This year's Neighborhood in Current Gen MyCAREER: The GOAT Boat

Postby Andrew on Sat Sep 03, 2022 12:37 pm

Once again, this year's Neighborhood in MyCAREER on Current Gen (PC, PS4, X1, Switch) will be nautically themed, with the GOAT Boat replacing the Cancha Del Mar.

Key information:

  • The deck system and Promenade have been revamped for better accessibility. This includes access to more game modes, and broader lanes and hallways for easier traversal.
  • "Showers" allow gamers to quickly change servers, similar to the subways in previous Neighborhoods.
  • There are three decks, divided into different areas. The Platinum Deck includes six 3v3 courts, six 2v2 courts, two 5v5 courts, the Gatorade Training Facility, and the entrance to Excursions.
  • The Silver Deck includes access to the Jordan Challenge and MyTEAM. It also features The Rec, The Cages, The Galleon 1v1, The Bridge 3v3, Daily Pick 'Em, Daily Prize, and all of the stores.
  • MyCOURT and Ante-Up are found on the Gold Deck.
  • Multiple elevators facilitate quicker travel between the three decks, and different areas within the same deck.
  • No-Wait Gameplay is available in addition to Got Next for Park games. As in The Rec, gamers will be automatically matched up with each other when using this option.
  • Popular Excursion locations from NBA 2K22 will return, and new ones will be introduced. There will be one new Excursion and on-deck event each Season.
  • There will be cosmetic updates to the GOAT Boat each season, matching the theme and vibe.
  • Quests are received by interacting with NPCs, and will not be automatically given this year.
  • In addition to Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal Quests, Rival Quests will involve competing against the AI in 1v1 games with a storyline attached.
  • The story has been described as immersive and realistic, with "authentic dialogue".

Nothing about leveling up and rewards. I guess it'll be likely the same as last year.

I imagine so. I suppose the current Seasonal approach is robust enough that as long as the rewards themselves are different and interesting, most people won't mind a familiar system as they'll enjoy what it delivers. I feel they've drifted too far away from the core basketball experience when it comes to MyCAREER, so I'm happy to leave it for those who do enjoy it. I've had to make peace with the realisation that I've aged out of the core demographic when it comes to that stuff.

I'm guessing snippets of the story that'll also be on Next Gen, and the Seasonal content. Other than that, probably a very familiar MyCAREER mode.
