The Dallas Mavericks have opened up discussions on a potential deal with JaVale McGee, league sources tell RealGM.
McGee was traded by the Denver Nuggets to the Philadelphia 76ers at the deadline and was subsequently bought out.
DeAndre Jordan backed out of a deal with the Mavericks last week.

He's still being paid by the 76ers. So money wouldn't (or shouldn't lol) be a problem.

low basketball IQ, but tremendous athleticism. The Mavs might have saved themselves a boatload of money for practically the same level of talent. This pick-up should be nice to see.

Great athleticism, some legitimate talent, in desperate need of being reigned in and properly developed, if indeed that's still possible. Jordan's the better player, but as long as they're not giving McGee the same kind of money they were offering him, he could be a decent pick-up. He's still worth someone taking a gamble on; with Jordan out of the picture, I guess that someone will be the Mavs.

Still not sure if we can say that he has a low basketball IQ. Probably just a guy who has problems finishing at the rim and at the same time, has a face that looks like he doesn't know what he's doing.
Rest In Peace Kobe

Call it low basketball IQ, call it trying to do too much, call it being overconfident in his abilities...call it a belief in abilities that he doesn't actually have (such as the handles of an elite point guard), or perhaps call it a bit of residual immaturity. Whatever you want to call it, I think there needs to be some smartening up in his game.

I don't mind McGee in small doses like a 20 minute a game off the bench type of player.
You would think that we would be a little more humbled after the year or two he has had and try to control himself more on court.
It's low risk high reward anyway.

I really had high hopes for this guy when he got traded to the Nuggets back then.
