LaMarcus Aldridge Trade Rumours

Postby Andrew on Thu Oct 20, 2016 10:22 am

A few rumours are starting to circulate about the Spurs looking to trade LaMarcus Aldridge: Spurs considering trading LaMarcus Aldridge? There's smoke, but is there fire?

So there's something up with LaMarcus Aldridge. Earlier this week, ESPN's Zach Lowe predicted the Spurs will "explore" trade talks this season, suggesting that Aldridge is not 100 percent off the board. It didn't get much traction, because it wasn't a solid "the Spurs are looking to deal Aldridge" and it didn't reflect any thinking on the part of the Spurs. Lowe's basic assessment was "the Spurs are too smart not to consider trading him."

That alone, like I said, didn't make many waves. Then the venerable Jackie MacMullan, of ESPN and CSN New England, had some things to say this week on the subject. It was in the course of a conversation, but her comments were ... provocative.

MacMullan goes on to say in the clip she would not trade for Aldridge if she ran the Celtics, as there is "some stuff going on." She doesn't explain what she means by that, and so it's easy to kind of pass off her comments as hearsay and innuendo. But it's important to remember that MacMullan is a Curt Gowdy Award Winner from the Naismith Hall of Fame and one of the most respected long-time reporters of the league. Combine that with Lowe's previous comments, and you can definitely say there's smoke.

Meanwhile, the Spurs themselves have denied the rumours, though the suggestion is they might reconsider their position if they find themselves out of title contention.

I personally have my doubts, since it does seem like the rumours are stemming from speculation as to what they might do if it somehow all falls apart in un-Spurs-like fashion. At the same time, Jackie MacMullan is not - as I've seen people suggest elsewhere - some unknown beat writer with no credibility trying to make a name for herself, so it's hard to dismiss the rumours completely out of hand. The references to "some stuff going on" certainly makes me wonder what it is she's talking about, what it is that she's heard.

SMH this dude has issues. Jealousy of Brandon Roy, Damian Lillard, and now kawhi Leonard. If he wants to be the man, sign with the 76ers

I agree, something is not right with this guy. He wants to be the man, but as "THE MAN" he will never make it far. His skillset (though solid) is not enough to be the cornerstone of a franchise and win a title. He should settle into a role like David West did in Indiana years back.

In fact, right now hes the same age (31) as David West was in his first season with the Pacers.

The weird thing is, he had a pretty good season last year, and is still one of the top guys on the team. He has it pretty good, but if being "The Man" was his priority, then joining the Spurs in the first place was obviously a bad idea.

Aldridge, I dunno why but he reminds me of Chris Webber. I think Cweb was better but both seem to lack something that put them over top.

He was one knee injury away from leading the Kings to a title. He was very effective as the best player on a talented team while LMA doesn't seem to have it. Guys like him, Melo, Harden, don't seem to get very far despite being on good teams.

Without bringing up stats, Webber was a much more complete player than Aldridge. He had a bigger impact on the defensive end, was a better passer, and had more moves offensively. So many times I would see Webber beat his guy with a first step and throw a jam down hard, Aldridge was never that quick with his first step. I also felt Webber was better at going both right AND left, attacking both sides of the rim and shooting on both sides.

Aldridge has always had such a respectable post fade, post step back, half hook. But to me, he has never been a guy that could carry a team on both ends of the floor, and never been a guy that can beat you with his passing.

Doesn't make sense to be honest. Why sign Gasol if they want to rebuild? This came from Lowe's hypothetical scenario and it seems to have gone from there. I could be wrong obviously, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

They are still trying to make a run this year, Gasol actually had an amazing season last year (His numbers rivaled 08-09 and 09-10). He has a lot left in the tank, and its not like Leonard went downhill...

I think Lamarcus has a superiority complex, and needs more attention. It might just not be a good fit.

How the hell do you people have come to this nonsensical conclusion so fast is just beyond my understanding.

There's no news he's unhappy with the Spurs. He had a successful first season with the Spurs as per the article. I like how people are suddenly hating this guy when he has done absolutely nothing wrong except being a mediocre superstar. Yet KG is KG, Kobe is Kobe, they always been dicks so don't hate em. Logical fallacy anyone?

I said I THINK. I don't know the ins and outs of it. Calm down. I believe that he has a problem with not being the man, I didn't say that as a fact.
