there's no offline roster file. So even if he downloaded the files, your v1 roster doesnt show up.

Thanks for clearing that up! I didn't realize the v1 are (Duh!) from when the servers were still active.
So the old roster file isn't to be downloaded somewhere at all ?

Thanks again - appreciate it (Y)

Better to wait for v2 anyway, trust me.

I'm worried they are going to take 2k17 off of steam before another deal comes up (2k16 is already removed). I really want to try this roster when it is released, but I don't want to pay full price for a two year old game. I still believe 2k17 was my favorite gameplay experience on current gen so far.

If they take it off Steam, couldn't you still get it?

I bought 2K11 for the PC on Amazon (after purchase they sent me the download link)

I mean technically yes. Not too many "official" places are still selling it. I also got a 2k11 download code from Amazon. I wonder if they removed 2k15 and 2k16 at similar times from Steam. I don't mean to go off topic, so sorry if I am cluttering this thread.

Not cluttering it up at all. it's a legit question for people who want to use roster mods for 2K17 still.

That team looks fun as hell. Good work!

Thanks all!

I went through the available team slots, and I have 5 more euro teams I can overwrite, and 5 more current teams (Jazz, Raptors, Hornets, Magic and Timberwolves).

So for V2, 40 new classic teams with be present. But if I get the motivation to make a V3, it could include an additional 5-10 teams.

I don't want anybody to get hopes up though, this is exhausting. The lack of player DNA ability, and with no REDMC like program, and the need to make portraits (over 400 have been made for this roster and counting), it's just a lot of work.

I counted the number of files in the modded folder, and it's about 1500, with an additional 400 in the clothing resource folder. It's a ton of content.

2K19 DNA is really something that miss on older 2K of this gen.

Some ideas for teams empty slots with most of the players availables
'09 Magic
'14 Spurs
'79 Bullets

IF I add more teams in a V3. It would probably be:

85-86 76ers - Barkley, Erving, Moses, Toney, McAdoo
08-09 Magic - Howard, Turkoglu, Lewis
90-91 Jazz - Malone, Stockton, Eaton
00-01 Mavericks - Dirk, Nash, Finley (Yes, one more Dirk team)
92-93 Nets - Coleman, and this is by request
09-10 Raptors - Bosh, rookie Derozan
13-14 Spurs - Duncan, Leonard, Parker, Ginobili

Its not about having most of the players, its the fact that EVERY player needs to be created from top to bottom stats wise, and portrait wise. And I don't like taking shortcuts on players, so signature shots are incredibly important for the 13th man or the stars, same with attributes etc. One good thing about not having player DNA is that shortcuts can't really be encouraged. One thing I have noticed with player DNA, is that some have been using the player DNA feature to copy from one player to another, and than not changing the player after the DNA copy. So someone could be creating Tony Battie, and copying the DNA from John Henson, and the player would basically be John Henson with Tony Batties face and vitals.

For some this is fine, as appearances look right on the floor with the CF, courts, and whatnot. But this roster is not like that. By the way, not a knock on any other rosters or retro rosters, its just the honest truth. This stuff is incredibly time consuming, so I understand why some people approach rosters that way.

huge attention to detail, it should take a lot of time.
Playbook are also important in 2K (and coaches at least on 2K18/9), it changes how CPU runs game against you.
And defaults playbooks are awful. Playing against 94 Magic with Shaq waiting outside like C.Bosh.

This V3 sounds like the definitive version :o

I don't want anybody thinking about a V3 at the moment, it's not guaranteed.

Having 40 new classic teams should be enough content for people to sink teeth into, and will be a lot of fun. Lets just focus on that.

As someone who has been making historic rosters on Xbox for the past few games, Player DNA has been a blessing. Using player lookalikes for role players is almost a necessity on console if you want to make multiple rosters. Back on 2k14 I made a couple rosters where I had to make a ton of players from scratch and just assign them the proper cyberface and portrait (so probably only around 25% of the work you are doing for this). I get requests all the time to make a certain roster and I don't think people who don't work on rosters understand the grind (fun, but tedious) that goes into making authentic rosters. The main reason I started making my own rosters on Xbox is because all the top downloaded ones were always half-assed.

Each portrait takes roughly an hour to make, sometimes more. There are over 400 in this mod. Obviously some were taken from the game files, but the portraits IN the modded folder is 400+, the ones taken from the game were just assigned.

The logos don't take long. I convert/make the majority of the courts. If it's a one texture court, it takes like 15-20 minutes, if I have to piece the entire court together, it takes an hour and sometimes more. There are over 50 custom courts in this mod.

Making the 3D uniforms with accurate numbers for the star players takes time as well, all the new teams have correct 3D uniforms, and all the default classic teams uniforms and 3D uniforms were touched up by PeacemanNOT (Thank you!), and all the 3D uniforms and game uniforms are accurate for all 40 classic teams. That takes time.

Each team has an accurate head coach (lookalike or real), this includes coaches name. That takes time as it's mostly done in cheat engine.

No "Name changing" issues when you exit and re-enter the roster, as names via cheat engine were added to the games name bank. This took quite awhile, because a lot of names were missing from the name bank.

Accessory colors were changed for the teams that needed it, this includes the headband. This will be included in the release, and took quite a bit of time to figure out and implement in cheat engine (Only works with the October.exe or before)

All arenas are named properly via cheat engine, this is time consuming, but was made easier because of an amazing cheat table made by carolusxci.

I created stadiums for teams that were lacking a stadium. The stadiums are not 100% accurate, but the seating color, stanchions, jumbotron colors and logos, banners, door logo, no slip mat etc have been updated to include the correct team logo and team colors.

The team color schemes (Think scoreboard and jumbotron advertising) were made accurate via cheat engine, this took quite awhile to figure out as well. All of the euro teams had incorrect color schemes (For example, The 66-67 Warriors showed up as green on the scoreboard before the change).

Stats have been removed from the players of the new classic teams, giving the roster a more authentic feel, as opposed to having random stats assigned to the players.

Size-ups/player DNA was assigned to players throughout the league for an authentic experience. Once again, done through cheat engine.

The correct dunk packages were assigned to the players who warranted them via Limnonos Modifier.

I've shown some of them on here, but I have made cyberfaces for a bunch of the missing players, and made tweaks to others. I have fixed 50+ skinny body types, there are virtually none left in the roster. This takes time. Cyberface wise, I have converted probably 30+ cyberfaces from 2K18. Examples include: Scot Pollard, Rasho Nesterovic, Brent Barry, Gerald Wallace, etc). Examples of body edits include Eddie House, Luther Head, Gary Payton, etc.

Unlocked teams via cheat engine, and brought the euro team rosters to 13. The process of figuring that out sucked.

This is all work that can't be done on console, and is incredibly time consuming. All of that doesn't even include doing the players vitals, badges, attributes, tendencies, hot zones, signatures, etc. Going into 2Ku and making sure the shot looks accurate, watching the players game film to make sure the signatures look right, etc. That process alone takes probably 5+ hours per team when done right. When I was doing the Wizards, I timed myself, and I think it took me between 4 and 5 hours just for that portion of it.

Your work on console is admirable considering you are working with much less in the form of accuracy, but I can't even describe the amount of time the extra items above take in the grand scheme of things. And, it's not just for the new classic teams in the roster, it's filling all of the current default classic teams accurately. As you know, so many players are missing (Replaced with fakes), so whether the player was in the games files and needed to be assigned, or I had to make a face or choose a great lookalike, those players are also accurate. This includes a lot more portraits that were created, and again, the attributes/tendencies/signatures/vitals etc for the players.

My brother and I do this roster together. Here is the work breakdown:

Note: This doesn't include names like PeacemanNOT that helped with V1, this is just a breakdown of my brother and my responsibilities.

Portraits: Mostly bigticket0521 (My brother)
Cyberfaces: Me
Cheat Engine: 50-50 between me and bigticket0521
Logos: Me
Player creation: 50-50 between me and bigticket0521
Courts: Me
Body edits: Me
Signatures: 50-50 between me and bigticket0521
Stadiums: Me
Jersey creation: Mostly bigticket0521
3D uniform creation: Mostly bigticket0521
Jersey and 3D uniform assignment: Mostly me
Presentation: Me

The good thing is: My brother and I have LIVED basketball, so he knows his stuff. We work really well together and both care a lot about accuracy. He is also very good in Paint.net, and makes amazing portraits. When he does that, it gives me more time to create courts, faces, and other aspects to increase the accuracy.

It's nuts how much work goes into doing this right.... REDMC was player DNA on steroids, it was incredibly easy to copy a player onto another in one area, many, or all. The lack of RED MC and Player DNA, and the lack of help (No offense to ANYBODY on NLSC, partly because I didn't ask a lot for it) is just a huge time killer. It's worth it in the end, but just remember that the roughly 1900 files in the modded folder didn't get there by accident. Ha.

I have major respect for anyone willing to put in the work on a project like this. Like I said, my “modding” experience was using CF trainer and assigning CFs and portraits to my created players on my retro rosters. I hope to one day have the time and skill to contribute to the PC community in this way. These type of projects deserve all the praise and patience they need. I can’t wait until next month when I’ll have a PC and can get in and start playing around with roster building

It's a lot of fun. Like I've said before, I can never go back to console.

Hopefully if Live 20 comes to PC, that we have a huge wave of people jump on it and mod the game.

You must have Cheat Engine 6.0 and you must be using the October 12th.exe or earlier. That's the only way it works.

You need to find the teams main location, and find the array of bytes that corresponds with the accessories, and copy it from one team to another. I will not be making a tutorial on this any time soon. But it's a ton of trial and error.

I bought both Live 18 and 19 when they were super cheap. There is almost no offline content for those games, and more importantly, no retro content outside of ultimate team. They have the rights to the most legends they’ve ever had, but they are locked behind the online ultimate team mode. Create a player and roster editing is also miles behind 2k. Unless Live puts more effort into retro, only mods could save that game for me.

The 40th team will be the 92-93 Nets.

Coleman, Anderson, Bowie, and the last year of Bernard King. This was a request that I agreed with.

I am crossing my fingers that the court will be fairly easy to put together, and I have to make the jerseys. But, this team would be a lot of fun.
