[Tutorial] Bypass SYNC.BIN files updates from 2K

Hi All,

as some of you may know I won't probably get 2k17 but I found some time to work on this specific topic: bypass SYNC.BIN game updates from 2K.
If we open SYNC.BIN with an Hex editor (Hex Workshop or EditPad Pro to name few) and search for roster.iff you'll see this string repeated many times.....now for us this only means that updated roster or floor or CF are inside this file and when game start it will load them.....bypassing even externel plugin loader by Limnono and default game archives.

The startup sequence for 2k17 is:

Game Archives->Limnono Tool->SYNC.BIN (priority is left to right)

The solution is "cheat" and rename for example roster.iff -> ruster.iff this will allow us to MOD floors & CF even after 2K Updates

Using EDITPAD PRO is really easy to achieve this:



I use EditPad PRO Free version....as you can see "replace" all is very useful to do our Job.........then just save the file. If 2k update this file you'll have to redo the process.....so maybe just put a read-only flag to the file if you like. So to summarize if they update Knicks floor f014.iff just replace this string with f999.iff and you will get Game Archive or modded Knicks court

I personally didn't test this but SeanBarkeley does and reported this method as

I love the game the way it is.. I don't really want a patch to go through. I might do the read only strategy.

Maumau78, I have a question.

If I were to place sync.bin in read only so the game doesn't get the patches. Will that impact my saves or anything else? It shouldn't right.. because the saves are a separate part of Steam.
