New to 2K on PC - mod questions

Postby studbucket on Sat Aug 26, 2023 3:34 am

Hey there,

I've lurked here for a bit and posted on OS for years and finally have decided to get 2K on PC because I'm sick of 2K taking the servers down and completely screwing over my long-running console saves (particularly for "dynasty storytelling" purposes). I've installed mods for other PC games, so the technical details are less of a concern for me. Rather I wanted to understand a few logistical and technical things. Thanks for your help!

If I am focused on a great MyLeague experience - particularly for a long-running, customizable save for dynasty storytelling, what are the mods you'd recommend?
Happy to check out any recommendations. I was planning on the roster editor for sure, and things like the "heads up" mod seemed great.

Can the roster editor change a MyLeague roster?
Or can I only make edits to a roster I have loaded up on the home screen, then I have to start the MyLeague?

How can I download and access the jerseys and courts that are up on 2KShare and save them for future use?
For example, there's a Montreal Dragons design I like. How do I download that to be able to save and use it for the future after 2K shuts down the servers?

I really appreciate the help. Thank you so much.

For MyLeague you can use any roster you like, even one you have edited. There are mods for FIBA/Europe by Shuajota, fictional College(NCAA) by RobDavis, two fictional high school mods, LNB (France), summer league and G League. Most of the mods are here or on Shuajota's or 2kspecialist's sites.

Looyh has plug-ins for the Hook you may want including the heads up. Available on Shuajota and 2kspecialist.
Roster editor will save MyLeague rosters but you need the RosterModding and Player Editor+ plugin. You can enable/disable the scripts so it doesn't hurt to get them all. Make sure you save the roster after editing. You can still edit players after you have started a league in-game but the roster editor will allow more editing.

2K shuts down the servers after a while. Maybe 18-24 months. So get them while they are available. 2K saves these files in your saves remote folder. I don't know if there is a limit. I don't know if you can download a bunch to create a library for the future. If you know how to edit uniforms and courts you can borrow elements from the downloaded files and create your own but that is beyond the scope of this post. 2K pushes you to get the new version so it shuts down the servers. The only option I know of is to learn how to mod so you can keep a long running save fresh and dynamic.

Thank you so much for the response, I really appreciate it.

Some clarifying questions on this:

  1. Are RosterModding and Player Editor+ plugins for the roster editor tool, or separate mods? Are they all downloadable from here on NLSC?
  2. When using the Roster Editor, how do I ensure it is editing the active MyLeague roster vs the default roster in game? Do I load up the MyLeague in the background and that points the tool at that roster to edit?

studbucket,
1) the plugins are optional addons to the Hook app. In reality some are essential to roster editing. The plugins are script files that you copy to the Z:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\NBA 2K23\NBA2K_Hook\Scripts folder. The plugins are found on the NLSC downloads/NBA 2K23/tools & editors page. The editor is there too. Shuajota and 2kspecialist also have the files.

2) the roster editor works on whatever roster you have loaded, default, NBA or WNBA. It can be in the features/roster section or Myleague. I never play on line modes but I think the roster editor does not work for online modes to prevent cheating. Remember to save the roster after editing.
