Forum & Site back up and running...sort of

Postby Andrew on Fri Oct 22, 2004 10:48 am

Echoing my announcement from the main page:

The dynamic server is fixed and back online, so we're back in action. Once again, I apologise for the inconvenience and the bad timing, but I assure everyone that it's the last thing I wanted to happen. ;) You may still encounter problems whilst viewing and posting in the forum, but they will hopefully be ironed out soon. For all forum members, I highly recommend that you change your password as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone for your patience, hopefully we won't have any problems like that ever again. If you have any further questions or want to report a problem, please drop me a line.

Perhaps for security reasons, it's just a suggestion. Do it if you want to be safe.

Better safe than sorry they say.

So far when I click the 'view new posts' button 2/3's of the time I get an 'action cancelled' page. Is that just one of the problems being ironed out.

"Cannot Find Server" or "Action Cancelled" are the two most common problems which should be fixed soon. The good news (I use the term lightly) is that the problem is the same for other GameSpy sites, so it's not just a problem with the NLSC. Once the dynamic server is running at full speed again, we should be fine.

The reason the dynamic server was offline is it was subject to a vicious attack that comprimised the security of the whole server. As such, we've been advised that we should change all our passwords and also advise forum members to do the same, so, I am. ;)

Passwords get encrypted in the database, there is no way a hacker can get them.. so why change our passwords :p ? Maybe he can change our email and request passwords, but that isn't really comfortable for his email box

Can't say, except hopefully soon. I've noticed the problems and I'm as annoyed as everyone else, but it's out of my hands.

I don't know if this has been said, but when I try and go onto the Download section, and click on any of the file sections, it just goes to the Download main page.

Thanks.

It's working a lot better now. It was fine for about 5 minutes then as soon as I clicked the button to post that in this thread it gave me 'action cancelled.'

But it only required one refresh.

The forum seems to be running better but the downloads section is still basically inactive. It should be temporary, as I said before there's not much I can do as it's up to Gamespy's technical staff to iron out the bugs. I'm hoping it won't be much longer.
