Got NBA Live last night

Postby SA37 on Wed Sep 29, 2004 4:58 pm

Hey guys,

I was lucky enough to have my EB give out NBA Live to those who pre-ordered it last night. (Xbox)

All I can say is WOW.

I am blown away. It is better than I expected. It is very, very realistic.

The only thing I have noticed being a problem is that in the two games I played, the point guards of those teams took 20 shots in those games. One was the Lakers (Atkins) and the other was Houston (Lue). Also, at the end of my second game the Rockets didn't call timeout to adance the ball even though they were down 3 with 4 seconds left

The blocks are a little high, so you'll need to adjust the sliders some for that.

The shooting percentages are right on. In the two games I shot 45% and the comp shot 39% in my game against the Lakers and 43% as the Rockets.

12 minute quarters might be a bit long. I used subs and everything ( no starter more than 35 minutes) and I had a final score of 118-115 against the Rockets. In 8 minute quarters with no fatigue and only starters, I had a final score of 82-71 against the Lakers. So, 10 minute quarters seem like they would have realistic numbers, but I am trying to get it so I can play 12 minute quarters. And for those of you wondering, I played it on All-star level.

You guys will love it. I don't think anyone will be disappointed. If anyone has any questions I will be glad to answer them.

cool

can you confirm this: perimeter blocked shots have been eliminated

and also EA said they have added the mid range game, how much of the mid range game is in 05. 04 it was like 10% mid range and about 45% each for inside and outside. What would you say are the percentages now.

Thx

Still a lot of perimeter blocks, maybe the sliders will take care of that.

Damn, I was hoping they would fix that for live 05. They do this all the time in 04.

It's called "sliders". Chill out. I've played about 4 games and I don't seem to have that problem, could it be shot selection maybe. It's always the games fault--not the user right :?:

Geez, play the freakin game first.Make up your own mind.

I think this is the most realistic gameplay Live has ever had. The movement on the court is just realistic. The only thing I really dont like about the game is the shots. Everybody shoots with their legs kicked out or something. When I was on a fastbreak, it was so real. I'm happy Live finally got everything straight. I'm going to wait a little while before I start a dynasty. So far, I've been losing to the computer, but it was like that when Live 04 came out. When I get use to the game, I know I will be real good. When you look at the player faces, they look real

In normal game when you shot, for example, a 3 pointer there is an automatic shot, or you can release a button when you want (in 2004 it would be sucj stupid shot  ) ?

I got my game last too. It really kicks ass. It took me a few games to get used to it since the gameplay and spacing is alot different. I can pass cross court with the comp stealing the ball.

I tried the dunk comp practice. The dunk is easy to get used to but the alley oops are hard as hell.

Anyway back to the game. (I brought it to my office so we could have a 3 point shootout.

Matt,

No, there are still perimeter blocks, especially when there is a PF or C near a guard who is shooting.

I am trying to use the sliders to fix this.

Agreed. I thought Lue was so overrated in last year's version since he's so quick, he kept scoring on me. I wish they reduced the point guards shot attempts, but apparently not. Hopefully sliders might reduce that a bit somehow.

would primacy affect how shots a PG takes?

probably not, cuzz it only affects how many touches right? since the PG always has the ball it wouldn't do much good.

It should affect the amount of shots, but Lue's primacy is 10 and he still shot 20 shots

Anyway, overall the game is amazing and they have less kinks to work out for next years.

And nothing bothers me this year so much, as opposed to last year.

I have had only 1 game shooting over 45% up to this point with Miami. That is great. That is what has amazed me -- the shooting percentages.

I tried playing a 12 min per qtr game, but the scores get into the 115-125 range too often, so I have to play 9-10 minute quarters to get the scores right.

I personally really don't understand people that talk about perimeter blocks. I mean, if you're open, and you shoot, you're not going to get blocked are you? If someone's right on your heels, they can probably block it, right? Maybe you can pull it off if you fade, but hardly anybody does that at the 3 point line, maybe Kobe? A perimeter block is a perimeter block, either his hand touches the ball or it doesn't, I doubt the sliders will let the ball clip through the hand.
