Help with Headshots and Portraits

Gosh, I like to get into this making of Headshots. Playing older Eras some that is created from any cyberface or edited face is horrible. Sadly, in my eyes, is creators put up ons of cyberfaces and portraits but very few headshots.
It's after all the headshots that is first seen when checking a roster, so I am surprised I don't see whatever you guys have made ready for some DL for us with less skills to make ones own. I do know how to mix and match in the CE to get the right numbers or whatever number new headshots is made.

Looking at this thread it looks beyond me to fix this, but I give it a try. Those headshots just needs to look good. Horrible to look at David Robinson in Jordan Era with his cartoon face and silly grin.

It's trickier this year as we have no way of assigning new face pics to older players easily. Have you ever used any graphic\paint prog? If so it's easy to make the portraits, find a pic, resize and remove the background then save and replace the face in the iff.

It may look scary at the beginning, as you could see by the amount of stupid questions I asked here lol, but after you do few than its automatic. If you need any help feel free to ask. Since bikerjimuk helped me I did almost full Magic Bird Era. I really wish we can have Hook but we don't. When you know what you are doing it will take you less than 2 minutes per pic and thats starting from scratch.

I find the discussion about portraits interesting, but I personally prefer to work with dornas.
The ones from 2k24 need editing to work in 2k25, and I have a lot of work to do to make them work.
I have many from last year, and many current ones.
If anyone could make a tutorial on how to make them work in 2k25, I would be grateful.

This seems very complicated. I'm a first time modder for 2K. I have custom portraits that other people have made for trades etc. But I don't know how to get them to work. I can use Cheat Engine to change the ones already in game like changing Karl-Anthony Town's one to his Timberwolves one on the Knicks instead of the in-game model, but I don't know how to get the custom ones to work.
What folder am I supposed to put them in?
How do I get it to overwrite the ones already in game?
How do you get the rookie ones to work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wolfix, you can replace the textures to update or change portraits and action shots for players already on the roster. You can not add new players. You can only add rookies if 2K includes them on a roster. To replace a file just edit the file and place it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\NBA 2K25\mods\player_images folder.

I thought you assign the new custom ID to the player in CE? Maybe ask in the CE thread for more info?

Ok I can't get it to work. I'm trying to change Mikal Bridges Nets Portrait to his Knicks one. Here is the file name as it is extracted from 7Zip: chr_r7709_a1.iff
I've tried renaming it removing the _a1 and renaming it to 7709 but nothing works. What am I doing wrong?

Also does anyone know if you can restore the Portraits and Headshots when you move at team to another city in MyNBA?

You need to open iff file with WinZip or 7Zip and inside you will find two more files. 1 RTXT file and one dds file. You need to rename those two too, plus you need to open RTXT file with notepad and edit inside too.

If you are updating a player for a new team all you need to do is replace the DDS file. No need for editing the TXTR file or renaming any files. The game will only use files for players in the game already. Cheat Engine may get around this but I do not know for sure. Ask in the CE post (or read the entire post) as bikerjimuk suggested. Open the TXTR file with Notepad++ to see the save format for the DDS file.

I don't need to replace anything, the picture already has him in his Knicks uniform. So why isn't it working. I dl a cyberface and put it in the Mods\Char\sig folder and it works. Do you not do the same thing with portrait mods? You're yelling me I don't need to rename anything, other people are telling me I do need to. Which is it? Is there more than one way to do this?

I'm confused, what does r7777 have to do with Bridges?
Took me 5 mins, I got the face pic from NBA.com, resized it to match the Nets one, saved it as chr_g7709.77e1b57864f9a877.dds and put it back in the chr_g7709.iff. Ta da!

If picture is already in game files than you only need Cheat Engine and just edit his picture number there if you know the number, which appears that you do. You need old NBA2K25.exe tho, because without that I had ''?'' everywhere where numbers are supposed to be. And ofc start in offline and make backup of new exe and put it back when you finish.

I don't think his Knicks pic is in the game but to be fair I'm not entirely sure what the issue was.

Maybe Language is a barrier. I remember first time I asked here I had hard time explaining to you and that other dude what I need on English. Anyhow, there is no pic of Bridges in Knicks uniform. On chr 7777 is Antonius Cleveland I believe. Cannot really say but its my quess looking at his pic and portrait.

Ok I'm going to say this as clearly as possible, I know how to change pictures that are already in the game using cheat engine. I can change Kobe's picture to Jerry West if I want, no problem.

My problem is I have downloaded a Mikal Bridges Knicks Portrait (fully body picture) iff that someone else has made, not his Headshot, his Portrait and I can't get it to replace/overwrite his Nets one in the game. That's what I'm trying to learn how to do. I understand you can't add new pictures to the game, just replace ones already in there. I have put the iff file in player_images folder.

So I opened the chr_g7709.iff file and renamed the 2 files inside: chr_r7777_a1.Mikal Bridges2023-24 (DDS) and chr_r7777_a1 (TXTR), I'm assuming I'd need to rename them to match 7709, but I don't know. Maybe it doesn't matter what the file name inside the iff is called, I don't know.

I'm not looking to make my own right now, just trying to get this one iff file to work and go from there. I'm downloading other people's Portraits they have created and I'm trying to get them to work. Just putting them in the player_images folder isn't doing anything except making the Portrait go blank. I just tried a different one of Russell Westbrook and the same result. They were from different creators, so obviously the problem is on my end.

What do I need to do to get these downloaded iif Portraits to work, because just downloading them and dropping them into a folder isn't working like I do with Cyberfaces, Balls and Courts.

Wow, you are going to be clear 3 weeks later!
It seems Bridges and KAT and others have no portrait as it is locked to their previous team, so you need to go down the Cheat Engine route, like we mentioned before.
You can edit other portraits to check it works, here I renamed the Bridges one to SGA (7710)



Also your pic was too small really, I had to resize 145% or so

When you download that mod with Bridges and Westbrook did you try opening Cheat Engine to see if they have number assigned there for portrait? Also, what I needed to do to make my own made pictures show is copy the code from ''Current Team Address'' and paste it to next two ''Portrait Team Address'' because if ''Portrait Team Address'' were empty (just zero) than sometimes pictures wont show up in-game. I believe that its unnecessary and that mod maker already assigned the numbers but you never know.

I don't know what mod you mean and I don't use Cheat Engine but reading that my guess is you add the team id to Bridges in it. Now I know the issue isn't with the dds\iff that is me done.
