Long shot - Possible animation patch?

Postby Dee4Three on Fri Sep 14, 2018 7:32 am

So, I re-installed the 2K14 animation patch that was made a few years ago. They were able to change quite a few things, including the speed of dribbles and spins, speed of first steps, speed of the players in general. They were even able to put shooting forms/other signatures from past 2Ks into 2k14, it was unreal.

This is a long shot, but I didn't know if anybody wanted to take a stab at opening the animations.iff file, and possibly seeing if we could fix some of the faulty player movement issues in the game. Specifically, the skating and change of direction issues.

I BELIEVE that the animations.iff file contains the animations for the game, but last year I couldn't figure out which program would open the files inside it. I couldn't open them with blender or anything.

If we could break into it, we might be able to fix those issues and also increase first step acceleration.

Who knows?

Whoever it was that made that animation patch could also be a HUGE help in getting full player conversions. There seems to be an issue with the skeleton, and the skeleton and animation go hand-in-hand.

Man! Youre making me wanna play 2k14 again. When it comes to mods that game has it all

IIRC that animation patch was released when 2k15 was released already. So i think it is not an easy mod to pull off and it took a lot of hex editing iirc

2K14 had solid gameplay combined with unlimited modding potential, it was and still is awesome.

I've never been able to break into the animations on this gen, but I'm sure it's possible.

I was able to clean up the movement a bit, but I can't do anything about the skating, sliding and floating. That is part of the game engine.

I took a look inside the animations.iff folder. The naming of the files is pretty clear as far as which animations are which, it's just that I can't find a way to open them in Blender. They have this weird extension .SINGLEMOCAP or .MULTIPLEMOCAP, which I couldn't find anything about online.

I'm not sure if this is one of the things we could only do in a hex editor or not.

in 2k14 the animation mod was made by simply hex editing animations and replacing/removing animations

I tried the same thing as Trevor. I was trying to open up the individual animation files in Blender and was unsuccessful.

I've never hex edited, so I don't know how that would work. But, isn't that what they do to make scoreboards? So if so, wouldn't that make it possible to mess with some of the animations as well?

The new free throw routines they gave to Magic and Bird are way off, I'd like to be able to put the animations from 2K17 or 2K18 over those new ones. And, possibly address some of the skating.
