I especially liked the part where Shane said Metallica's style isn't anything new ;) It isn't now. But it sure as hell was revolutionary in the early 80s. It isn't now, because of Metallica.

Metallica are an exteremly overrated power chord overusing trash metal pioneer with extremely shitty lyrics and corny solos.

They do have a few very good songs, yet those are very selected (One, Nothing Else Matters, ...and Justice for all, and The Unforgiven)...

Other "Hits" such as "enter sandman" are just simply trash. The songs are entirely pointless. The whole new album itself is shit uppon shit. Metallica has great guitar skills, they should use them like they did back in the Black album and in Ride the Lightning.

That's interesting Pavel, I thought we were all wasting our lives on here?

I was watching the US - Lut game, and I felt nostalgic, so I thought that I should give the forum a couple of utterly cynical posts...

Metallica's lyrics are on a vastly higher level than many other bands. "power chord overusing" if that's your opinion, can't change anything about that, that's just the thrash metal style. If you don't like a genre doesn't mean a band can be great in that discipline.

Funny how you can only name "famous" songs.

Metallica and Ride The Lightning are entirely different styles, how should they go back to both? And I thought that was shitty?

Please come back when you know something about this subject ;)

I only mentioned famous songs because ,logically, those are the only songs that certain user is aware of.

The lyrics are rather pointless, in practicly every famous song other than the ones that I mentioned. Ofcourse, it is not something as shitty as "Iron Maiden", yet it's also rather contentless, for me, at least... It depends on the level of intellegence you expect of your lyrics.

Yes, the two albums are different, and those two styles are the only styles that have ever worked for them.

Mon Aug 23, 2004 1:35 pm

You all know who is the coolest for me...

Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:37 pm

Or they are songs you are aware of.

Lyrics pointless... examples please, examples. You know my English teacher used to use Metallica lyrics as example for poetry? Oh and dissing Metallica and Iron Maiden in one thread makes you look even worse, any fan of metal music would acknowledge that both bands are great.

Really, if you don't like metal, sure go ahead, but trying to be different and saying a band whose influence on a genre is unparallelled sucks, really doesn't make you look any smarter.

Good Metal:

Dream Theatre, Liquid Tension Experiment, The Gathering, Bruce Dickinson, Pantera, Sepultura, AC/ DC, Shadow Gallery, etc...

Pointless lyrics?

I Desappear, Enter Sandman, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ain't My Bitch, Seek and Destroy, Overkill, Wasting My Hate, etc.

Iron Maiden have the worst lyrics in the influjencial metal genre... All the Best Of The Beast album is shitty lyrics wise. They have great guitar (So do Metallica...amazing), yet the guitar does not soley make a song.

Tue Aug 24, 2004 7:26 am

lmao... Iron Maiden has pointless lyrics while Bruce Dickinson doesn't... you do know Dickinson has been very much influenced by Steve Harris do you? Mostly because they have been in the same band for what almost 20 years with a break in between?

I don't consider The Gathering metal anymore, they're a good band though. And I like most of the bands in your list, I just don't think they're at the level Metallica is at (or has been at, depends on how you look at it).

Overkill wasn't written by Metallica... Seek & Destroy indeed has kinda pointles lyrics, it's mostly a song about someone wanting to start an unfounded fight, the way it happened in LA in those days, written by an 18 year old.
For whom the bell tolls... pointless lyrics.. only they are based on a Hemingway novel you probably don't even know (also called FWTBT by the way) it's about soldiers getting in position on a hill, and then getting killed.

I'm not going to go over all those songs, you just picked some examples which indeed don't have the best lyrics in the world.
I suggest you read the lyrics of, for example, Fade To Black, Master of Puppets, Disposable Heroes, Leper Messiah, Eye of the beholder, One, The unforgiven, Ronnie (which is about a high school shooting). That's out the top of my head more than you could list with less than poetic lyrics (probably out the top of your head also).

Bruce Dickinson only started writing good lyrics after he took on a solo career. Look at "Balls for Picasso".

I read the Hemingway Novel, and the lyrics do not do it justice. Master of Puppets still does not have the best lyrics, I will give you the others, true, yet compared to their song mass, it's a low percentage of good lyrics. Most lyrics are simple and touch a wide range of audience. I truly cannot connect to them.

We clearly have a different interpertation of "poetry".

I like all of them except White Zombie.
Truth is though, that there has been nothing new for many years now, I mean no new band that rocks like them...and honestly I need something new caz I'm bored (i get booooooored...I get boooooored......I'm bored) ehm...a little deftonite.....

So, any suggestion? Since it looks like we like the same music....

System of a Down is a great band not mentioned in this that quote so you might like to check them out if you haven't already word is a new album is on the way late this year or early next. But for now they have 3 great albums out.

Thu Aug 26, 2004 5:56 pm

Oh yeah, how come we forgot to mention the system!!
I know they're great, I have all the 3 albums.
Good news the 4th is coming...I didn't know that. Thanks.
