Need help with modding court using Lagoa Court template

Postby KyotoCarl on Thu Oct 13, 2022 10:06 am

I'm trying to learn how to mod courts but I can't figure it out. Instead of Photoshop I am using GIMP (can't afford Photoshop).

I can't figure out how to change the floor, for example. Also, I figured out how to edit the color of the key, but I want to make the circle around the free throw line in another color but I can't understand how to do that.
I have watched two tutorials (one in English and one in another language I don't know) but neither are very in-depth.

I'm trying to make this court: https://iili.io/ZCJgTB.jpg"%20alt="ZCJgTB.jpg

I don't use GIMP but maybe I can help. Look for the layer named "NBA Circle Key Lines". You need to lock the transparency of this layer so you only paint the portion already painted. Using your paint brush and the new color paint over the white lines. This method applies to any other lines on the court. There are many tutorials for GIMP on YouTube and many more on the internet. Just search on Google. There are multiple ways to change colors so you will find different methods.

Thank you for your help! I think I understand what you mean and have managed to paint some lines, as a test.
What I'm wondering the most is, how to you, for example, fill in the key with one color and then fill in the half circles of the freethrow circle with another? Do I need to add a layer and then mark out where I want to fill in the colors, or is there a way to paint using just the premade layers?

You need to create an ellipse within the boundaries of the free throw circle. Duplicate it. Cut one in half and then cut the other in half to create the two half circles. Copy these and paste to the other free throw circle. Some courts have two colors for the half circles. Do this on the original template to create your own modifications that you can edit for future courts. Make the template your own. For the key you need to create a wide rectangle and two narrow rectangles for the areas where the players line up for the free throw. Copy and paste to the other side. Some courts have different colors for the lane and edges. Make your own premade layers. Templates made by other modders may have more detail, premade layers and/or higher resolutions.

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to help me. I'm starting to get a hang of it, I just need to get more used to the program I'm using. I gave up on GIMP and started using Paint.net, which is also free and I've used to before.
Getting used how to work with so many different layers is a bit confusing so I need to learn better how they work. Before I just tried to fill colors in on the different layers but that didn't work.

Here is a test court I've been working on and how it looks in game. It's coming along but there are still things I'm trying to figure out, but you've been a great help!

Paint.net and GIMP are both good free alternatives. Your court looks good. Just ask questions here or use Google or YouTube. Most of the time somebody has created tutorials and videos. Lagoa made an excellent template but most people need to customize the template and add layers for themselves. I added more floor textures and NBA logos (at the scorers table) to my template. This saves a lot of time for the next court you make. I made over 50 retro & fictional courts you can find in the 2K20 downloads section. These work for 2K20-2K23.

Thank you! It is a bit difficult since I'm not really used to work with so many layers. In the past I've downloaded courts, probably yours, and added playoff logos to them, but then I only had to work with one layer and add it on top. It's a bit fiddly now because there are so many and I don't really know what each one does, even if they are titled appropriately.

There aren't really any good in-depth tutorials on YouTube about it modding courts using the templates. I wish there was cause it gets a bit confusing.

I'm gonna keep working at it! Thank you for the support.

So I'm starting to figure out more and more and have finally been able to make a court! Thanks for the help Bassman58.

I have made a retro 90's Phoenix Suns court but it has today's sponsor on it so you can use it with today's team. The baseline logos don't have the correct font so I guess the whole thing is a bit fictional, but I'm pretty proud I managed to get this done!

I have provided a download for it to if anyone wants to try it out.
