In game music mods?

Fri Dec 14, 2018 4:45 pm

Is it possible to replace the in-game music and if so is there a mod that does this already?
What I'm referring to is the stadium music played during games.

Re: In game music mods?

In short, yes it is possible but it's an incredibly tedious process, which is why there aren't very many audio mods (if any).

You'll have to open up File Explorer and look for the audio files within the folders. For example, if you're looking for the music that comes out of the stadium PA speakers during a timeout/beginning of game/quarter/etc, you'll find an example track here:

3A > newaudio/eventmusic/003536-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav

Note that this is just one of the .wav files of the stadium music, so the others will be before or after this particular file.

As far as I know, the VLC plugin within the File Explorer is unable to play this type of file, so you'll have to export the track and use Audacity to import, play, and replace the track you want. Once you have a replacement track that you want to use instead of the one in-game, you'll want to make sure it's in the same format, which is the following: Stereo, 48,000Hz, 16-bit PCM

Once the replacement track has the correct format, just rename the file to the name of the in-game track (such as 003536-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000.wav) and use the NBA 2k File Explorer program to import the track by doing the following:

- Load the correct archive (in this case, it's 3A)

- Use the search bar to locate the file you'd like to replace

- Right click the file > Import Archive (then choose your replacement track)

*** Note: This step may take a while to finish depending on the size of the track.

- After the replacement track has been loaded, click File > Apply Changes

- Rinse & Repeat

It's important to remember that you must import the files one by one and click File > Apply Changes after EACH track is imported. To my knowledge, there isn't a way to batch import a group of audio files into NBA Explorer without the program crashing. This is the reason why I say it's an incredibly tedious process.

HOWEVER, if anyone else would like to help create a music/audio mod, let me know and we'll figure out a way to make this possible. I've modded some of the stadium files for the Utah Jazz just to test this out. I chose the Jazz because they have very distinct stadium sounds in real life that have been around forever (since at least the 90's) and have always wondered why they weren't in the NBA 2k series. Well, it turns out they do have true-to-life stadium sounds, but they're buried among other nonsense sounds no team uses in real life. As I understand it, this is why a lot of teams' stadium audio is not correct. Also, I found out that all teams have separate audio tracks for Regular Season and for Playoffs, which makes it all the more confusing to identify the track in File Explorer, match it with the correct team, find out if it's for Regular Season or Playoffs, then make the corresponding changes.

I hope this helps.

I’ve been wondering this with the NCAA mod would be cool to change the stauidum music to college bands and stuff like that

You can use the 2k explorer to manipulate the organs and the defense chants as well. It usually starts with ...eventmusic and a number. They all go down by order based on city names A-Z. If you want, I can attach a video with the modded soundtrack.

Thanks guys, this is all useful. I just want to get a few recognisable ditties and samples in there to replace the ones in the game. Real music clips would be good for the intro and breaks as well.
I'm just coming to NBA2K after years of not playing it at all. I'm shocked at how good it's gotten. Still exploring all the mods. I just want a good roster to start and some TV overlays.

I don't know if it is possible in the 2k19, in 2k18 I tried but the music was no sound.
I made a tutorial in the 2k18 about replacing the musics of arenas, in the NBA 2k19 it should be the same, if you are interested...

I have tried every way I can think of but all I get is silence in game. I followed the tutorial from last year and I can't get it to work. Sucks too, I found where the pre game and halftime music is and I was going to take the ESPN music and we could have a complete broadcast package with the scoreboards and transition wipes. If anyone can figure it out the files for pre game and halftime are in 3A and they are the newmusic loading sequence tracks.

I took a brief look at this as well some files wont work for me and others have worked. I tried to change the music from the playlist in the game and got silence too.

Well I figured it out. 50th time was a charm lol. As you can see in the video I changed the music of the pre game to the Raptors on TSN theme music. What I thought was halftime was not but I now know what i'm looking for. Once I get halftime figured out I plan on making a Fox, NBC and ESPN musoc mod. Maybe someone will make a TSN scoreboard because I have a great watermark and wipe done already.

This is really dope, I wish we could figure out how to change their table and those triangles in the background. I also have some wipes done for Spectrum Sportsnet, AT&T Sportsnet, YES, and MSG if anyone even makes scoreboards for them.

I followed more what mar mar said in his post than the tutorial video in the 2k18 thread. To be honest I’m not really sure why it worked this time The 2 things I did different the time it worked was I saved the raptors music file as 48000 16 bit wav file before I exported it as a ogg vile. When I imported it into NBA explorer I made sure I used the drop down box and changed it from .iff to .ogg. That last part i don’t see why it would make a difference as i believe it’s a search function but regardless after 50 tries it works so I’ll be doing it every time lol.

Here’s exactly what I did:

-Raptors on TSN .mp3 saved to desktop

-open Audacity

-drag Raptors on TSN.mo3 to Audacity

-save Raptors on TSN.mp3 to desktop as .wav 48000 16pcm

-closed the Raptors on TSN file on Audacity.

-dragged the Raptors on TSN.wav file from desktop to Audacity. Note: the file will say it’s 48000 32 pcm in Audacity. I googled why that is and apparently it’s actually 16pcm just a glitch with Audacity.

-I now export it as .ogg to desktop and it saves as Raptors on TSN.ogg

-Close Audacity

-open NBA 2k explorer and click on preferences and the “tick” 3A. Then load archive.

-scroll down till I find newmusic/loadingsequence000000-000000-000000(not in front of cpu and can’t remember exactly the amount of zeros)

-I copied on note pad just the number sequence so for the first 1 it’s 000000-000000-000000(again not sure exactly the amount of zeros) copy exactly the numbers are from NBA explorer.

-right click on the Raptors on TSN.ogg and rename to the numbers you copied to notepad. Make sure you add .wav to the end. It gives a warning about changing extensions but just hit ok.

-Right click the newmusic/loadingsequence000000-000000-000000 in NBA explorer and select import.

-in the pop up window make sure you are in the desktop folder. On the bottom right there’s a drop down box that says .iff I changed that to .ogg. In the search field start typing 0000 and the Raptors on TSN.wav file you saved as 000000-000000-00000.wav will show up and select it. the way you know it imported is it will start playing in the bottom right corner of explorer.

-then in explorer I selected file>apply changes. Let it do its thing. It will load 3A again once it’s finished.

-I then scrolled down till I found newmusic/loadingsequence000001-000000-000000.

-on the desktop I right click on the 000000-000000-000000 I just imported and change name from 000000-000000-000000 to 000001-000000-000000.

-then in NBA explorer I right click on newmusic/loadingsequence000001-000000-000000 and import again making sure I change .iff dropdown to .ogg and type 0000 in search field and select 000001-000000-000000. Again it will play in the bottom right corner of explorer once it imports.

-make sure and select file>apply changes again. Once it loads 3A repeat steps until you have replaced all the newmusic/loadingsequence000000-000000-000000 files. They start at newmusic/loadingsequence000000-000000-000000 and end at newmusic/loadingsequence000009-000000-000000.

That was it. It then worked in game for me.

Thanks, I was able to get some to work but for some reason some wouldn't, gonna try your exact method.

In which archive we can find this pgxx.iff file? I'm interested in taking a look on it to see what I can do to edit studio environments

They are in the 2U archive, I went through and extracted all of the pgXXX.iff files and looked through them. I have an idea of what most of them are.

Code:
pg012 - Coach/Agent Office?

So the studio where Ernie, Shaq, and Kenny talk is pg034.iff. Im not sure where the other environment is where they are sitting in front of whatever arena that is going to be played in. But I went ahead and modded the studio to look similar to the TNT studio in real life.
