Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

... that Live 2005 is a POS. Either that or suddenly I totally suck. All my first impressions were from "starter" difficulty, but now that I've moved on to "All-Star" I'm sorely disappointed. I'm going to try to put up a video that explemfies the situation (used my little camera to capture the TV output). Basically, Crawford pulls a gorgeous crossover on Jason Richardson, totally breaking his ankles (good job there EA), but J Rich miraculously recovers and flies in from nowhere to block the pull-up J. Maybe I should look into better sliders? Anyway, I'm really, really pissed off every time I play the game because of crap like that, plus all the other issues I've mentioned in other threads (not to mention the as-always horrible fast break D if you're running a zone, which I haven't yet brought up). Let's not even get into Live on Live (see my other thread) which is putrid.
So is anyone else still playing because of an addiction to computer basketball games? That's about all the keeps me coming back.

Yeah, I'm having problems with breaking into Live 2005. There are way, way too many blocks. So much more than last year, and half of them are on jumper blocks, and the sliders are on zero!
Fastbreak is terrible. Players just catch the ball and they just stand there for a full second. It's terrible.

You guys need better sliders. I've got the sliders done by PARED.
But I agree with the block shots and fast breaks, you can actually get on the break, but when one player gets the ball, he has to stop and stand to get it, then stands there for like a fraction of a second.

I dont see as many blocks, but thats me
Yea, they do stand around alot

Fast Break Sucks? What game are you playing? I usually throw the ball downcourt, Kobe Jumps and runs in mid air and stuffs.

I think the sliders should help the block situation... check Pareds slider thread over at Operation Sports. You need to adjust a combination of block sliders AND physical defense sliders may take some tinkering to get it how you like it.

Link? TIA.
It's nice to know that I'm not alone.

NOTE TO SELF: Copy my messages before I submit my posts. Dynamic servers are still ****ed up. Sorry for being cranky lately, but I've been frustrated with navigating this site, with Live 2005, and midterms!
Anyway, I'm actually using PARED's sliders and does help, but it doesn't change the horrible passing animations and fastbreak issues. The cool fastbreak where the player jumps and catches it while keeping momentum happens only maybe one out of five times. Other than that, the player jumps from one position to catch the ball and lands by crouching slowly as if he's careful not to fumble the ball. This happens in the post all the time. In fact, if you spend a lot of time in the paint, your player will get pushed as if he's on rollerskates. Back to the passing issue, if I want to swing the ball around the three point line to the open guy in the corner, there's gonna be at least one pass where the player makes an awkward lob where the ball defies gravity and floats in the air to the player who is now guarded so well. wtf, in the real NBA, that player who made that lob pass would be benched for the next twelve games.

Ugh, that's right... the passing tends to be ugly like that.
Also, I must be doing something wrong, but my guys take way too many hook shots when I want them to take a jumper inside 10ft. Stephon Marbury (or any other small guard) taking a hook shot? Give me a break.

I tried the sliders from OS, and it still sucks. However, it is a start. I don't know how anybody can play with those sliders and not have everybody foul out. My own team's AI players had 2-3 fouls each after one half of play (while the CPU's players for some reason did not have it nearly as bad). Sure, it was only one game, but it was very consistently happening.

Yeah, I had that problem too, but I think the key is try not to go for reach-ins as often. And positioning for blocks helps too, to avoid intentional mid-air fouls. After I became more aware of that, fouls don't happen as often, but there's enough fouls and free throws to produce realistic stats; however, a large number of fouls come when somebody is taking a 20 foot jumper and gets fouled. That doesn't happen often in an NBA game.

i am reading this post while installing and you guys are kinda scareing me lol. i am sitting here thinking that i made a mistake in buying this one. i wont judge yet until i play but you guys are not making it sound good lol.

It's good dude. Don't listen to that, everything can be tweaked by sliders, remember?

Don't be afraid! It's actually a lot of fun in "Starter" mode, but it gets old fast. The problem is I don't have enough time to mess with sliders for the perfect game experience because I only get to play every few days as it is.

Not animations

Just out of curiosity, is it kinda pure coincidence that so many shots are missed by the cpu? or are they programmed so by easports to be missed in order to show the new features like tip in and dunk back ? or just for the sake of reality?
Besides there are things that bother me alot like slow pivot movements around the rim when they jump to receive the pass and land slowy like a an old russian cargo plane (as cyanide mentioned above) . that really slows the game down..it is loss of momentum! u think it can be tweaked by patches?
what about some certain freestyle moves that are really really slow ? arent they supposed to be easing your attempt to pass your opponent rapidly or penetrate in to paint? wierd !
while it is possible to use your game pad as mouse inside nhl 2005 and fifa soccer 2005 menus, i wonder why eacanada has not used the same application for nba live? it would really do good!!

I've had that problem too.

after a couple of days of playing let me just toss a few complaints out there. i think all have been said before but whatever so here goes.
1. way to many blocks. even if you have a 3 inch height advantage over the defender he can block your shot constantly. i have never seen so many blocked jump shots in my life. also whats with blocking hook shots? how often does that actually happen.
2. yeah they removed the speed cheat, but what they did was add the fast break delay. so instead of the comp catching up from rocket shoes they catch up from your guys having cement shoes.
3.menus. these need a major overhaul. the menus in this game are crap. i hate how when i try to compare players i only see season stats. i need to see rateings to really compare and i have to do it the hard way now by viewing a single player, then either writing down or remembering his rateings, then go view the other player and compare myself. very annoying.
4. we need to be able to see contract length during the trade screen.
as of now these 4 things are what is annoying me and in that order. maybe i will come across more, maybe not. now overall i love live and it is the best bball game imo. alot might disagree with me but the revamped dynasty helps alot. now the dynasty got along way to go imo but they made a big leap forward this year.
Sat Oct 30, 2004 12:18 pm
Dude, well put. I forgot about the menus... too annoyed with everything else to even get around to that. And not seeing the contract length put me off of Dynasty before I even got to my first All-Star break. Their UI design is WEAK.
I feel like such a hater... this is not good, as I am a big fan of Live, despite the disappointments every year!

Man, you guys make it seem like EA super hyped 2005 only to be just another one in the series..
That probably won't stop me from buying it though, some things like you guys talking about blocked jumpshots don't bother me. I mean, when people say "I get blocked too much" stuff like that, I think I can get around it, because that's really just the way you play. If you go in the paint constantly and get fouled, the CPU team will have lots of fouls. If you go up for tons of Kobe-esque jumpshots, you might get blocked. It's just stuff like that that I have to see to believe, and when I see it, I don't believe it (the way the guy plays).
But this stuff about cement shoes doesn't sound too well... it's like they just reversed the whole thing. I can't believe EA did that, especially since they brought up many times how the speedcheat was removed (therefore making it sound like the fast breaks would be better) but all they did was compensate for it with cement shoes..

2 things here. first for the quote. i am not alone in setting the sliders for cpu blocking(and player in mycase) to 0. even with this i am the comp are both getting between 20-25 blocks a game. yes i play 12 min quarters but everything else is just about right, this is the one thing that is just stupid. centers basicly get a tripple double every game cause of it.
secondly, i dont want to put anyone off on this game as i really do like it. it still has along way to go but its getting better. i just hope we dont have to wait 2-3 more years before another leap forward.

I'm probably the most critical about this game, but I'm starting to like it despite my initial extreme disappointment. There's probably more major flaws this year than last year, but there are some new additions that I can appreciate, like the pro-hop then no look pass. Two things I hate the most: bad animations, particularily the slow passes, slow response time, and slow crossovers, and the blocks are way too excessive, especially jump shots and hookshots. Oh, and can't forget about jumphooks in the paint when you're trying to take a normal jumper, and there's way too many fouls called on jump shooters. Wow, I guess I am right, there's more flaws this year than last year. I sure hope to get used to the cutscene camera flashes. Anyway, I think the GUI design is good because it's easy to navigate and loads instantly, but I have no freaking idea why they would take out some important stat tools such as sort column or view ratings. Incredible!

It's getting better with sliders, but the most pathetic thing just happened. Got a D board, tossed to PG with the "fast break pass" button. He catches it and is called for a backcourt violation. WTF? I had even pointed the controller in the direction of the opposing teams basket so he wouldn't get a backcourt. Earlier in the same game, I'm using a guy off ball to set a pick -- the PG makes a move and is called out of bounds (gotta up the force field I guess). Little things like this are so irritating. Just when it starts to feel like a game, something stupid happens!
