Where is a good place to regularly discuss key games of the upcoming week?

Where is last year's topic with daily nba discussion again ?

We're trying to move away from a relying too much on central, catch-all discussion threads, as they tend to stifle discussion and put off newcomers who feel "late to the party". Daily or even weekly threads would be a preferable alternative.

I kinda liked those threads because I felt I could just throw out random bits that caught my attention. Like the one night I think Kawhi was a steal short of a nice 5x5, was going to mention it, but felt awkward to make an entire thread just about that.

Perhaps, it's good time to discuss and so some of us can make changes in posting habits and also to promote and not put off new comers.

As much as I appreciate the plan to improve things around here, I also feel semi-frustrated due to following reasons.

1) lack of threads to say minor things as airberlin suggested
2) mainly because it takes more effort now as creating thread takes bit more effort
3) and some things that i want to say isn't threat worthy but could lead to a good discussion

Daily or even weekly threads would be a preferable alternative.

I actually meant to PM you about that. Making daily thread was kinda hassle so I wanted to ask your opinion about semi centralized weekly thread instead of daily I seldom have been creating.

As a newcomer a few years back, I never hesitated to post in centralized threads the first time. As long as I know what I am talking about, there shouldn't be any hesitation

Technically speaking, anything anyone wants to talk about is thread-worthy. Whether it's a topic with the potential to go pages and pages, or a simple "Wow, did you see what just happened?" post that only a few people may respond to before it drops down the archives, there's no harm in creating a thread. It's not like we need to ration them, after all. Also, creating a new thread to talk about something that interests you isn't that much more effort than replying to an existing thread; about the only extra step is adding your own title, which doesn't take that long.

As I said in the previous discussion though, I do understand people are reluctant to make threads (whether they should be or not), and that there is a use for central, catch-all threads. The thing is, the past couple of years, it's consolidated a majority of the discussion for the season into one thread. That means we've got a whole section to discuss the real NBA and other basketball leagues, separate from our video game sections, that's kind of going to waste if all the discussion is in one thread. If we're going to do that, we might as well further consolidate our off-topic sections into one, and I'd prefer not to do that.

It may be that we've gone from one extreme to the other though, which is demanding that everyone change their habits immediately, and not making use of a concept that does suit a purpose. So I would suggest that we do try weekly discussion threads, while encouraging offshoots and other topics.

Well, not always. I certainly make mistakes, and over-corrections, and from there it's a matter of finding the right balance. To that end though, I think the next step is giving weekly threads a try.
