Low post scoring help? plz

Postby deluxxe on Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:08 am

is anyone else having a heck of a time scoring in the post? man, i'm just gettin destroyed. i can't hit anything. even wide open cripples i'm missing with decent low post players. Drop step, shot fakes, freestlye moves... you name it. nothing seems to work for me.
Has anyone got a handle on this part of the game? care to share your strategies?

btw, i play on all star but i think i may have to back it off to starter. this year seems A LOT harder than previous years.

I've been playing on allstar and havent had too much problems with the low post scoring. When i really need a bucket or a quick score i usually go down low with Chris Bosh or Donyell Marshall.

As for tips, if your player is a decent shooter, like Donyell Marshall, i usually back the player down a bit then do a turn around 5 foot jump shot. That works pretty good. You can use different types of fakes, the new fake that they added i think its the Y button for the XBOX. You can also use the normal jump shot pump fake. With Chris Bosh i like to back the player down and then shoot a quick hook shot, they work pretty good too. But before you do any of these moves, pass it into the post then call the "Isolation" play. It will create alot more room for your player to work with, then if you get doubled you can kick it out for the 3 or call the play "Basket Cut" and get someone to cut to the net.

thanks for the tips.
i think maybe one of my biggest problems is that i play as Seattle and they really don't have much of a low post threat.
Potapenko even misses post shots in practice mode with no one guarding him.
i tried playing as TO and i wasn't havin any luck with Bosh. I must be releasing at the wrong spot of the shot or something. Weird thing is i have no problem hitting regular jump shots.

I figured out a good move(s) in the post. If you back a guy down and do a drop step/fake or whatever, then hit the dunk/layup button after the fake, you usually get a pretty good shot, dunk or layup, but I also have my drop step effectiveness up pretty high, that's just because I couldnt score real well taking turn around jumpers.

Use the pro hop button in the post if your guy is a post player. If you're Shaq, watch those ants fall down, leaving you wide open for a dunk! (fun stuff!!)

Since I use the Miami Heat frequently, around 60~80% of my shots come from the post.

I also play all star. I lost 5 or 6 straight games... very close close games...

CPU shoots lots of quick jump shots.. Use Zone Defense time to time and try not to move around too much. Just toggle with the analog to move around with L1.

For offense, use screen often, and quick move from using triple treat free style... go for quick jump shots or give it to big man...

Use the space. unlike 2004, you can DO alot of cuts with OFF ball stuff.

have fun all.

I love this game

yep its difficult to score down low. I usually play the Lakers and Bobcats. Divaca and bRezec could hit the open jumper from the perimeter. i noticed that the illegal defense is not called at all.

Practice more... With a lil more practice you'll be able to make some shoot with your post player.

you can also string moves to do the dreamshake with good post players and guards like kobe and tmac.

start with your player facing up the defender. then move your right analog to the left so that your players back is partialy facing the defender. then move your left analog stick to the right so that your players spins off the defender. then right when the spin animation is about to end. let go of the left analog stick and press the pro hop button. you should see your player do the shake and bake. then press the layup/dunk or shoot button depending on where you are on the floor, and whalla there you have the hakeem dreamshake... the reason why you don't press the left analog in a direction while pressing the pro-hop is because youll go into a drop step motion. when you press the pro-hop by itself it does the fake left, fake right motion... now you can travel too like the great hakeem himself. notice hakeem got away with it all the time because the refs were to busy looking for contact from his defender then watching his feet.

here some more post combinations.

note all these moves start without the dribble. so if you've already picked up your dribble it wont work.

start with your player facing up the defender. then move your right analog to the left so that your players back is partialy facing the defender. then move your left analog stick to the right so that your players spins off the defender. then right when the spin animation ends. press forward on the right analog stick while pressing the left analog stick forward as well. then end it with the layup/dunk button.

start with your player facing up the defender. then move your right analog to the left so that your players back is partialy facing the defender. then move your left analog stick to the right so that your players spins off the defender. then right when the spin animation ends. let go of the left analog stick and press the pro hop button. you should see your player do the shake and bake. immediatly after that animation ends tap up on your right analog. followed by the shoot button (which youll do a hook) a half a second later.

start with your player facing up the defender. then move your right analog to the left so that your players back is partialy facing the defender. then move your left analog stick to the right so that your players spins off the defender. then tape down on the right analog. followed by pressing the right analog to the right . then head torwards the basket or whatever shot you want.
