Shoe "mismatch" colorways - 'retexturing' thing

Postby Doctor Kicks on Sun Apr 05, 2020 5:19 pm

Is there any available related tutorial on how to make this possible? the mismatch colorways, I saw somebody did the Zoom Freak 1 Multicolor and I believe he did it via some sort of 'retexturing' using photoshop I think? or correct me if I am wrong.

I want to give a try to the freak multicolor and watching other shoe mods with mismatched colorways (some Kobe 10), I think you need to make a shoe_ng_xxxx.iff file that includes the following files: shoe_color and shoe_color_r (one for each foot), shoe_normal (the golden solid texture), shoe_psysics and shoe_psysics_r (also one for each foot, the red texture).
When I finish what I'm doing right now, I'm gonna try the Zoom Freak Multicolor.

huge news!,
if u get onto it,if it's not too much to ask, is it possible for u to create a demo of the process or some sort of tutorial for making one? I guess there are people like me who are eager to make one because u know, it seems 2k won't be making those cool mismatch colorways in the long run.

Anyway, keep up the good work man! and thank you! (Y)

It worked...
If you know a little about Photoshop it should be easy. What I did, I took the shoe_ed file of the Freak shoe, put all the dds files inside that .iff on Photoshop, then all those layers went to one unique .psd file and then I sorted the layers inside the file to make the texture. You have to do one texture for each foot... the shoe_color_r is the texture of the right foot, with colors and/or logos reversed. You have to save both textures as .dds with the settings that are in my little thread.
I took the shoe_ng_1156.iff (original Zoom Freak) and added the shoe_color and shoe_color_r dds files (plus the corresponding TXTR files) from the shoe_ng_1157 (Zoom Freak PE).
Finally, I added shoe_ng_1156.iff and shoe_style_1156.iff to waigua folder and renamed the files using an ID of a shoe that only has one model (I used the Lebron 16 PE). That's because prior to that, I used a shoe with more colour options and it showed a Freak shoe with the wrong colors.
That's all.

a shoe is consisted of a texture and model. the model includes the texture mapping of the shoe. so you need the model to identify the parts in the texture. for instance the bottom left part is the sole of the shoe. the main part is formed of connected meshes. if you flip that part you can see that the left side is the outer side of shoe while right side is the inner side. the middle part is upside of the shoe (laces). check out shoe tutorials for 2k20 or previous games.

I would advise you to work on a different psd and save it as the dds with required format.

hmm first and foremost I am new when it comes to creating a texture, I use photoshop for a living but this one is a bit tricky for a newbie, so I apologize if I'm stubborn,

I mean I know the parts, outsole, midsole, lace, lining, tongue, toe, heel etc etc...i can identify those parts, what i wanna know is how will i change the color of those parts, i mean like for instance the freak 1 multicolor, the midsole of the left pair for instance, is some sort of a navy blue, if i will use the zoom freak 1 PE as the base, how will i change that part into navy blue, because if i open up(in photoshop) the dds files the 'shoe_normal'(left foot) and the 'shoe_normal_r'(right foot), it shows up as a flattened image or single layer in one, as it looks in my attached screencapture. and for another example the main body for the left foot pair is color green, and so for the other parts, how will I recolor those?

And another thing, I think there is no particular shoe modding tutorial for nba 2k like the ones for cyberfaces and jerseys. ive been grinding on the internet to search for tutorials but i cant find one. and Thank you by the way (Y)

I'm an idiot. When I said that I used the files from 1157 I forgot to mention that I replace both dds with the textures I did in Photoshop, I didn't use the Freak's PE ones.
I did say that I used the shoe_ed to make the texture, and that makes everything easier because it has every part of the shoe in a different dds file. So you have to open all those files in Photoshop, put them all on a new file, sort the layers and use reliable Color Overlay and save the texture as a dds.
I think that is all that's needed to be known to make some new shoes. Unless you want to make a completely new shoe, I think that involves blender and I don't know much about it.

Well you don't need to find a 2k specific tutorial. Any kind of shoe tutorial can help you, at least on editing the layers. NBA Live series or FIFA series had shoe tutorials IIRC.

okay so, I got the shoe_ed_1156 and edited it on paint.net since i cannot open it on photoshop and gimp even if I have the dds plug-ins installed, i dont know why..it opens but it only shows black square as in totally black thing not like when i open it on paint.net it looks fine..so here it is, my first ever try on recoloring the layers using the shoe_ed_1156.iff... i just wanna know if im on the right track?

Don't know Paint.net but I believe controls should be similar.
1 - Select all of the object with Ctrl+A and copy (Ctrl+C).
2 - Paste it (Ctrl+V) on Photoshop, on the dds file you opened.
3 - Save the DDS file with same name.

so for this is case the zoom freak 1,
1. extract the shoe_ed_1156 and shoe_ng_1157 from arhcive 2U
2. extract all the dds layers of the shoe_ed_1156 and open them up using any photo editor (in my case paint.net because i have problems opening dds on photoshop)
3. recolor the layers and copy and then paste the layers to a dds that I can open on photoshop with black thing
4. merge the layers into one and;
5. save with the proper settings
alright, it this correct?
if so, then what should I do next after? assuming that I have done the other pair with a different color set. Again, sorry for being stubborn guys. Pardon me :(

I wish somebody out there gonna make atleast a basic tutorial for shoe modding in 2k(atleast a short demo, even without explanation or voice guide can do as long as things are clearly pointed out throughout the demo) I know im stubborn, but with clear facts and a systematic instruction I believe I can manage to learn the basics coz im having a hard time building up the puzzle for a total newbie like me. Like what TGsoGood did for the cf basics tuts on youtube, many enthusiasts learned how to make CFs. because there is a reliable resource tutorial. but when it comes to shoe modding there aren’t so many who creates so being a shoe fanatic I wanna contribute by creating awesome shoe colorways. Anyway, this is just my opinion, everybody has different opinions and I respect that.

That's essentially correct.
1. You also have to extract shoe_ed_1156 and shoe_style_1156 in this case.
4. You don't need to merge the layers, if you save the file as a dds, it does it automatically.
**Maybe the photoshop black thing is because you have to untick the "Load transparency as Alpha channel" option. Still, my texture doesn't have any transparency at the end (look at my KAT one in the other thread as an example).
After everything is done:
a. You take shoe_color.dds, shoe_color.TXTR, shoe_color_r.dds and shoe_color_r.TXTR from ng_1157 and put them in ng_1156 (the dds files have a lot of numbers and letters in his filename).
b. You rename your left shoe texture as shoe_color.dds (should be shoe_color.2a94e7181a66dd96.dds) and your right shoe as shoe_color_r.dds (shoe_color_r.7ec82856982b1613.dds).
c. You put those two textures inside the ng_1156.iff and replace the files. Then put the modded shoe_ng_1156.iff plus shoe_style_1156.iff in the "shoes" folder inside waigua.
d. Change the number of the files, using the ID of a shoe that only has one colorway ingame (when editing a player's shoe, using the colorway option is gonna show the shoe in color; the other ones appear in black and white). Then, the Freak Multicolor should appear when you choose that shoe in colorway mode.

Okay so here it is, done recoloring the layers using photoshop, so the in this screenshot(1st pic), shall put all the things from the right to the shoe_ng_1156.iff as u have instructed, am I right? and then finally put that modified shoe_ng_1156.iff AND shoe_style_1156.iff to waigua\shoes

I'm a little bit confused on the last part. instruction D... how will I know which existing shoes have this and that ID and that it has only one colorway ingame?Like for instance the hook script by Looyh can determine the cfid/photo id of a player.

so basically I will not replace the original PE which is the 1157 or the "Coming To America" colorway? instead I will replace another one? is it not possible like what kicksology did like he was adding a new slot for that particular modified/created colorway?

Man, thank you for letting me learn this thing man, thank you thank you... I know I am that very close to achieving this, ive been trying hard to get this thing done for the whole week and it's already close, i know it's close...so thank you man, id be glad to be able to learn this thing when it's done and successful because this will be my 1st ever mod... :bowdown2:

okay so i dont understand what i did wrong or if there is something i missed...in this case i did not change the id because basically i dont know who is who..i mean i dnt have a shoe id lookup trick or some kind of to rely on...and so i dont know what id should i rename the files...and so it goes like this in game

About your posts:
1. It looks pretty good.
2. I don't know if you can add a colorway for a shoe with two different colors. And I didn't use the 1157 id because the shoe doesn't appear ingame. And I would also love to know the things kicksology does and learn if It's possible to change the preview pictures of the shoes I edited with the shoe creator.
3. Probably that happens because I think the colors of the original freak colorways override your work.

The following are the IDs that have only one colorway (I think):
Kobe V Protro PE (1054)
Kobe 11 Elite 4.13 (240)
Lebron 16 PE (1900)
Lebron 16 BHM (1147)
D.O.N. Issue #1 PE (2060)

ahh. So;
1. Basically there is no shoe_color and shoe_color_r on the shoe_ng_1156 is that correct? and i should just put the two shoe_color i made into that shoe_ng?

2. I think it can be done, just the proper technique to determine the id of the created shoes from the shoe creator. using the shoe_fe iff files. By the way how are did u manage to determine the ids of those shoe? I dont know how to determine the id and so i cant make the curry 7 sour patch mismatched and the hyperdunk X which nurkic wore also mismatched. i dnt know the files to extract and edit because i dnt know the shoe ids of those two shoe models

3. so I must use strictly a single colored shoe ingame like don 1 pe?

hmm..seems like im gonna have some trouble for the Curry 7 Sour Patch Kids mismatched...there is no shoe_ng_4036 in the default archive and same with kicksology's mods... only the shoe_ed_4036 is there to begin with...actually Im done recoloring the layers using the existing shoe_ed...but im running into problems and Im stuck on the process so how am I supposed to make this work.

Good work!!!
And about the Curry ones, I think the files are inside the sync file, but there are not inside a shoe_ed or ng... there are all spread out inside the .BIN, so esentially you would have to look for every file one by one and see what files match the Curry 7.
