I just played the demo of pro evolution soccer 4. Man, it is the best soccer game ever. (well I say that every year with every new winning eleven/pro evolution soccer.)
FIFA soccer tried...but failed miserably. If you're playing FIFA Soccer (for some odd reason), or you've never played pro evolution soccer, play the demo right now!

Seriously, FIFA is horrible...HORRIBLE..compared to this game.
Here are some reasons:
FIFA's ball physics are sort of awkward and there is a bit too much bounce. PES4's ball physics are practically perfect.
The graphics of winning eleven are actually better now.
FIFA is much more arcadey and you can make weird shots with much more frequency.
The momentum changes (changing speeds, slowing down, etc.) are much better than PES4.
You really need to try PES4 if you still think FIFA is a good game. Just try it. The difference is so huge, you'll never play FIFA again.
Tue Nov 30, 2004 4:10 am
yeh I tried both but FIFA is still ahead.....Winning Eleven doesnt have real players and real kits n stuff....
Winning Eleven's good for gameplay, specially if your not the type who cares abt players ....I guess its good to play if u arent a true football fan.
FIFA has more budget and stuff so it can easily fix stuff...it keeps adding alot of shit everyyear....I think this year they'll focus alot of gameplay so umm Winning Eleven will need to start getting REAL players and "Real" Teams.
But as a big ass football fan, Id go with FIFA because its good pretty good gameplay....and its got real names and a realistic feel to it.....Winning Eleven maybe more REALISTIC in terms of playability but nothing else abt it is really realistic enuff.

I agree that Fifa is a really bad game. But saying that ProEvo is the best ever is pushing it a little don't you think?
There were very little things I actually did like about Fifa, and that was the abilities to do stuff with the right-stick. Dribbles and receptions and stuff like that. The other thing is all the different leagues that you can play. ProEvo has the ability to use the right-analogue button to dribble, but so far I've only managed to make one (the 360).
ProEvo has two major let-downs.
1. There are like 3 real leagues and 3 fake ones (not a very good selection if you compare to Fifa's 20 real ones, +15,000 players).
2. The graphics and the interface. It looks wa
aaay to much like it's directly taken from a console version. (It actually reminds me of those gaming stations at the video-store...)
You can see that especially when you’re going to assign new buttons... Great options here: You have to assign new buttons by using a picture of a PS2-contoller. Really nice
ProEvo would have been so much better if they would have spent more time on the interface and the conversion to PC.

I agree, PES is better than FIFA, the gameplay is absolutely awesome !
Although FIFA has real jerseys, logo, etc..., PES is still better.
Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:01 am
I guess you two haven't played PES 4. Now they have official licenses! Check it out! Even for club teams too.
Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:02 am
Oh and graphics and interface too. I'm guessing you've only played PES 3 then. PES 4 is WAY way better graphics wise. Plus, it will have online play. (Yea FIFA has online play too, but you gotta pay for EASO.)
Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:03 am
Plus gameplay is way better than FIFA. FIFA is so unrealistic I can't play it for long. Who cares about the interface.

They have licenses for all these teams now.
And you don't seriously play K-League all the time or any of those leagues, do you?
Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:27 am
I'm guessing this should be enough for all you "licenses matter" people. PES 4 has much much much more licenses than before. Plus much better graphics. It's even better than FIFA.
You can get patches in the internet anyhow, even if the licenses were wrong. Same thing with real uniforms and anything, making licenses a non-issue. But you CAN'T change gameplay and gameplay in FIFA is horrible.

With even the advertisements on the jersey (like the one on the front of Lazio and Juventus jerseys).
So, there you have it. PES4 has got licenses now. (Which you could have fixed in PES 3 by downloading a patch anyhow...but whatever..)
Tue Nov 30, 2004 6:18 am
Whoa, 6 posts in a row...
And, yeah, I know there are some new licenses...
Tue Nov 30, 2004 6:57 am
Yea, but obviously the first two guys who answered didn't know as they were referring to pes 3 and making judgements by saying stuff about pes 3 not pes4, which is what I was referring to.
Tue Nov 30, 2004 10:09 am
i like pro evelution soccer but fifa is easier to patch and the jerseys look better..
heres a kit my bro made pretty cool ay his username is like jflancer or something like that
Tue Nov 30, 2004 10:52 am
well PES is patchable too. There are great patches out there like Wolf's PES/WE patch. I guess it is easier to patch with FIFA but there are patching utilities in PES too. I don't know how patchable PES4 will be (probably not too patchable) but Wolf and others are sure to release patches.
Anyhow, beyond all that, FIFA's gameplay is too arcadey to handle. There are so many times that I get pissed off at the lack of realism. I have tried FIFA 2005. I played the manager mode thing, which was pretty interesting, but there were a few problems with it... (Like you have to do WAY too much to go into a good team)
Tue Nov 30, 2004 11:00 am
Furthermore, all FIFA has been doing is copying off Winning Eleven/PES. Remember FIFA's old running system? They changed it to Winning Eleven's.
Remember FIFA's old passing system? They changed it to Winning Eleven's.
Remember FIFA's old shooting system? They changed it to Winning Eleven's!
Also the first game to have separate ball physics was done LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago in Winning Eleven. FIFA never does anything really new, except maybe copy off Winning Eleven.
I used to be a FIFA fan, and I have played every FIFA from when there was no year (94? I think?) to FIFA 2002. Once I played Winning Eleven/PES, I never turned back. It took be a lot of convincing from my friends in the beginning since I was blind, but after playing PES, you need to realize it is superior, FAR SUPERIOR in terms of gameplay.
Tue Nov 30, 2004 8:31 pm
Yah, PES has always been better then the entire EA football collection, since the Snes days. The last EA football game i played was the euro game, which was straight dirt, horrid controls, graphics, gameplay.
When i 1st fired up PES4 i was stunned by the faces, genuinely impressive. I aint played it enough to comment on the overall gameplay, but it looks very promising.
Off Topic-Although NFSU2 is the dogs bollox right now, an instant classic. Its so good, that its dragged me away from HL2

I was talking about Evo4. I have had it for a few days now, and I just don't feel like playing it at all any more. It is getting tiresome rather quickly.
And none of the real Enlish teams are in the Game, nor the German or French. They are generic ones with everything generic exept for most of the players... So they actually just got: Spanish, Italian and Dutch. Don't they? That's 3 leagues man, not good...
The interface does matter, it where you spend all the time while not actually playing a game, witch is a lot of the time.
Here's 3 screens:
Screen 1,
Screen 2,
Screen 3.
To me there's a real arcadish feel to it. I meen, c'mon, you can't even use the mouse anywhere in the game...
One last thing, the internet option isn't very good actually. You have to be on a network with other computers in order to play it, so unless you set up a Lan with it, I doubt you'll actually use it. There might be possible to use IP connection to play online, but I didn't see an option for that in there.
Sun Dec 05, 2004 1:14 am
it looks like a sega megadrive startup screen
Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:37 pm
INTERNET OPTION ISN'T VERY GOOD? Man you must have bad internet...I've played with tons of my friends in Korea...and there is 0 lag. (but then again, internet in korea is decades ahead of internet in US) Especially compared to FIFA, where there is tons of lag...
(I live in the US, so Korea is far far away...NBA Live is also terrible with lag..but PES 4 PC version anyhow, I've never experienced any lag...the best internet play experience since diablo 2, warcraft 3, and those blizzard games..)

And you people are using NLSC patches regurarly, why not use PES 4 patches? There are tons out there. I could post some screenshots of my patched version once I'm done with finals. Arcadish? Are you kidding me? The non-sense that is FIFA soccer is arcadish in gameplay. I'm sorry but FIFA does not even come near PES 4 in gameplay.
Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:50 pm
So if NBA Live had horrible gameplay, but espn basketball no longer had the license (which might happen), you'd actually play NBA Live? The player names are still consistent and only the damn logos and stuff are different (which can be patched, very easily). I don't get what's the big deal when people are getting patches here and there in NLSC, but are fussing about not having licenses when you can patch it so easily. It's as easy as getting an NLSC patch and installing it. It ain't too difficult. The gameplay is worth it. I can't believe someone can look at FIFA's gameplay and consider it playable. It's atrocious. I used to be a FIFA fan up to WC 2002 and I've played it since FIFA was first released, so I wasn't a super winning eleven fan boy, but there is a CLEAR difference in gameplay.
