nba 2k18 system requirements

Thu Aug 17, 2017 4:45 am

Hi!

It has been 3 years since i last played the game and this year i am thinking about buying the game and start playing again. But my PC is not powerful enough to run it and i need to upgrade the CPU and buy the graphic card(at the moment i am using integrated graphic card). Has the system requirements been released? because i cant find any information about it. My curent PC is:

CPU: i3 4130
iGPU: HD4400
RAM: 24GB
MB: Asus B85M-G

I was thinking about replacing the CPU with i7 4770/4790 and buy GTX 1060 6GB, Do yout think that is a good enough to game at 1440p?

Its for sure more than enough.

No, not enough for 1440 or even 1080 at max settings. Max settings at 1080 could for sure be done with a GTX 1070, though.

He would be perfectly fine. He should be able to max it out no problem at 1080. Look at this guys FPS counter in the top right.

I have the AMD FX 8350 with a AMD RX 480 graphics card (Its what I make my videos with), and I can max it out. I play on a 50 inch tv in 1080p.

Look at my processor compared to his.

Generally speaking as long as you have 4 cores you're fine even at low frequencies (consoles). The i3 could be fine too as it's Haswell 3.4 GHz (but 2 cores / 4 threads). I do not want to guarantee it, but I wouldn't rush into "new" CPU. If anything, I'd buy a Ryzen CPU along with new motherboard and RAM now instead of wasting money on a dead tech (unless you can get one for really cheap).

As far as GPU goes, for 1080p the 6GB version of GTX 1060 should be enough. For 1440p likely not as that is +77% of the pixel count of 1080p.

I can tell you that at 21:9 1440p, which is +128% over 1080p, even 980 Ti struggles to maintain stable 60 fps. Given that GTX 980 Ti roughly equals GTX 1070 in performance, it's the much safer bet at 1440p than GTX 1060.

No official system requirements as yet, but I'm assuming they'll be similar to last year.

Hmm, I stand corrected. When I had a GTX 680 and a 17 3770k, I couldn't max out the game at 60fps.

Thinking of getting 2K18 as my first next gen game on PC. How would my PC hold up?

Processor: AMD FX-4300 Quad-Core Processor @ 3.80 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
GFX: (I'm planning on upgrading my GeForce 730 to the GTX 770)
OS: Windows 10 64-bit

The CPU looks good to me. I would go for a better GPU if possible. I am having performance issues with a GTX 970 FTW from EVGA.

For 2K16 i use:

i5 4460
RX 470 4GB
16RAM

And play in 1080p with all max + AA e AF 4x and run perfect, 60fps. Include 90% of cutcenes

I think 2k18 not be diferent.

I just bought this gaming PC today. I had a gaming laptop but it broke, going with the desktop version:

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXi10180A Desktop Gaming PC (Intel i7-7700 3.6GHz)
NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB,
8GB DDR4 RAM,
1TB 7200RPM HDD,
Win 10

Is this good to go for a desktop?

This would go with my point. If the 970 doesn't work, how does the 1060? Odd.

I just don't think they optimized it for that specific card, for some reason. Mt brother has the 970 in his computer, and it works like garbage on it.

How much did you pay for this? Amazon advertised $950? Usually companies like these make you overpay for mediocre parts with a few highlights.

Actual examples where you could've gone better:
The 1060 3GB version is actually weaker than 6 GB version.
The i7-7700 is not the best choice of CPU at this time for the price.
No SSD. An i7 based PC without an SSD is pretty weird.

From what I could find, it of course uses budget motherboard, probably the cheapest one they could find. Also probably crappy PSU, they have history of doing that.

Glad to see other people are having problems with it. I was starting to believe my CPU was the issue - an intel i5 3450 @3.1 GHZ that can go up to 3.4ghz. But the CPU should handle it without a problem IMO. Even the NVIDIA inspector and different system req websites believe I should run the game maxed out.

Yeah, it's just some of the NVIDIA cards.

I've played it with multiple AMD cards, and it seems the game was optimized for all of the AMD cards. I also don't see anybody posting about AMD issues with 2k.

Well your CPU is pretty terrible and DO NOT upgrade to a 770. A 770 was a decent card ...like 5 Years ago. Try to get a 1060 or 1050 Ti. Or even better try to find a cheap used 970 or 980. Dont even bother with AMD Cards since they are all bought up by Miners (anything from 290-580).

We can only hope 2K runs better next Year. I have a 980 and 2K16 ran rocksolid at 144FPS during Gameplay while in 2K17 I barely can get 70FPS no matter what Details I use. I tried everything even all on Low, I can't get 144FPS - even though the Game does not fucking look any better.

Wait, what about AMD cards? My games run flawlessly with them. I literally have no issues with them at all.

Whether it was the R9 280x, or the RX 480. NVIDIA had the issues with optimization for NBA 2K17. NBA 2K17 runs flawlessly with my current AMD setup.

So if I get the 1050 Ti and upgrade the processor to an FX-8370E (within my motherboard's 95w limit), I should be good to go then?

I wouldn't waste more money on that route unless you can get one for really, really cheap.

The AM3+ is dead. New CPUs are incompatible. DDR4 is incompatible. The performance of the old CPUs is terrible for today's standards.
The FX-8370E itself is 3 years old and gets beaten by 7 years old CPUs.

My advice as someone who builds PCs for a long time for myself and recommends builds for friends: Do not waste money on dead tech. If you can get that FX-8370E for a few dollars (or your local equivalent), then it might be worth consideration. Otherwise it's just putting off the upgrade that PC needs.

A solid choice would be something like this:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen CPUs now hold best value and very solid performance. The Ryzen 5 1500X would be an excellent choice - 4 cores, 8 threads, 180 USD. The 1600X would be even better with 6 cores and 12 threads for 230 USD.
  • Motherboard: Generally speaking, the boards that are worth considering start at $80.
  • RAM: You'd need DDR4 module(s). Roughly 70 USD for 8 GB, 130 USD for 16 GB.
Let's say we go with the cheaper route (1500X, 8 GB RAM)... that's roughly 330 USD.

Now I don't know how much do you know about CPUs, because this might seem counter-intuitive. Why would I recommend 4 core CPU (with 3.5 GHz base clock) instead of 8 core CPU (with 3.3 GHz base clock)?
It's simple, the 1500X can do much more work done at same frequency than the FX-8370E. They're using different architectures.
The core count doesn't always save it (especially in gaming), not to mention that the FX-8370E has only 4 cores for certain types of calculations (though largely irrelevant for gaming).

Of course the PC would probably benefit from other stuff, although at that point PSU is most important (unless you have a high quality one already), GPU was already mentioned and you can get an SSD any time.
