

PreSeason : Game 2 : Jackson and Carr pound New Jersey and get ready for Miami
Final Score : Lakers 65, Nets 62

A big truimph for the Raptors as they beat New Jersey comfortably although the final score line shows differently. Even a big night from Jason Kidd couldnt stop the Raptors this time as they played with alot of liveliness and enthusiasm, something that could not be said of the previous Raptors squad.

The Raptors dominated at the start as they were hitting every shot and grabbing the rebounds, however it was Jason Kidd that kept the Nets focused and started a revival from the Nets.

The Nets lead on the boards mid-way into the second quarter but the Raptors had a comfortable 8 point lead and were hot on offense as Desmond Jackson and Ben Takash were the main contributors both hitting shots comfortably.

Heading into the half the Raptors lead by 31 to 24 and looked very comfortable unlike yesterday night.

But yet again the Raptors came out of the tunnel a different team, yet again they started slacking off on defense and kept having to cause fouls to prevent fast breaks and easy layups. This was too frustrating for Coach Najira who attended the game even though he was suffering from the flu bug.

Image
Coach Najira was disgusted with his players for slacking off.

He was seen shouting at his players and kept on telling them to concentrate and not slack off on defense on they would loose the game. The harsh words got into the Raptors players as they came back playing tough defense, Carr was the key figure as he made 2 blocks, 1 on each Jefferson and Scalabrine respectively.

The Nets could find their way back from there on, even though they kept keeping the game close it didnt look like they would ever tighten the deficit they had, Kidd kept on playing hard but he didnt get any real support from his team, Jefferson was guarded with extreme ferosity.

Image
Carr has been living upto expectation so far and is sending Shivers down opponets.

A small lapse in the last 2 minutes allowed to close in but they couldnt find the extra enery to make the killer comeback that was required of them.

"We played hard but they were simply better than us, I dont get any support from my team and its quite upsetting but Im sure we can bounce back come the season." Said A disapointed Kidd.

Image
Kidd did all he could but the Nets still look woeful, but he may not have to suffer for longer.

Kidd has been rumoured to be on the move as he has been upset with the Nets management after trading two key players in Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles for absolutely nothing. The Trailblazers are expected to make a run at him, many insiders tell us that Kidd could be on his way out by the end of this week if a good deal is struck.

The Raptors however have to leave for Miami for their final stop in the preseason, the Raptors are likely to give minutes to their bench players and give rests to key players Carr, Jackson, Glow and Cocobee.

Raptors.Com wrote:PreSeason : Game 3 : Raptors get smashed in Florida
Final Score : Miami 80, Raptors 59

After achieving their first win the Raptors got a harsh reality check when they played Miami. Shaq and Wade destroyed the Raptors and made the new players look like college players rather than NBA players.

Miami dominated in the first few minutes but it was the Raptors that had the game going there way, with a new look lineup their were a few raised eyebrowns among few fans and critics.

The second quarter was also in the flow of Toronto and they looked comfortable playing against the Dynamic Duo, but Miami was starting to show threatening signs and it started looking a bit shaky on Toronto's side.

Image
Wade lived upto the nickname hes recieved, he indeed was playing like "Superman" would.

With a lead of 1 point going into the half the Raptors knew they would be a hard second half ahead as Dwyane Wade was showing eery signs of going into Superman mode.

Unfortunately Wade did go into that mode and he and the rest of Miami played like a team possesed, shots were hard to come by for the Raps and they seemed to be crumbling under pressure.

Even the bench and Coaching Staff couldnt get the Raptors going and they started heading on a downward spiral that ended up making the Raps look like they had never played basketball before.

The Heat took the game comfortably, even Shaq hit his free throws and so did Haslem which sunk really deep into the Rapz minds and from there the fouls came but all that was happening was the deficit was increasing.

Soon the game was over and Miami had just punished the Raptors in almost every department, it sure was a reality check but the Raptors still remain with their heads up and Captain Joshua Carr and Honor Glow both who played small minutes commented on the game.

Image
Even Emmendis flashy plays couldnt stop Miami.

"There a good team, you get these kind of nights you just have to clear your head and suit up for the next game and move on, its not the end of the world." Said Glow.

"I think our boys did well but when you play against one of the best its gonna be hard to compete but we'll improve from here, the guys are smart so Im sure they'll all learn a valuable lesson from this game." Said Carr.

Notes -
A Bad night for "us", I struggled to shoot and man Miami played some awesome defense, I kept fouling at the end but Shaq and Haslem hit their free throws and well they kept passing the ball to Wade and well from there on it just got ugly. Lets hope for the best in the season (y)
Plus Im going to use the Quote method from now on, it gives a more newspaper feel to it. :D
Oh yeah and Jason Kidd will be traded to ?, Ill post an article on who gets him tomorrow or so

Great great recap, very impressed! Seems like J.Carr is the go to man here and boy can he dunk. Coach Najira let me know when we get to the quarter-season mark...I'd like to 'Birdie' our team up so we can see who's really the go-to guy...and who needs to be cut(j/k)

Man, I love the preseason, I wish 2006 would have some typed of preseason to tool up roster before the real season began.

I hope Coach Najira feels better...

Insiders.com wrote:Trade Mill : Kidd on his way to Denver

Jason Kidd is headed to the mile high city after a 3-way blockbuster trade was confirmed.

Image
Kidd back with K-Mart.

The deal involved the Nets, Nuggets and Bulls.

The Nuggets would send Andre Miller and Nikoloz Tskitisvilli to the Nets and send Nene to the Bulls and recieve Jason Kidd from the Nets and Eric Piakowtski from the Bulls.

Whilst the Nets would acquire Eddy Curry from the Bulls in exchange for Alonzo Mourning.

Kidd will now combine yet again with Kenyon Martin and will also have several new options in Carmelo Anthony, Voshon Lenard and Marcus Camby. Whilst the Bulls now look like a possible playoff team after the addition of Vince Carter also taken to note, and the Nets get a much needed big man in Curry who will finally have a new surrounding in which he could shine in while Tskitisvilli and Miller will both be key contributors.

First Vince now Zo and Nene,
the Bulls are changing fast.

"Im glad to be on my way to Denver, their a championship calibre team and I know I can lead them to the promise land." Said Kidd.

"Its pretty good to see some new faces, Zo's going to be a big difference for us and Im sure we got a roster that can compete against the best." Said Carter on the trade.

"Its a new start but Im confident our new players will fit in well, its sad to see Jason go but thats basketball you have to be ready for anything and anyone." Said Jefferson.

Raptors.com wrote:Season Opener : Raptors loose to new look Nets in Double OT
Final Score : Nets 100, Raptors 96

The Raptors hosted the Nets this time, both teams who've had big changes done in the offseason were looking to get off on the right foot.

The Nets and Raptors both started at a comfortable pace as both teams played at a steady pace and kept the game level and their wasnt anything to differ the teams by in the first quarter.

Image
Emmenidis had a career night that included a 360 in open play.

The second quarter though saw the Raptors break loose, it was Emmenidis who broke out on a scoring spree, as he scorer 18 of his 31 points in the second quarter. While the Nets new point Andre Miller was playing like that resembled to his days with the Cavaliers and kept filling almost every stat column.

The teams went into the half with the Raptors leading 46 to 38.

The second half saw the Raptors advance forward and start taking a bigger lead as they were mid way through the 3rd quarter and held a 12 point lead. Still the Nets kept playing hard and it was Eddy Curry and Eric Williams who stepped up for them, both ended up with 19 points and lead the scoring in the third quarter.

The Nets started making a comeback in the middle of the fourth, yet again it was Andre Miller who lead the charge as he started scoring and distributing the ball oh so well, Jefferson also banged in 2 key 3 pointers which narrowed the lead into single digits.

With just 2 minutes to go the Nets would break in on a valuable 10-2 run that would even things up and with just 10 seconds to go the Raptors would set up a play for the player with the hottest hands which happend to be Emmenidis. He failed to hit the three point shot and it forced overtime.

Image
Glow getting ready to lift off in traffic.

The first OT was played at the pace of the first quarter, both teams kept the score tied level and no one seemed to have the desire to take a risky play and chase for the lead.

The second OT started, the Raptors got off on a bad foot missing 3 shots in a row and the Nets hit all 3. Honor Glow then hit a vital 2 shot which brought some momentum back to the Raptors, however the star of the preseason Joshua Carr would let the Raptors down as he failed to convert on two consecutive plays.

With time running down the Raptors would have to start fouling, however the Nets didnt have any problem converting their free throws. Even though the Nets pushed for a 4-0 run in just the space of 10 seconds their wasnt anyway they could tie or win the game as the 4 point deficit proove insurmontable.

Not to be too anal here, but can you change my number to #21...I'm a big fan of that number(That used to be Michael Cooper's number and now Kareem Rush's) ...if you got a minute or two to spare.
