are the overall ratings curved? -i don't get it.plz help

cuzz i'm using excel and doing my own CAPs, but my averages are hard averages and when i look at the game's overall rating for players their a lot higher.... how come?

is it a function? looks like it's a curve... if so, plz hook me up

Various ratings are weighted differently depending on the player's position, so point guards who have excellent ballhandling abilities but lower blocking and rebounding ratings will not suffer too much when their overall rating is calculated.

do u know the formulas they use? i think i can come up with some decent formulas but i want to be as accurate as possible.

I'm afraid I don't know the exact formula - I always allow the game to recalculate the overall rating when I make modifications. Sorry I can't be of any more help in that area.
