Jackie Kong wrote:Smart is not even a 3 d player. Bowen and Battier were far superior players and never them got paid massive money during their entire careers I think? Would need to check that.
Smart is a capable 3 point shooter, as well as a capable slasher. He's not great at either, but capable. It's the sheer number of attempts right now, and the type of attempts.
Tue May 29, 2018 2:09 pm
Even if you double what Bowen and Battier were making 10 years ago, you still would not get what Smart is asking.
Tue May 29, 2018 2:11 pm
While I definitely don't think Smart is worth big money, it is hard to compare salaries from even five years ago, because the cap and contracts have ballooned so much over the last couple of seasons. $10-15 million is the new $8-10 million.
Tue May 29, 2018 2:16 pm
League inflation would need to be factored in, contracts are just not the same.
I think Smart is worth that between 5-7 million a year (not in reality though, no NBA Player is worth that much per season, it's basketball).
Tue May 29, 2018 2:21 pm
Smart is 3 and D player without 3 capability. Piss poor way below league avg 3pt shooter(.293%), a volume one at that. There is a reason why Wade takes very little 3s and Josh was dicouraged to take 3s.
Tue May 29, 2018 2:24 pm
I would say he is worth full MLE money at most. Wouldn't be surprised if he signs with Kings or Suns for more than that.
Tue May 29, 2018 2:31 pm
What of Rozier? He showed flashes of brilliance and obviously he's at an age where he can still get better, but I think he's played out himself out of a big extension, at least for now. His trade value has likely also taken a hit.

Our starting lineup is set, and deadly. I think Smart and Rozier can both be moved to help solidify our bench depth. I think Rozier value is still high, and I think this is highest value Marcus Smart will have as well.
Tue May 29, 2018 2:38 pm
I think it is almost a lock for Danny to see what he can get for Rozier. That might also affect what they would be willing to pay Smart.
It is true Rozier's value is probably no as high as it was after 76ers's series but it probably will go down even more after Irving and hayward come back.
Tue May 29, 2018 4:39 pm
if smart understood his role he would be really valuable to a team. the problem is he thinks he is steph curry and wants to fire up stupid ass fucking 3's all game long. i honestly wont miss him. as much as i love him on the defensive end i am sick of watching him kill our offensive momentum
Tue May 29, 2018 4:49 pm
I like Rozier. He seems to be an underdog with good attitude whom I can root for anywhere he goes. Obviously though return of Irving will neutralize needs for him. Celtics obviously arent gonna break bank to sign a role player.

I also think it is entirely possible Ainge offers Hayward + Rozier + stuff for Leonard + stuff. Not saying Spurs will accept though. No idea what is going on between Spurs and Leonard.
Do you think people would consider Ainge disloyal if he trades Hayward? I think it helps that Spurs wouldn't be a bad organization for Hayward to play for.

Hayward isn't getting traded, period.

I agree with Big-shot-ROB. Pretty sure Hayward is going to fit in perfectly with what the Celtics want to do, Ainge/Stevens knows that. Honestly, Tatum's amazing play has actually solidified that. Hayward is as unselfish as it gets, he is team first. There won't be any jealousy issues, no "Who should be the star", etc with Hayward on the team.
Not saying Leonard is selfish per say (Although that could be questionable now considering most everybody thinks he could have played more last season and in the postseason), but Leonard has been treated like a first rate star, a step above Hayward. I don't think Leonard would fit in as well with this group as Hayward.
Wed May 30, 2018 11:53 am
there is no way hayward gets traded. his value is too low. no one is offering shit for him until they see he is back playing 100% for a long period of time
Thu May 31, 2018 2:48 am
The same could be said about Leonard though. Don't get me wrong though. I was hyper excited when Hayward was about to announce his decision during off-season.
Would you consider Nerlens Noel as a potential MLE option? If he is willing to take a long term deal, I think they should take the risk. Wouldn't be surprised if Celtics let Smart go and sign someone with the full MLE for the sort of money they were expecting to pay Smart.

I actually love what Nerlens brings on the defensive end, he is more mobile than Baynes. However, would this be assuming the Celtics moved on from Baynes/Theis? I've been having trouble deciding who I would want to keep out of those two. While I like Theis's mobility, his shot blocking, and range... I like the toughness we get with Baynes. Baynes can be used to guard the likes of Embiid, Towns, etc.
Is Nerlans at this point really an upgrade from those two? I think he hasn't hit his ceiling as a player, he has shown flashes what he can do. I also believe he may have been humbled and matured from all of this, realizing that he can be a solid role player on a team (even off the bench), but not be a star.
I've always liked his game, if I feel he can stay healthy I take a flyer. But I question his value over Theis and Baynes...
Thu May 31, 2018 3:31 am
If Celtics go for Noel I imagine it would be to replace Baynes who is also a fa. If Noel is willing to take a cheap long term deal, he would interesting option for next year and beyond. If he wants a 1 year deal, Baynes probably would be a better option.

Makes sense.
I'd like to get someone that will stick with us for a few years, enough to build chemistry and make multiple runs at a title. Other notables on the free agency board in 2018:
Ersan Ilyasova (Unrestrcited)
Kyle O'Quinn (Player option)
Montrezl Harrell (Restricted)
Ed Davis (Unrestricted)

Looks like the Celtics are willing to give up Jaylen Brown for Dallas's #5 pick this year.... but according to reports, the Mavs have already countered by asking for Tatum instead.
https://247sports.com/nba/mavericks/Article/When-Bamba-loving-Celtics-offer-Jaylen-Brown-for-pick-No-5-Mavs-will-have-a-Jayson-Tatum-counter-118643321I honestly don't like this. Brown is only 21, and showed a ton of improvement this season, he has all-star potential. I like the lineup of Irving, Brown, Hayward, Tatum and Horford. I understand what he is going after (Bamba), totally get the upside...
I just don't like the idea of moving a 21 year old with 2 years of great NBA experience, a 21 year old with a lot of talent who hasn't hit his ceiling.
Tue Jun 05, 2018 11:55 am
I certainly wouldn't be giving up Tatum, so that should be a deal killer. Brown might be more feasible, but I'd still be leery of pulling the trigger on that, too.
Thu Jun 07, 2018 1:41 pm
asking for tatum is a nice way of saying no. the celtics are not moving tatum period

Terry Rozier

U doubt me then u pay double

I don't put any stock into this article, but it has some interesting takes. Really, it shows that NOBODY HAS ANY CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON, or what will happen.

LeBron needs Boston more than Boston needs LeBron. And quite frankly, I don't want any of the drama, hostage-taking, back-stabbing, manipulation and social media nonsense that comes along with James. (Sure, I would have swallowed all that in 2014)
Jonathan Tjarks throws out a couple of trade scenarios:
The simplest deal would be trading LeBron for Hayward, Marcus Morris, and a first-round pick. Cleveland, as much as they might hate to trade LeBron within their conference, would have to do it.
…
One trade-machine possibility that Ringer CEO Bill Simmons threw out was sending Kyrie to New York, with the Cavs getting at least two more first-round picks in the deal (no. 9 and no. 27 in this year’s draft) as well as a bunch of expiring contracts (Marcus Morris, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Enes Kanter).

Anyone wondering whether this current Warriors roster is the greatest starting lineup of all-time must not forget about the Celtics lineup of:
JoJo White
Charlie Scott
John Havlicek
Paul Silas
Dave Cowens
A team that Sauru witnessed in his mid 40s.
