Newbie Guide - Getting started

Mostly everything you need to know about patching is listed right here. Reply if you have any more questions. I'll add new information if needed.

Q: What is "patching/modding" in NBA Live 2005?
A: Patching is the ability to be able to add and edit new graphics.

Q: What type of things are patchable?
A: Jerseys, shoes, cyberfaces, courts, stadiums, props, frontend art, and much more.

Q: What tools do I need to start installing patches?
A: FshX, EA Graphics Editor, and bigGUI.

Q: What tools do I need to start creating patches?
A: FshX, EA Graphics Editor, bigGUI, and Adobe Photoshop.

Q: What is a cyberface?
A: A cyberface is a file that includes the player face that is used in the game.

Q: What is a headshape?
A: A headshape is a 3D design used for the game to determine the shape and size of a player's head.

Q: What are .fsh files?
A: .fsh files contain graphics and images used in the game which are editable.

Q: What are .ebo files?
A: .ebo files contain the 3D designs for certain files such as court layouts and headshapes.
Q: What are .viv files?
A: .viv files contain a compilation of .fsh and .ebo files.

Q: What are .big files?
A: .big files contain a compilation of .fsh and ebo files.

Q: Why do some files have an "r" at the end?
A: They are a smaller version of the normal .fsh file and are used for reflections.

Q: What type of things can't we edit (..until new tools are developed)?
A: Skin files which includes tatoos, headshapes, and numbers for jerseys.

Q: How come I can't open .fsh or .ebo files with EA Graphics Editor?
A: EAGE doesn't have the compatibility to open those type of files.

Q: What is customart?
A: Customart allows you to install patches the "temporary way". You can delete them easier than using the permanent way.

Q: How do I use customart?
A: Put patch files inside the sgsm folder inside the main NBA Live 2005 directory (not to be mistaken with the one inside C:\My Documents).

Q: Can we give players custom shoes and gear this year?
A: As of now, we are still unable to find out how to give players custom shoes and gear.

Q: How do I install rosters?
A: Put the roster files include in the installion inside C:\My Documents\NBA Live 2005\saves

We don't know if that's possible yet. I don't think EA has explained how this new custom art works thoroughly enough. (N)
