Very sad news. It's been a tough for years for losing Legends, but many of them have been a bit older. 58 is far too young; it's an unoriginal sentiment I know, but screw cancer.
A tremendous defender, an underappreciated and capable scorer, and from all accounts one of the best people in basketball with his humanitarian efforts. RIP, Mt. Mutombo.
I think what hits harder and I mean no offense to the older people out here but it's sad seeing the legends pass like Jerry West and Bill Russell but I didn't get to watch them play live or live In there era so when I see someone like Mutumbo, a player from my time, a player who made defence cool and a player that I watched and then myself would play and after a blocked shot may wave my finger afterwards it's just harder hearing this sad news if you know what I mean
Absolutely, there's always going to be a stronger connection to the players we grew up watching. Also, while my views on it are changing somewhat as my parents get up there in age, someone in their mid to late 80s or 90s has lived a long life. 58 as a result of brain cancer feels cruelly cut short.
