Some notes before I start writing for you guys:
  • I'm quite new to the NBA thing, I played a lot NHL before but now I saw NBA Live '04 with a discount price, so I decided to buy it. But my NBA knownledge is like 0,0 so don't blame me if I make a stupid mistake
  • I'll write my "stories" like they are (newspaper)articles. I do that with a NHL 2004 also at another forum and I quite like to write about the games and things I do in that style..
  • My English isn't 100% perfect since I live in The Netherlands, but I'll still do my best trying ;)
  • Another, quite important, thing. I play NBA Live '04 at my XBOX, so I won't be able to make in-game screenshots :( So I'll be using real photo's for my posts.

I guess that are the things I wanted to say before I start with my dynasty :)

Pistons start season with new GM
November 29th, 2003

Image

DETROIT, Michigan - The decision has been made, the Detroit Pistons have signed a new General Manager for season 2003/2004, with the new GM they hope to win the cup this year.

Newly assigned GM for the Detroit Pistons will be Vincent Kooijman, coming fresh from his club in The Netherlands. Today we will be having a little chat with him about his thoughts, expectations and goals for the new 2003/2004 season.

Detroit Times: Hi Vincent, welcome to Detroit and thanks for giving us this interview. Why did you decided to be the new General Manager for the Detroit Pistons? It's far from home.

Vincent: Thank you too. Well, a couple of months ago the staff of the Pistons contacted me when I still lived in The Netherlands. I was quite suprised that they contacted me since I lived on the other side of the world, but still I was interested. We had some meetings and we came to an agreement about me as their new GM. I'm just really happy I have the opportunity to lead this beautiful team to the cup.

Detroit Times: It's quite a time ago the Pistons won the cup, are you confident that you have a chance to win the title this year?

Vincent: Yes, it's quite a time ago, but we have a very strong team for the upcoming season and I'm confident that we actually make a chance of winning the title this year. Ofcourse we will do the best we can, more we can't do.

Detroit Times: What are your plans for the upcoming season, any spectacular things coming up?

Vincent: Well we just start the season nice and quiet. There aren't really spectacular things coming up except that we are going to announce the new starting roster really soon, some people are really looking forward to that.

Detroit Times: When are you going to announce the new roster? Will it be real soon or do you wait untill the training camp will be over?

Vincent: The coach and assistants and I already made up our mind about what we thing will be the best roster for the new season. But we haven't seen the player play yet, so yes I'm waiting untill the training camp will be over. At the training camp we will be judging all the players about their form and prestations there, so we don't have the final roster yet.

Detroit Times: Well it looks like their's and exciting season coming up, I want to thank you for this interview and wish you all the luck of the world this seasons. Bring that title home!

Vincent: (laughs) No problem and thank you. As said, we will to the best we can. Hopefully we will bring that title home again.

That sounds like there is a promising season coming up. The training camp of the Detroit Pistons will start next week, ofcourse we will be there and bring the latest news to you. Let's pray the Pistons will bring the NBA title home again!

The first game for the Pistons will be on the 29th of October in Detroit. The Indiana Pacers will be visiting us. With home advantage it shouldn't be difficult to win the first game of the season.

Pistons announce 2003/2004 roster
October 19th, 2003

Image

DETROIT, Michingan - The Pistons just finished their training camp for the upcoming NBA season and now they announced the roster they will be using. We are going to take a look at the players.

As promised, the Detroit Pistons announced their new roster yesterday just after the training camp finished. Today we will be looking at the players they selected for the starting five and their players on the bench. Also we will discuss the upcoming first game of the season, Pistons against the Pacers which will be played on the 29h of October here in Detroit.

Ofcourse we will start with a look at the starting five for season 2003/2004. The Pistons announced the next starting five:

C: B. Wallace (Overall rating: 75)
PF: D. Milicic (Overall rating: 62)
SF: C. Williamson (Overall rating: 61)
SG: R. Hamilton (Overall rating: 67)
PG: C. Billups (Overall rating: 67)

The first in the row, Wallace, will be playing his fourth season for the Detroit Pistons as the center player. He came to the Detroit Pistons in 2000 from the Orlando Magic together with Chucky Atkins. Wallace scored a total of 506 points and made 120 assists last season. Behind Wallace we see Milicic as a power forward. Milicic was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the fist round (second overall) in the 2003 NBA draft. Milicic is coming from Serbia-Montengro. After the season we will take a look back at him how he played. As small forward we see Williamson. Williamson is playing his fifth season for the Detroit Pistons. He got traded together with Kornel David and a first-round draft pick by the Detroit Pistons in 2001 from the Toronto Raptors. Last season Williamson scored a total of 987 points and made 104 assists. Quite a valuable player for the Pistons. Behind Williamson we find Hamilton as shooting guard. Hamilton will be playing his second season for the Detroit Pistons. He got traded by the Washington Wizards to the Detroit Pistons along with Hubert Davis and Bobby Simmons in 2002. Hamilton scored a massive total of 1612 points last season for the Pistons and made 208 assists. What can we expect from him this season? We'll see soon enough. And the last one in the row, as a point guard, we see Billups. Not a new name in basketball history since he is already playing since 1997 but only playing his second season for Detroit. In 2002 he got signed by the Pistons as a free agent. Last season he scored a total of 1199 points and made 287 assists. Another great player in the line-up from the Pistons. What can we expect from this guys this seasons? We will find out soon enough.

Now let's take a look at the players Detroit placed on the bench.

C: E. Campbell (Overall rating: 63)
C: Z. Rebraca (Overall rating: 49)
PF: M. Okur (Overall rating: 58)
SF: T. Prince (Overall rating: 51)
SG: B. Sura (Overall rating: 62)
PG: C. Atkins (Overall rating: 53)
PG: L. Hunter (Overall rating: 59)

Quite some experience on the bench. Campbell maybe the most experienced one, already playing since 1990 and now his first season for the Detroit Pistons. Rebraca is playing in the NBA since 2001, and will now be playing his third season for the Detroit Pistons. Okur was trated by the Detroit Pistons in 2001 in the NBA Draft. In 2002 he signed with the Pistons. He'll be playing his second season for the Pistons. After Okur we see Prince, another player without much experience. He will be playing his second season for Detroit after he was selected by them in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft. Then we see Sura, another player with quite some experience. Playing since 1995 he will be playing his first season for the Pistons. Last season he weared the shirt of the Golden State Warriors, what can we expect from him this season? We hope some nice things. After Sura we spot Atkins. Another player with quite some experience, he is playing in the NBA since 1999 when he played for Orlando. Now he will be playing his fifth season for Detroit. Last season he scored a total of 462 points and made 175 assists. Last one on the bench will be Hunter. Hunter's also a player with a lot of experience. Playing in the NBA since 1993 for the Pistons in a total of seven seasons he went to Milwaukee, LA and Toronto. But now he is returning to Detroit for his eleventh season in the NBA. Last year in Toronto he scored a total of 280 points and made 71 assists.

As you can see, the Detroit Pistons have a lot of experienced players in their team along with some rookies. But we are confident they have a strong team which is quite important, and they really make a chance to win this years NBA title.

After the players we will be now take a look at the first game of this years season. The Detroit Pistons against the Indiana Pacers. The game get's hosted by the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons and Pacers faced eachother three times in the regular season which resulted in one win and two losses for Detroit. In the Conference Finals the Pistons and Pacers played a total of six games which resulted in four wins and two losses for Detroit. Detroit won a total five times and lost three times last season. It shouldn't be difficult for Detroit to win since they have a very powerfull line-up.

The game Indiana @ Detroit will be played at the 29th of October, starting at 8:00 PM in The Palace of Aburn Hills at Aburn Hill.

Pistons open season with victory
October 29th, 2003

Image

DETROIT, Michigan - Today finally the day came were every Pistons fan was waiting for, the first match of the season. The Pistons faced the Indiana Pacers at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Last time the Pistons saw the Pacers at home was June 1st in the Conference Finals (which they won 4-2). Now, almost 4 months later they see eachother again in the first game of the 2003/2004 NBA Season.

The Detroit Pistons started the game with the starting five they announced last week:

C: B. Wallace (Overall rating: 75)
PF: D. Milicic (Overall rating: 62)
SF: C. Wiliamson (Overall rating: 61)
SG: R. Hamilton (Overall rating: 67)
PG: C. Billups (Overall rating: 67)
(Average overall rating: 66)

The Indiana Pacers started the game with the following five:

C: S. Pollard (Overall rating: 58)
PF: J. O'Neal (Overall rating: 85)
SG: R. Artest (Overall rating: 71)
SG: R. Miller (Overall rating: 61)
PG: J. Tinsley (Overall rating: 64)
(Average overall rating: 67)

The Pacers were the first to score, after a personal foul of Billups they got two free throw's and they scored them both. Giving them the lead. Same minute Detroit already came back and both teams played a very strong first quarter. But when half the quarter was played the Pistons took a big lead and the Pacers coach decided to take a time-out with 4:36 left on the clock. But the Pistons didn't allow much goals unlike the Pacers. The Pistons managed to end the first quarter with a 19 goal lead. Final score for the first quarter, Pacers 32 - 51 Pistons.

With loads of confident the Pistons started the second quarter. Quite the same scenario as in the first quarter, lot's of goals and still a big lead for the Pistons. Wallace and Billups made quite some nice three-pointers just like O'Neal did for the Pacers. But the Pacers didn't managed to make the Pistons lead any smaller. Final score for the second quarter, Pacers 59 - 96 Pistons.

With their heads down the Pacers started the third quarter. No changes here eather, except for a time-out the Pacers' coach took quite soon. After only three minutes of play he decided to get his players to the bench and talk a little with them. But also this time-out didn't pay off really, the Pistons still were able to hold their big lead and so the third quarter finished. No big suprise, the final score for the third quarter, Pacers 94 - 126 Pistons.

The fourth and final quarter started, no need for the Pistons to play hard. Just good defensive play should help them keep their lead. And it did, with good defense play they also won this quarter. Even with a bigger lead then the other quarters. The Pacers really lost this one. Final score for this game, Pacers 125 - 167 Pistons.

Big suprise or not? We doubt it. Both the Pistons and the Pacers played strong, but only one team can win. This time it were the Pistons with a massive 42 goal lead, which no team could make up with. The game was already won by the Pistons after the third quarter with their 32 goal lead and they had an easy fourth quarter.

The next opponent the Pistons will face are the Miami Heat. The Heat already played two games this season with one win and one lost, it will be an exciting game. The game get's hosted by the Heat in the American Airlines Center on October 31th.

Great start, I like the way you do the newspaper articles. I kinda know how it feels because I started playing NHL: Eastside Hockey Manager even though I knew absolutely nothing about it. Just one thing though, instead of goals try using baskets or points (Y)

NHL Eastside Manager is cool :) And will think about it next article :)

Does anyone know good sliders for Starter? Cuz I tried Andrew's sliders and All-Star but that's a little to difficult :)

But 126 - 167 is a little unrealistic score :P
