Not too sure about this, I don't trust Hilary, he says the offense is advanced over the defense, but maybe he's just too good . No really I don't know, the only thing that irked me out of all he said was that the hop-step is too effective, even on the highest difficulty, didn't pay attention to most of the rest, but that's not good.

Anyways, I'll see what Gamespot, Teamxbox, and Operation Sports have to sat, Hilary doesn't phase me..

One thing i'll say about ESPN is that the gameplay is so f!cking stiff it isn't funny. This game could have been good as hell but it is just so damn stiff. Also you can't f!cking sort free-agents by rating, they are all sorted by position and you actually have to scroll through all the SG's to get to the SF's then to the PG's then so forth and so on.

It feels a bit rushed

Both of your statements are untrue...

One thing about Hilary is that when he said the hop-step was too effective he obviously either has his head up his ass or he was playing on rookie. If you hop-step and a defender is right in your way you will lose the ball.

I'm waiting Cima for you to tell me how to sort free-agents...

Just hit either the white button or the left trigger (whichever one sorts by position) until it says all players or whatever.

i own both and all i gotta say about ESPN 2k5 is... NO SHOOTING FOULS. that's right. i played about 6 games and i never went to the line once. inexcusable!

Also, the player models are wack! no necks. and they shoot jump shots really strangely. they release the ball from their wrists. The animations are clunky, and the control is stiff as a board.
and guys like Tmac can dunk at will. Anyone can own you in the post. even declerq.

I urge every live fan to try it though. i bought it cuz it was only 20 bucks.

That's why there's a shooting foul slider.

deluxxe wrote:Also, the player models are wack! no necks. and they shoot jump shots really strangely. they release the ball from their wrists.

I think some people exagerrate it, not bad at all. A minor issue which could easily be solved.

deluxxe wrote:The animations are clunky, and the control is stiff as a board.

The controls aren't that stiff unless you try jerking it from side to side and I'm sorry but nearly every animation in the game is good/great/excellent, it actually looks like a real game with momentum changes.

I played a game with the Rockets against the Pistons and I had a tough time with T-Mac, by no means could I blow past the defender and dunk. I couldn't post up, VERY succesfully, with Cliff Robinson or Troy Murphy as a matter of fact I tried posting Murphy up against 'Sheed and Murphy was being backed out of the key.

sigh... my b-day is coming (10/8) and i'm having a hard time deciding which game to get. espn or live... i really like both games, but i can only get one... i'm still leaning a little bit towards live cause of the slam dunk contest, and because i've been a fan for 6 years.

dude, i know what a slider is. Please don't insult my intelligence. i cranked all the foul sliders and there is NO shooting fouls whatsoever. ok, maybe i've seen 3 called in about 10 games.

I don't know what game you're playing but my game titled ESPN NBA 2k5 has player models with no necks.
Take a look at Kevin Garnett in real life... now go look at his model in teh game and tell me it has a neck. Necks is something they should think about adding next year.

Animations are personal taste. so i won't argue with you there. i think they look clunky. The glitch from controlling the guy to when the animation kicks in is way too noticable. not smooth at all. Not to mention that you have no control over them once they start.

I'm not even very good at the game and i was able to crossover and turbo into the lane with TMac about 4 possessions in a row on All Star.

These are just a few things that i've noticed so far. there are many more. i'm not saying it's a terrible game. There are also many good things about it.i just don't like it as much as Live. and those are some of my reasons.

Must've missed out on the "Create-A-Shoe" feature, which is arguably better than Live's stock of Air Jordans.

In my opinion, the overall player models are still better in ESPN. The faces are top notch, along with the variety of body structure. There's way too many players in Live who look skinnier than they really are. You can't tell the difference between the player model used in Tayshaun Prince to the one for Ron Artest.

Well I guess you are good at the game. Either that, or you're exaggerating. Which one?

neither.
dude, just admit it. it's too easy to score inside in 2k5. it's a fact. If it's not that big of a deal to you than that's good for you.

personally i don't care if Tayshaun Princes model looks too much like Ron Artest. I care more about gameplay and stats.

and this year, i think Live is better at those 2 things.

ESPN has better graphics overall for sure. Even without necks. I don't deny that. It jsut doesn't make a difference to me.

I own both. I just happen to like Live more. Can't i just like Live more??

You don't see Shaq making progress towards the basket? Or is it because it's not like Live where you can back someone down with ease (I'm judging off of '04 and I'm not bashing Live)?

I don't remember insulting your intelligence, maybe you're too sensitive. I play with shooting sliders up all the way and I get a reasonable amount, I'll play a game later and take a picture with my digital camera so I may show you.

Like GG said, you're either pretty good or you're exaggerating because I've yet to be able to get in the lane with as much ease as you.

by implying that i don't know how to use a slider in a bball game. To me, that's insulting. I think the sensitive people here are the ones defending a few minor problems with 2k5.

I just played a game with 8 minute quarters on all star mode as the Suns vs the 6ers. Marion finished with 42 points. about half of those were dunks driving from the 3 point line. it's way too easy. That being said, i'm gonna try moving up a difficulty level and see if that helps.

ya, post a digi pic. i'd like to see how many shooting fouls you get in a game. maybe my playing style jsut doesn't draw fouls? although i would think driving and dunking is bound to draw a fair amount.
