Even on his NBA career alone, you could make a stretch and argue for it, but his time in China solidifies it. He changed the game for foreigners in China, and has his own statue in Beijing. When every American that's gone over there as a means of a paycheck or a launching pad back to the NBA, he really embraced his time there and entrenched himself into the community

I don't think it would be inappropriate. There are players in there whose careers aren't nearly as impressive from an individual standpoint, and taking into account his international career, he turned out to be a good ambassador for the game as well. I don't know about being first ballot, though. More talented and accomplished players than him have had to wait in line, so depending on who else is on the ballot, I'd suggest he might have to wait as well.
