I recently noticed that 3D spectators are modelized much like the Live 97 players ... So maybe we could define that rule:
In NBA Live series, the spectators are modelised like the players seven years ago
Now imagine what the audience will look like in NBA Live 2012
do you think of similar rules?

Yeah. The cameramen too. I would have thought they would have at least made it look somewhat realistic.

I'd say the crowd models and animations will be greatly improved before then, though people would complain if the crowd was the most visually impressive part of the game.
