Nets win shocking 2nd DOUBLE OVERTIME game in a row!!!

The New Jersey Nets have a few well deserved days off after fighting and clawing and giving their all against the Memphis Grizzlies, to win the team's second double-overtime game in a row. Richard Jefferson went out early in the fourth quarter, but the Nets stepped up, and acquired what will be remembered as one of the great Nets victories of all time.

Lawrence Funderburke, in his first game in a Nets uniform, nabbed 7 rebounds and blocked 5 shots, doing exactly what he was brought in to do. Joshua Carr was the big scorer for Jersey, scoring 32. Tskitishvili poured in an impressive 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Gordon had a reasonably quiet game with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Ron Mercer played some big minutes in both overtimes, scoring 14 points.

Lawrence Frank: "It's kind of worrying that we can't close out games in regulation- but a win is a win...."

The Nets improve to 15-10, and have only four games remaining until the start of the playoffs. (Charlotte, LA Clippers, Boston, and Indiana)...

Jefferson Injured

Jefferson out indefinitely; Nets look to beat Bobcats without him

The injury Nets forward Richard Jefferson recieved in the 4th quarter of the double-OT win against Memphis will sideline the star player for at least one game- possibly more. It appears as if Jefferson has broken his left index finger.

Jefferson: "We're still waiting on some results from the doctors....I'm not really sure whether to be hopeful for a regular-season return or not at this point. I'm really hurting."

With only 4 games left before the start of the playoffs, the Nets are sitting on a 15-10 record....this could be a potentially fatal blow to their title hopes.

Ron Mercer will take Jefferson's spot at starting Small Forward. SG Rodney Buford has been activated off of the IR to fill Jefferson's roster spot.

Nets take easy win, even without Jefferson

It wasn't nearly a blowout, but the Nets cruised to an easy victory, while star forward Richard Jefferson watched from the bench, sidelined with a broken finger. No Net had an especially great game, it was more or less a nice vacation compared to the Nets' previous 2 Double-OT fiascos. Joshua Carr led the Nets with 27pts, 4reb, 4ast, Lawrence Funderburke saw alot of minutes due to the ineffectiveness of Antonio Davis. Funderburke tallied 11 rebounds and 2 blocks to go along with his 4 points. Nikoloz Tskitishvili scored only 14, but added 9 boards.

INJURY UPDATE: The doctors expect Richard Jefferson to only be out about 8 days, which will have him out for the next two games (Clippers and Celtics), but he should be ready for the last game of the regular season (Pacers) and for the playoffs.

glad jefferson gets back before the playoffs. and i wonder how good skita will be next year after a breakthrough season. once again very realistic trade he needed to go somewhere else and there is no other place other than maybe charlotte for him to develop.

thanks....i really wish i could see how skita's ratings will be next year after this great season before i try to sign andrei kirilenko this offseason...i might be sneaky and load up next season just to see how he improved, and then exit without saving, then do the offseason ...because i don't want to sign kirilenko as much if skita's ratings have improved.

i have the next game (vs. clippers) done and ready to post.

Nets get too comfortable, get Clipped

The Nets had a 9 point advantage going into the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold on for the win- eventually losing by four to the dangerously quiet Clippers. New Jersey had a bit of a swagger, and let down their guard just long enough to let Kerry Kittles and Corey Maggette explode, sending the Clippers on a 7-0 run.

Ben Gordon had 28 points for the Nets. Joshua Carr added 20, and 5 assists. Skita had 12 points and 9 rebounds, continuing his strong play on the boards.

Thanks for the comments cocobee and future. i guess i'm kind of re-dedicating myself to doing three things.

1) doing a FULL update on the website at least twice per season- around the all-star break, and another at the end of the season.

2) posting a small recap for each game like i have been doing- sort of like a small newspaper might do

3) BE MORE CAREFUL, AND SAVE AFTER EVERY GAME, SO THAT IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY CLICK 'SIMULATE UP TO AND INCLUDING THIS DAY', you can go back and play the game you skipped. But, alas, I did this last night after the Clippers game, I clicked on the next game, and accidentally simmed it. Didn't save after the Clips game. So I just took the simmed game- and took a hard loss. The final against Boston was like 80-55 or something  ...I think it was just the cpu saying "you loser! mwahahah!"

But I did get the Pacers game done--- the last game of the season. I will post a recap soon, and then do some pretty in-depth pre-playoff coverage.

Jefferson returns- Nets win final game of regular season; look to playoffs

Richard Jefferson returned to the court, and made it clear who the leader of this team is. The Nets went 1-2 without him, with the victory being against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats. New Jersey played what many believed to be their best game of the season- they started on a 6-0 run and never gave up the lead. Lawrence Funderburke had 12 BLOCKS, but did it so quietly that nobody really realized it had happened until they looked at the stat sheets after the game. Joshua Carr had a rather weak game, scoring only 11, but grabbing 4 rebounds with his 5'10" frame. Jefferson had 22, Gordon 23, and Tskitishvili had 21.

The Nets now look forward to the playoffs.

Playoff preview post coming tonight (hopefully. working on it now.)

East playoff preview

Postby Donatello on Wed Nov 17, 2004 10:24 am

(note that my playoff settings are 3-3-3-3)

Image

#1 MIAMI vs #8 MILWAUKEE
These teams would be pretty evenly matched, if not for two little words. Shaquille O'Neal. I just don't think the Bucks have an answer for him.
PREDICTION: Look for Miami to win 2-0.

#4 BOSTON vs #5 NEW JERSEY
New Jersey was a surprise this year. They have had their struggles, mostly due to the fact that they are led by young players. The Nets are trying to find their place in this league. If the Celtics win this series, it's only because they have the experience. This is New Jersey's series to lose.
PREDICTION: Too close to call. But I'm going to guess Boston 2-1. Simply because their guards are great, and my defense is lacking.

#3 INDIANA vs #6 TORONTO
Toronto rode Vince Carter and Chris Bosh to victories this year. The Raptors have never proven themselves as a playoff team, and I don't think this is their year. Indiana is too experienced and too deep to let this one slip away.
PREDICTION:Indiana 2-1

#2 NEW YORK vs #7 WASHINGTON
This should be a no-brainer series. New York finished the season atop the power rankings, and Washington has Antawn Jamison. The Wizards will sweep this series. No, I'm kidding. I don't see how New York could lose.
PREDICTION:New York 2-0
____________________________________________
Image

#1 SAN ANTONIO vs #8 PORTLAND
Portland has the talent to challenge Duncan and the Spurs in a long series, but being only a 3-game series, I don't think they will.
PREDICTION: Look for the Spurs to win 2-1.

#4 DALLAS vs #5 NEW ORLEANS
I'm not sure how the Hornets got so high on this bracket, but I don't see them being able to handle the Mavericks. No way.
PREDICTION: Dallas 2-0

#3 SACRAMENTO vs #6 DENVER
Now this will be a series to watch. These are two very good teams, the deciding factor might be Sacramento's depth on the bench. I'll call this one for the Kings.
PREDICTION:Sacramento 2-1

#2 MINNESOTA vs #7 HOUSTON
I have no idea- but I'm betting this series will be a war.
PREDICTION:Too close to call

Despite Herculean effort, Nets late-game comeback falls short, Celitcs up 1-0

1:45 left in the fourth quarter- the Nets are down by 12. All hope seems to be lost- but here comes the dynamic duo or Richard Jefferson and Ben Gordon. The Nets fought back to force overtime, but fell short, eventually losing Game One of Round One to the Boston Celtics, on the Celtics' home court.

Raef Lafrentz earned a bit of his huge contract, nabbing 21 rebounds for Boston.

Richard Jefferson scored 32 and brought down 8 rebounds. Ben Gordon went scoreless the entire game until the 4th quarter, when he scored 11 of his 14 points (the other 3 were scored in the OT). Joshua Carr had a quiet first playoff appearance, only scoring 13, and stole the ball twice. Scot Pollard, who has been lightly used since arriving in New Jersey, played some big minutes and collected 8 rebounds. Lawrence Funderburke went out early in the 1st with an injury and played very limited minutes.

drum roll please...

...from the annals of the 2005 Birdie Project: (info)
DonatelloForPres' New Jersey Nets 2004-05 End season Birdie Breakdown:

Image
(again, sorry 'bout the Pistons background, I'll get that fixed)

The Go to Guy this time around was Richard Jefferson, who edged Carr for team MVP honors- busting out a weighted Birdie score of 14.47- earning the rights for 'reversible' Live Card status!

So, even though only 8 tenths of a penalty point were assessed:
This Dynasty is currently ranked #2 on the 2005 Birdie Board (second behind Match66's Portland Dynasty.)

For the complete 'Birdie Breakdown' AND to see Richard Jefferson's ' reversible' Live Card click here.

Hey Donatello: Sorry about the Loss to the Celtics... I know it eats away at ya. If anything, remember all of us are pretty green for 2005 playing. Pro-hopping in 2004 got us spoiled.

I'm taking a break from game 2 of my Celtics series right now, so I thought I would take a moment to present the new look for my created player, Point Guard #17 Joshua Carr (I got my cyberface from last year and got it all converted for 2005- it looks pretty crappy, but better than the generic cyberface). I also decided on a purple hairdo for the playoffs...I'm the next Rodman  I would ask if anyone could make me a new cyberface, but I don't have any good up-front pictures, and no digital camera anymore. Hopefully soon.

THE FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON

ImageImage

A Season To Remember.....

The 2004-2005 season came to an end tonight for the Nets, losing 111-101 to be swept out of the first round against the Boston Celtics.

Image

Both games of the series went into overtime, but the Nets just couldn't mount a large enough comeback.

Lawrence Frank:"We're a young team. Simple as that. We made the playoffs and I think that was a great accomplishment with all the roster changes we went through this year. We're going to put alot of thought into which of our free agents to bring back, and who to bring in for some help.....look for us to be active this off-season. And, NO, we will not be trading any of our big four- Jefferson, Gordon, Carr, and Tskitishvili are our future- and we're committed to them."

This dynasty will go on- I will post the results of the playoffs up in the playoff post.....I'm due for the total update on the site (Lots of work, not really looking forward to it lol), I'll be providing pretty decent offseason coverage, and hope to start the new season ASAP. Thanks for all the kind comments, and I hope you all stay tuned.
